On a clear evening enriched with sea-air at Southchurch Park, Southend Manor took on Stansted in another ESL encounter. Looking at the team-sheet, Stansted could only name two substitutes on their bench, possibly due to injuries. Manor, on the other hand gave starts to new signings Aundre Spencer, Vinny Murphy & loan signing Tony Stokes.

Both sides started the match a little tentatively, with Manor getting the first chance of the match, forward Michael Hopkins heading wide from a good free-kick by Murphy.

Manor also lost full-back Lee Rome early-on to what seemed like a hamstring injury, to his credit Rome was gutted to have to come off.

Stansted winger Tom Lakin tried to get his side going, going wide and coming into the centre of the pitch to get the ball to try to instigate attacks. Stansted striker Jack Isherwood also sent a drilled effort over the bar.

As the half came toward its conclusion, Manor winger Charlie Gleisinger had a couple of efforts, firstly a good strike on goal which had to be turned wide by visiting goalkeeper Rajan Shergill then shortly after he drilled a shot wide.

Half-Time: Southend Manor 0 – 0 Stansted

After a first half of relatively few chances, Manor had a goal ruled out soon after the restart, Stokes ruled to be offside denying him a tap-in.

Manor didn’t let that dissuade them though as full-back Michael Bottone made a few lung-busting runs down the right flank in support of his side’s attacks.

Stansted at this point, were finding it difficult to conjure up attacks themselves, save for substitute Jack Hayes making a good run down their right flank.

However, it was Manor who continued their pressure in the main, Vinny Murphy scoring direct from a well-taken free-kick, beating Stansted ‘keeper Shergill at his near post.

Stansted had a couple of chances to level, though couldn’t find a way past home ‘Keeper Ryan Karrer and didn’t really carry enough of a threat going forward throughout the match.

Full-Time:  Southend Manor 1 – 0 Stansted

                            Vinny Murphy 72’

‘Manor edged a scrappy affair at times and could’ve scored more though they did enough to earn the three points this evening.

This blog is centred on all things Non-League Football, mainly Match Reports of matches I've seen (mainly Essex Senior League (ESL) but also other Leagues) though it also houses the regular round-up's of the ESL action plus the Essex Olympian League divisions regularly. It also has the odd post about the scary world that we're all in, talking from a Mental Health perspective. Thank you for reading.
