Hello & welcome to the another edition of the Essex Olympian League round-up. This week, we look at the action in all divisions & Cups from Saturday 21 January, as the weekend’s action was again reduced because of the frosty weather.

EOFL Premier Division & Division Three action was postponed this week.

EOFL Divisions One and Two

Division One only saw one match as Harold Wood Athletic got a important 5 – 0 victory over bottom side Wakering Sports. James Pottle netted twice here for John Field’s team, with Zach Holding, Perry Robinson & Louis Bazely’s spot-kick accounting for the other goals. The win takes Ath seven points clear at the top, with Corinthians the most likely rivals once they have played the four games they have in hand on Ath.

Into Division Two now and the only match here saw May & Baker draw 2 – 2 with Harold Wood Athletic Res at home. Matthew Harris & replacement Josh Portway netted for the visitors but they lost the chance to go back up to third here.

EOFL Divisions Four & Five

It’s straight into Division Four now, and Herongate Athletic Res are three points clear in third after a narrow 1 – 0 victory over Leigh Ramblers Res. John Hanrahan’s penalty proved decisive as Ath retained their chances of overhauling second-placed Collier Row, given they have three extra games to play, compared to Row. Bishop’s Stortford Swifts Res rose to fourth after a conclusive 4 – 0 triumph at strugglers Leytonstone Utd. The cast of Archie Gerard, Henry Harnack, Matthew Allen & Jordan Trott were all on target for Swifts there. Finally in this division, Shenfield AFC Res defeated Wakering Sports A 4 – 0 at St Martin’s 3G. Mason Everitt, Kyle Constable, Lewis Dalley & Alec Roeper all scored to fortify AFC’s sixth place.

In Division Five, Collier Row Res are up to second after a 2 – 1 win at Sungate Res, with Raheem Bravo and Nicholas George the scorers for Row there. In the other match, Runwell Sports Res are five points clear in fourth after a 2 – 0 success at Wakebury Res. Harry Ford and Daniel Hobbs scored for Sports as they secured their sixth win this term.

Cups

Starting the Cup round-up with the Essex Premier Cup Quarter-Finals, and Wakering Sports Res‘ dream run continues after a superb 5 – 1 victory over Toby at Cupid’s. Connor Fardyga once again contributed hugely in big games with a hat-trick here, and Eben Rowledge & Charlie Smith also scoring. Jamie Simpkins replied for Toby but they bowed out – their focus is now on EOFL Premier survival. Rayleigh Town renewed their rivalry with Catholic Utd and Town prevailed 3 – 2 at Len Forge 3G. Harry Talbot scored twice for Paul Higgins’ side here, with Jack Long also scoring. Joe O’Kane had earlier given Utd the lead, and Aaron Baldwin netted a late second but they exited the Premier Cup.

Elsewhere, Shenfield AFC were made to battle hard for a 2 – 1 win at EOFL Division One side Corinthians. John Bolton-Smith’s spot-kick gave the hosts the lead but Ben Carroll & Elliott Thompson strikes turned the tide and saw AFC progress to the last four. Also, in the match I attended this week, Woodford East produced a superb comeback to defeat Hutton 4 – 2 at Mabley Green 3G. The Reds led by two goals at the break, through Lewis Scott & David Johnson. But a roaring response by East saw strikes by Harry Robinson, Matt Stacey, Billy Barr & Ben Smith saw the Essex Alliance side prevail. If you’d like more on this game, my report is here: https://survivor16b.wordpress.com/2023/01/21/s22-23-match-report-woodford-east-4-2-hutton-sat-21-jan-epcqf/

Now into the EOFL Senior Cup games, Old Southendian progressed with a 4 – 1 success over Leigh Ramblers at Belfairs Park. Mattias Tonking netted two goals for Altan Ali’s team, while Mitchell Ali & Connor Burrows strikes secured a fine win. Canning Town also went through as they won another penalty shoot-out 5 – 4 after a 1 – 1 stalemate at Runwell Sports. Oliver Williamson netted for Runwell there.

The solitary Reserve Cup match this weekend saw Galleywood Res go through after a 3 – 1 victory at Shoebury Town Res. Alfie Hooper’s fine treble secured a good win for the visitors at the Ekco Sports Club.

Lastly this week, in the EOFL Denny King Cup, Epping Town had a Conor Corrigan goal to thank for a 1 – 0 win at home to Chingford Athletic Res. Shoebury Town also went through after a 4 – 1 win at home to Buckhurst Hill U23. Mechack-Kisoka Asuka scored another two goals here, with Aaron Marshall & an OG accounting for the other goals.

Hello and welcome to this week’s extended round-up of the action in the Essex Olympian League this week, including the midweek action on 12 & 13 April and the action on Saturday 16 April. The focus this week is on the League action and the additional sections on Divisions Four & Five remain in place with their campaigns coming to a conclusion. Thank you for reading.

Essex Olympian Lge – Midweek (12/13 April)

This week we begin with the start of the Midweek EOFL action, in the Premier Division Springfield won their big battle at Leigh Ramblers 2 – 0. Two spot-kicks from Joe Kiff was enough to win a scrappy game and increased the pressure on the Rams as they seek to avoid a bottom two finish. In Division Four, Galleywood Res were held 2 – 2 by Old Chelmsfordians Res at Slades Lane. Oliver Sadler and Bradley Taylor scored for ‘Wood in that one, though goals from Lee Mulholland and Shane Pritchard levelled things up for the visitors.

On Wednesday night, Sungate maintained the EOFL’s recent stranglehold on the Essex Premier Cup after grabbing a 2 – 0 victory over Essex Alliance League Senior Division side Woodford East in the Final at New Lodge 3G, with nearly 450 spectators in attendance. George Johnson and substitute Arif Mustapha got the telling goals as Bobby Port’s side claimed the silverware. I was at this match & my report is here: https://survivor16b.wordpress.com/2022/04/14/s21-22-match-report-woodford-east-0-2-sungate-epc-final-wed-13-apr/

EOFL – Saturday 16 April

Premier Division, Divisions One & Two

In the Premier Division on Saturday, Basildon Town continued their progress towards the summit with a 3 – 0 victory over Old Southendian. Graham Harrison netted twice for Marcus Bowers’ side here, with Michael Onafuye also on target. Bas have kept the gap to leaders Ongar to one point, but still with one game in hand. Ongar Town themselves stayed top after a fine 5 – 0 success away at Canning Town. Jack Zielinski got two goals for Richard Ponsford’s team there, with Mitchell McCabe, Fred Mattock and Frank Goodall getting the other goals. The crucial game comes in midweek for Basildon Town, if they win that then they will go top.

Elsewhere, Leigh Ramblers drew 2 – 2 with rivals Galleywood at Slades Lane. Nathan Drewberry netted another fine double for Mark Hunter’s team, but strikes by Thomas Watling and Sean Barry really made it a better result for ‘Wood, who have five matches in hand on the Rams to claw back five points. The Rams have one match left to  increase the lead over Canning Town in second-bottom, it currently stands at nine points – but Canning have four matches currently in hand on the Rams so that battle will rumble on.

Also, Catholic Utd were held 2 – 2 by Sungate, only three days after their EPC success mentioned earlier. Harrison Day & Michael Sammut got the goals for Utd in that one to stay a point clear of ‘Gate in sixth. Finally, Kelvedon Hatch were held by Bishop’s Stortford Swifts 1 – 1 at New Hall. Wayne Semanshia netted for Kelvedon there

With no action in Division One this week, we move to Division Two now. ACD Utd got a precious 3 – 2 win at Rayleigh Town Res to finally confirm promotion to Division One. Michael Wade netted two goals for Greg Knock’s impressive side, with Samuel Payne grabbing the other goal. They still have to face rivals Harold Hill in the title decider, that’ll be a game & a half! Also, Wakebury got a walkover win against Old Southendian Res so they have a chance of finishing third.

EOFL Divisions Three, Four & Five

Into Division Three, Catholic Utd Res kept up the pressure on the leaders by grabbing a 3 – 2 success at Buckhurst Hill U23. James Warder’s double plus one from Alec Bateman was enough to overhaul strikes by Harry Masklin and Olaobajuwan Olagbaju and give the visitors the points. However, Hashtag Utd Dev still lead the way after a narrow 1 – 0 win at Leigh Town Res means the Tags’ youth side lead by a point, with both sies and Wakering Sports Res having two games left to play. Elsewhere in the division, Toby Res ended their season with a 3 – 1 triumph against PItsea Athletic. Both sides will finish in mid-table, which is a creditable achievement for the EOFL newcomers.

Moving into Division Four, and Old Chelmsfordians Res kept their chance of a promotion spot going with a big 6 – 0 victory over Southend Manor Dev at Lawford Lane. Substitte Alex Tomkins got two goals here, with Shane Pritchard, Tmothy King, Emmanuel Mukaka and Lee Mulholland also on target for the OC second-side. Manor will finish in mid-table. Also, Shenfield AFC Res put a dent in Roydon’s promotion aspirations as AFC won 4 – 1 at Warley Playing Fields. Ross Riding got two goals here for the hosts, while Mason Everitt and replacement Shaun Goddard also scored. Halcyon Griffith got Roydon’s reply but they will likely have to win all three of their remaining games to have a chance of a top-three finish.

In Division Five, Bishop’s Stortford Swifts got the points without playing as Herongate Athletic Res conceded, so Swifts got the walkover win and with it the confirmation of Swifts as Division Five champions so congratulations to them. Ath will probably finish fourth as this was their last match of the campaign.

S21-22 Round-ups: Essex Olympian League (Sat 5 Mar) [EOFL 21/22 7.3.22]

Written by Scott W [Twitter: @ScottMHC14] – Non-League & EOFL Writer

Hello all and welcome to my round-up of the action in the Essex Olympian League, on Saturday 5 March. This weekend saw a large number of postponements, unsurpriningly down to the miserable weather Essex has had this week. As ever, there was a number of competitions being played (the EOFL Senior Cup, Reserve League Cup, Ressie Trophy, Denny King Memorial Cup & Essex Premier Cup), our focus remains on the League action. This week, EOFL clubs were grateful for the virtue of artificial pitches with several matches moved, We have action from the top three tiers, plus we have sections on Essex Premier Cup & Division Five.

Main Image is from my featured match this week: Rochford Town 0 – 2 Manford Way, a link to that report is mentioned later. Many thanks for reading.

Essex Olympian Lge – Saturday 5 March

EOFL Premier Division, Divisions One & Two

In the top-tier, all three games that got played were on artificial pitches. At Garon Park, Basildon Town got a fine 5 – 2 win over Old Southendian. Rhys Fatt and Graham Harrison both scored two goals each and Ryan Scougall also netted for Marcus Bowers’ side, who went up to fourth spot – four points adrift of leaders Ongar with three matches in hand. OS got their goals from Mitchell Ali and Jack Lelliott, but this loss meant they dropped one place to ninth.

Both of the other games were rare goalless draws for this division. Hutton were held 0 – 0 by Kelvedon Hatch in a match moved to Hannakins Farm Community Centre 3G. Hutton fell to fifth but still have two games more to play than the leaders to catch up the four point deficit. Shenfield AFC were also held 0 – 0 by Bishop’s Stortford Swifts, which saw AFC move up to eighth while Swifts are five points clear in eleventh.

Division One saw just the one match irrespective of the weather, as Beacon Hill Rovers climbed out of the bottom two with a 2 – 1 triumph over Herongate Athletic. Lee Henry netted for Herongate in what was their final league game of the campaign, their rivals in Rovers, Leigh Town and Snaresbrook all have four games to overhaul their tally of 17 points, which does make Herongate vulnerable to demotion.

There was two matches this week in Division Two. ACD Utd extended their lead at the summit to six points with a comfortable 3 – 0 victory at May & Baker A. Michael Wade’s 22nd league goal of the season allied with strikes by Warren Taylor and Ollie Williams meant they left Dagenham with the win. Greg Knock’s side know they need a maximum of ten points from their remaining four matches to confirm the Division Two title. Also, in a match reversed to Rochford Recreation Ground, Manford Way had to work hard to grab a 2 – 0 victory against Rochford Town in the match I saw this weekend. Harry Davison and Salum Said got the goals to seal the win that keeps Manford in the hunt for a top-three finish at least. If you’d like more on this match, here’s my report: https://survivor16b.wordpress.com/2022/03/05/s21-22-match-report-rochford-town-0-2-manford-way-sat-5-mar-eofl

EOFL Senior League Cup – Canning Town  2 – 2  Epping Town (Canning won 4 – 3 on penalties)

Essex Premier Cup – Semi-Finals

In what features a crossover with the Essex Alliance League, we now know who will contest the Final of the EPC on April 13th. There was guaranteed to be an Olympian League representative and Catholic Utd emerged with a hard-fought 2 – 1 victory at Sungate.  Strikes by Harrison Day and Jay Nash meant that Simon Thomas’ team will make it to the Premier Cup Final once again. Their opponents will be EAL Senior Division side Woodford East, who got an impressive 3 – 1 win at Clapton CFC. It is right to respect also what has been a superb run to the last four for CFC, but a James Briggs penalty wasn’t enough to get the Middlesex County Premier Division side back into the contest. The Final will be played at Billericay Town’s New Lodge, it should be a fascinating match. Congrats to both finalists.

EOFL Divisions Four Results

Canning Town Res  0 – 1  Ongar Town Res

Chingford Athletic Res  4 – 1  Southend Manor Dev

Leytonstone Utd  3 – 2  Wakering Sports A

Shenfield AFC Res  5 – 3  Sungate Dev

EOFL Division Five

In Division Five, Old Barkabbeyans are chasing a top-five finish now after a 3 – 1 victory at home to AS Rawreth Res. Lucas Winzar netted for Rawreth, but strikes by Jay Elliott, Jordan Mullings and Sean Doyle ensured Old Barks gained ground on the sides above them, with three matches remaining.

EOFL Reserve League Cup

Finally, in the Ressie League Cup, Wakering Sports Res went through after a 4 – 1 home win over Rayleigh Town Res at Cupid’s. The ensemble cast of Connor Fardyga, Scott Clark, Ciaran Sweeney and Charlie Smith all netted for the Sports second-side.

Thanks again for reading.

Jamie Lockwood got a goal back for Galleywood though they still need points to move away from the bottom three. Leigh Ramblers also managed a vital victory, defeating Bishop’s Stortford Swifts 3 – 1 at Belfairs Park. Harry Bovington’s goal wasn’t enough to gain a point for Swifts, as the Rams rose one place to 12th.

At the summit, Hutton went into second spot with a fine 3 – 0 win at Old Southendian. Brad Freeman’s double and Tom Stephens’ goal was enough to keep Matt Singh’s side well in the title hunt. In Division One, leaders Runwell Sports took a big stride towards promotion with an important 5 – 1 win over Herongate Athletic at St Luke’s Park. Jimmy Cox and Charlie Little both netted doubles for Rob Hodgson’s side, with Gianni Frankis’ goal competing the scoring. George Doyle got the only goal for Herongate here but the win for Runwell means they lead by six points putting the onus on the chasing pack who do all have games in hand. Toby moved into second spot after a narrow 1 – 0 success at Leigh Town. Luis Ruiz got the only goal there, and Town need a couple of wins to avoid getting drawn into the bottom two.

Beacon Hill Rovers got a much-needed victory also, as they triumphed 3 – 1 at rivals Epping Town. Callum Turner got the only goal for Epping but they are in a similar position to Leigh with four teams in that battle to stay in the division. Also, Old Chelmsfordians defeated Chingford Athletic 2 – 0 at Town Mead to put themselves in a good position as one of five teams that could challenge the leaders for promotion.
