Hello and welcome to this week’s extended round-up of the action in the Essex Olympian League this week, including the midweek action In League & Cups and the action on Saturday 30 April. The focus this week is on the League action in the top three divisions. Thank you for reading & thanks to Pete Dudley for allowing links to his reports to be added.

Essex Olympian League – Midweek [Mon 25 – Thurs 28 April]

The midweek action began with the EOFL Reserve Trophy Final held at Basildon Utd FC. May & Baker A got the silverware after a 2 – 0 triumph over Ongar Town Res, with Abraham Jairette and Ryan Mugera getting the job done, much to the felight of all at ‘Bakers, congrats to them. On Tuesday night, Rayleigh Town maintained their push for a minimum top-three finish with a gritty 1 – 0 over Sungate at London Road. Captain George Vile’s free-kick was enough to claim the win. Fellow Non-League writer Pete Dudley [@ped1980] was there & here’s his report: http://pedroslocalfootiefix.blogspot.com/2022/04/rayleigh-town-1-sungate-0.html

On Wednesday night, Galleywood Res got a good 2 – 1 victory at Sungate Dev, with Ben Smith and an OG overcoming James Oderinde’s reply for the hosts there. The win keeps ‘Wood in ninth. Finally on Thursday night, Runwell Sports added the EOFL Denny King Memorial Cup to their Division One Promotion as they won 09 – 8 on penalties following a 1 – 1 draw with Snaresbrook. Ife Ogunbayo netted for the East London side, but Charlie Little replied for Robert Hodgson’s side. Congrats to all at Runwell & Pete Dudley was also there, here is his report: http://pedroslocalfootiefix.blogspot.com/2022/04/runwell-sports-end-season-with.html

Essex Olympian League – Saturday 30 April

Now onto the weekend’s action, Ongar Town still lead the way on goal difference following a 3 – 2 win away at Catholic Utd. Harry Rawlins, Joe Lilly and Freddie Mattock got the goals to outdo replies from John Nutman and Carl Read for Utd to grab a vital win. Ongar host the same opponents in their last game on May 14th. Basildon Town are also still in contention after a 2 – 1 success over Sungate at Gardiners Close, with Rhys Willson and replacement Rhys Fatt grabbing the important strikes. Marcus Bowers’ team visit Hutton next weekend in their last game. Rayleigh Town have almost secured a third-placed finish now after a 2 – 1 victory at Hutton, with George Vile and substitute Philip Anunwa both netting to give them another important victory.

In the race to avoid relegation, Leigh Ramblers got a massive 6 – 0 victory at Harold Wood Athletic in their last game of the season. Jack Unwin netted a fine treble here, with Ryan Lowe netting twice and Jacob Meads adding the other goal to give the Rams a good chance of staying in the division, while ‘Wood will compete in Division One next term. Galleywood also got a 2 – 0 win at Bishop’s Stortford Swifts, with Thomas Watling’s 16th league goal this term & Matthew Crick’s strike giving them the points. ‘Wood need two points to mathematically secure safety. Lastly, Old Southendian still harbour a chance of a top-seven finish after a 3 – 1 success at Shenfield AFC.

In Division One, Snaresbrook took a big step towards safety with a 6 – 2 triumph over Epping Town at Hackney Marshes. Ife Ogunbayo netted twice for Rob Caine’s side, with Lee Lashley, Rajpal Bumbra and substitutes Saxon Shine & Youssef Moumen all netted also to take them to with fine points of safety, with three matches left to play. Epping will finish no lower than seventh in what has been a decent season for Stuart Hoskins’ side.

In Division Two, Hutton Res got a huge 3 – 1 win at relegation rivals AS Rawreth to extend the gap between the two sides to five points. A draw in the Reds’ second side’s last game may be enough to ensure they avoid a bottom two finish whereas Rawreth have to win in both games. May & Baker A also got a walkover win over Old Southendian Res which means they end their season in mid-table.

Moving now into Division Three, and Hashtag Utd Development got a big 1 – 0 triumph at Wakering Sports Res to secure the Division Three title. Jay Knight’s early goal was enough to claim the points and congratulations to Denis Simpson’s side on their elevation. Catholic Utd Res got second spot after a convincing 5 – 0 victory at Hullbridge Sports Res meant they ended the season on 50 points, congrats to Eamonn Kearney’s side there who have now secured back-to-back promotions. Wakering Sports finish third in this division and have still had a fine season, but will have to wait to see if they do get elevated as well. The other game in D3 saw Buckhurst Hill U23 grab a 2 – 1 victory over Leigh Town Res to end their season in seventh spot, with substitute Enis Demirbala got both goals for Darren Gosnell’s side here. Leigh end in 9th, five points above the bottom two. & Josh Burrage’s side will seek to improve next term.

Lastly this week, in Division Four there was still promotion to be settled and Old Chelmsfordians Res moved into the lead position for that second spot after a 4 – 1 victory at home to Roydon. A win in their last game will undoubtedly secure elevation to the fourth-tier. Southend Manor Dev also ended their season in seventh after a 3 – 2 win at Sungate Dev. Jack Mead scored twice for the visitors here, with replacement Thomas Roser also on target. The Sungate side have to win both remaining games with a large goal swing to rivals Leytonstone to avoid a bottom two finish now. Chingford Athletic Res also got a walkover win against Wakering Sports A who will finish in eighth spot.

EOL Division Five season has now been completed.

That’s all for this week, the EOFL round-up will continue into May.

S21-22 Round-ups: Essex Olympian League & Cups (Sat 19 Feb) [EOFL 21/22 21.1.22]

Written by Scott W [Twitter: @ScottMHC14] – Non-League & EOFL Writer

Hello all and welcome to my round-up of the action in the Essex Olympian League, on Saturday 19 February. This week, the league action takes the central focus, with a few matches also in several Cup competitions (the Senior Cup does have a short round-up section). This week, because of a number of Cup matches there was no league action in Division Three, Four or Five.

Essex Olympian League Round-up – Saturday 19 February

EOFL Premier Division & Division One

In the top-tier, with their rivals not in league action, Ongar Town kept their title hunt going with a fine 3 – 0 victory over Basildon Town at Lakeside Sports Ground 3G. Jack Zielinski continued his fine scoring run with a double here, which was added to by George Hayes. Richard Ponsford’s side lead the table, having played the most of the top three sides. Basildon temporarily dropped to fifth spot but have eleven matches remaining, in what will be a hectic last three months for Marcus Bowers & Lee Bunn’s side. Kelvedon Hatch rose to fourth spot after a battling 2 – 1 victory over Leigh Ramblers at Belfairs Park in the match I attended. Drew Klessa-Smith’s 15th league goal of the season and skipper Wayne Semanshia’s goal was enough for Darren Hunt’s side here. Tom Franks had levelled for the Rams soon after they fell behind. If you’d like to see more on this match, my report is here: https://survivor16b.wordpress.com/2022/02/19/s21-22-match-report-leigh-ramblers-1-2-kelvedon-hatch-sat-19-feb-eofl/

Elsewhere, Old Southendian went up to eighth spot after a 3 – 1 success over Sungate at a very windy Garon Park 3G. Ruari McIntyre’s double and a Callum Ludlaim strike ensured an important win for Altar Ali’s team. Sungate have the most games to play in the entire division, with 13 matches left and they will be looking to to get into the top five at least. Springfield took another good step towards safety with a huge 6 – 0 victory over bottom side Harold Wood Athletic. The trio of Joe Kiff, Tristan Ofori-Sampong and substitute Reece Simpson all got two goals each here as Francesco Zabotti’s side rose to tenth spot, six points clear of the bottom three. Ath are four points adrift at the bottom with ten matches left after Canning Town defeated Shenfield AFC  2 – 0 in Beckton. AFC fell one to ninth spot.

In Division One, Runwell Sports got the win they needed in their penultimate league match of the season, as they defeated Corinthians 2 – 1 at a wet St Luke’s Park. A brace from James Cox was enough to outdo Bailey Moss’ penalty for the visitors, whose quest for promotion will go to the wire and isn’t entirely in their own hands. Wakering Sports got a narrow 1 – 0 win over Herongate Athletic at Cupid’s, with Alex Jenkins getting a crucial goal to get the win they required. Herongate have one match left this term and seventh is the best they can finish. I would also like to give a mention to the character that is Nick Wilson, who has been Ath’s goalkeeper for most of this season.

Elsewhere, Old Chelmsfordians were held 2 – 2 by Leigh Town, with Daniel Driscoll and Aaron Tyler netting for Town, who still need points to avoid finishing in the bottom two.

EOFL Senior League Cup

In the Senior Cup, Toby progressed after a narrow 3 – 2 victory over fellow Division One side Chingford Athletic. Goals from Harry Barham, Albert Perry and Callum Mann were enough to see Mark Jones’ side progress. Catholic Utd also went through after staging a good comeback in defeating Rayleigh Town 3 – 2 at the Len Forge 3G. Aaron Baldwin, Alfie Whiteaker and replacement Jay Nash got the goals to render strikes by Paul Morris and skipper George Vile as not enough for the visitors as Utd went through.

Galleywood  P – P  Harold Hill (Rescheduled for next weekend)

EOFL Reserve League Cup

Chingford Athletic Res  3 – 2  Springfield Res  | Town Mead 3G

Harold Wood Athletic Res  2 – 4  Collier Row Res  | Moved to Robert Clack Sch 3G

Rayleigh Town Res  2 – 0  Old Chelmsfordians Res  | London Road

Wakebury Res  0 – 4  Bishop’s Stortford Swifts Res  | Nursery Sports Ground

Wakering Sports ‘A’  A – W  Hashtag Utd Dev (Visitors progress via away walkover)

EOFL Reserve Lge Trophy

Corinthians Res  3 – 2  Runwell Sports Res  | Stambridge Memorial Ground

Epping Town A – W  Snaresbrook Res   (Away Walkover, Snaresbrook progress)

and  Herongate Athletic Res 2 – 4  Shenfield AFC Res  | Billericay Road

EOFL Division Two

Returning to the League action now, starting in Division Two. With the top two of ACD Utd and Harold Hill not in league action, Wakebury needed a big result to maintain their good chances of leapfrogging them for the title. Hutton Res had other ideas though as they edged to a 4 – 3 triumph at Hannakins Farm Community Centre 3G. The cast of goalscorers were Jack Shaw, Thomas Price plus substitutes Jude Keeling and Benjamin Rose for the hosts, though the Berries showed their spirit again through a brace from Daniel Buglione and one from Max Hall but ultimately they lost out and their match against ACD Utd at Westlands next weekend could be pivotal for them.

Also, May & Baker A continued their fine recent form with a 7 – 4 victory over Shoebury Town. A double for Daniel Brooker plus one each for player-boss Garry Johnson and Kyle McAlindon was insufficient for the ten-man Town side as Bakers took the points thanks to the ensemble cast of goalscorers led by Alagi Juwara and Ryan Stowell but also included Ryan Mugera, Nuno Espadaneira, Adnan Malik, Jack Howard and Michael Begg.

EOFL Denny King Memorial Cup

AS Rawreth  3 – 0  Leytonstone Utd | The Warren

Rochford Town  1 – 3  Collier Row | Rochford Recreation Ground

Southend Manor Dev P – P Snaresbrook

End

S21-22 Round-ups: Essex Olympian League & Cups (Sat 12 Feb) [EOFL 21/22 14.1.22]

Written by Scott W [Twitter: @ScottMHC14] – Non-League & EOFL Writer

Hello all and welcome to my round-up of the action in the Essex Olympian League, on Saturday 12 February. This week, the league action takes the central focus, with a few matches also in several Cup competitions. This week’s round-up includes a section looking at EOFL Division Four & Five, with results from the Cup competitions.

Essex Olympian League Round-up – Saturday 12 February

EOFL Premier Division & Division One

In the top-tier, Rayleigh Town are the new leaders after a 2 – 1 victory at home to Canning Town at London Road. Strikes by Harry Talbot and George Vile were enough to see Paul Higgins’ side to the win. Rivals Hutton and Basildon Town have matches in hand but all Rayleigh can do is keep winning and see how the table is week-by-week. Ongar Town got a priceless 5 – 2 win at Leigh Ramblers to remain the reckoning for the title, despite Matt Brinklow’s double for the Rams. Galleywood also claimed a 3 – 2 victory over local rivals Springfield at Slades Lane. Thomas Watling, Ben Smith and replacement Marc Rayner goals outdid replies for the visitors by Joe Kiff and substitute Ryan Kelland. Finally, Kelvedon Hatch were held at home 0 – 0 by improving Old Southendian.

In Division One, Runwell Sports maintained a five point lead over their nearest rival following a 1 – 0 victory at Chingford Athletic. With only two league matches remaining, Rob Hodgson’s side know that wins in both of them would likely mean they will get promotion to the Premier Division. Toby also are in that mix and remained second after a 5 – 2 success at Beacon Hill Rovers. The ensemble cast of Marc Porter-Brown, Ben Picton, Albert Perry, Jamie Simpkins and Chris Cox all netted for Mark Jones’ side and they know that they have a chance of overhauling Runwell but only if they win all four of their remaining league games. Wakering Sports & Corinthians also have games in hand and will surely have a say on what crops up in two months time. Rovers’ goals in this match came from Jordan Sargegant and Jack Walker.

EOFL Senior League Cup Results

ACD Utd  1 – 1p Hutton  | Westlands   (Hutton won 5 – 3 on pens)

Bishop’s Stortford Swifts  1 – 4  Corinthians  | Silver Leys

Herongate Athletic  0 – 1 Sungate  | Billericay Road

Epping Town  5 – 3  Roydon  | Epping UC Rugby Club

Leigh Town  1 – 9  Basildon Town  | John Burrows Rec Ground

EOFL Reserve Lge Trophy

AS Rawreth Res  2 – 4  Hutton Res | The Warren

Catholic Utd Res  p1 – 1  Basildon Town Res | Catholic Utd Res won 6 – 5 on pens

EOFL Denny King Memorial Cup

Wakering Sports  p1 – 1 Hullbridge Sports Res | Wakering Spts won 5 – 4 on pens

EOFL Divisions Two & Three

Into the League action with the three games played in Division Two. With leaders ACD Utd in Cup action, Harold Hill were held 2 – 2 by Manford Way at Noak Hiil. Harry Agombar and Peter Tyler both netted for the hosts but Manford Way are unbeaten in five leagues games now thanks to strikes by Samuel Oramadike and Joshua Owoaje. This result kept Manford’s slim hopes of top three finish alive though I suspect Wakebury will be the most pleased side in the top four, as they have to win their games in hand on the top two to lead the standings. Old Southendian Res are now level on points with Manford as well after a 3 – 1 victory with fellow top six side Shoebury Town at Garon Park. A double from Jack Cripps and one from Harry Da Costa was enough to give Josh Bambury’s side the points.

Finally, it was a painful day for Rochford Town as they were heavily defeated 9 – 0 by May & Baker A. Alagi Juwara and Abraham Jairette both notched trebles to reach eight league goals apiece. Michael Begg, Ryan Mugera and Ryan Stowell all also scored for Steve Hogg & Matt Guidera’s side who are heading for a mid-table finish.

In Division Three, the leaders were in Cup action so Hashtag Utd Dev took their opportunity to put the pressure on rivals Catholic Utd Res, after they won 3 – 1 at bottom side Collier Row. Substitute Chandler Wray got two goals here for Denis Simpson’s side, adding to Jay Knight’s opener at the Robert Clack Sch 3G. Row are now at the foot of the table after Corinthians Res got their first win in seven matches in some style with a 5 – 1 triumph at home to Toby Res. Sam Halsey netted twice for the hosts, with Finlay Grant, Issac Bellow and Lewis Coxon also on target. Also, Buckhurst Hill U23 got their third win in their last four with an impressive 3 – 0 victory over promotion-chasing Wakering Sports Res at Roding Lane. Darren Gosnell’s side are heading for a mid-table finish after what has been a difficult season at times.

EOFL Divisions Four & Five

In Division Four, the race for elevation is intense as Old Chelmsfordians Res maintained their slim title hopes with a 3 – 0 victory over Ongar Town Res at Lawford Lane. Martin Mixture, Shane Pritchard and Emmanuel Mukuka got the goals  to defeat their mid-table visitors. Springfield Res also harbour hopes of promotion and edged a super game, defeating Wakering Sports A 5 – 3 at Arun Close. Doubles for Harrison Elles and Liam England saw the hsts on the way to victory, with Joseph Norman also netting. Sports responded through a pair of goals for Tom Vine and one from Scott Church. This result keeps them fourth with seven matches to play, while Sports recent poor form sees them in eighth spot.

Still in Div Four, the bottom two faced each other in East London, with Sungate Dev being held 1 – 1 by Canning Town Res. It does neither side much good, with Canning’s second side needing at least seven points from their remaining four games to have a chance of avoiding the bottom two.

In Division Five, Leigh Ramblers Res took an important three points with a 1 – 0 win at Wakebury Res, with Mickey Dodkins netting the crucial goal at the Nursery Sports Ground. Their lead at the summit is up to four points after Pitsea Athletic Res defeated second-placed Bishop’s Stortford Swifts Res 3 – 2 at Basildon Sports Village. Fraser Bush and Luke Sykes goals for Swifts were not enough for them here which means they will have to win both of their games in hand to overhaul the Rams side. Ath strikes by Sean Devlin (2) and Josh Fryer saw them four points clear in third spot. Snaresbrook Res also got a good 4 – 0 win over strugglers Epping Town Res at Nutter Field to further strengthen their mid-table position. Drew Barbier netted twice for ‘Brook, with Daniel Tesfay and substitute Justin Ayernor also scoring.

Also, Old Barkabbeyans got a Home walkover in their match with Collier Row Res.

End

S21-22 Round-ups: Essex Olympian League (Sat 23 Oct) [EOFL 21/22 24.10.21]

Written by Scott W [Twitter: @ScottMHC14] – Non-League & EOFL Writer

Hello all and welcome to my round-up of the action in the Essex Olympian League, on Saturday 23 October. This week, the central focus on the League action returns, with this round-up focusing on the top three divisions (Division Three is now updated), with results from Division Four & Five. Many thanks for reading.

Image is an Archive one from Rochford Town v Wakebury earlier this month, by Scott W.

EOFL Premier Division

In the Premier Division, Catholic Utd got the result of the day as they won 5 – 0 at Kelvedon Hatch, with Aaron Baldwin returning to form with a double. Jay Nash, James Warder and Michael Sammut also netted for Simon Thomas’ side on a memorable day for them. Hutton also got an important three points as they defeated Shenfield AFC 3 – 1, with strikes by Brad Freeman, Will Marlowe and substitute Sean O’Callaghan sending Matt Singh’s team on the way to a fine win and remain third. Marc Holland responded for the visitors there. Rayleigh Town also got another win, as they won 3 – 0 against Bishop’s Stortford Swifts at London Road. Jack Long, Liam Oliver and George Vile all scored for Paul Higgins’ team.

Basildon Town also emerged from a hard-fought match with Harold Wood Athletic at Gardiners Close with a 2 – 1 victory and remain just one point adrift of the summit. Graham Harrison netted again to continue his fine season, with replacement Rhys Fatt also on target to overturn Freddy Shepherd’s strike for ‘Wood.  In other action, OId Southendian continued their decent season with a 2 – 1 success at home to Galleywood. Matthew Buckingham struck for the visitors there.  Ongar Town also won, 2 – 0 at Springfield to spoil Francesco Zabotti’s first match in charge for the hosts and Sungate secured a 4 – 2 triumph at home to Leigh Ramblers.

EOFL Division One

There were a couple of surprising results in Division One. First, leaders Wakering Sports travelled to Newbury Park in East London to face Toby. It ended up being a good day for Toby as they won 2 – 1, with Albert Perry and a Rhys Willson spot-kick enough to earn a big win and hamper the visitors’ superb start to the campaign. Charlie Smith had levelled for Sports earlier in the game. There was also an important win for Corinthians, who won 2 – 1 at Leigh Town thanks to strikes by Bailey Moss and Connor Summerhill.

Meanwhile at Billericay Road, the points were shared as Herongate Athletic drew 3 – 3 with Epping Town in a fine match. Mark Argent, Ray Snares and Ben Clarke all struck for Billy Cove’s side, but a double for Joe Rickett and one from Andrew Smith was enough to claim a decent point for Stuart Hoskins’ side. Elsewhere in other action, Old Chelmsfordians had Charlie Portway to thank for both goals as they claimed a 2 – 1 victory at home to Runwell Sports, who replied through player-boss Rob Hogdson. Finally, Chingford Athletic narrowly defeated Snaresbrook 1 – 0.

EOFL Division Two

In Division Two, ACD Utd went back to the top of the table on goal difference after a fine 4 – 2 win over Shoebury Town at Westlands. Michael Wade notched another brace here, with Shaun Goddard and Samuel Payne also on target for Greg Knock’s side. Callum Merenda and Steven Sharpe netted goals in response for Garry Johnson’s side but they fell to a third league loss this term. Nearest challengers Harold Hill were held to a 2 – 2 draw by Hutton Res at Noak Hill, with Jack Shaw netting both goals for the visitors there. Hill responded through a brace from Peter Tyler but are now joint-top. Old Southendian Res grabbed a decent 2 – 0 triumph at Harold Wood Athletic Res.

May & Baker A continued to make strides in this division as they defeated AS Rawreth 4 – 2. Alagi Juwara, Rowan Newland, Matthew Ball and Ryan Mugera all scored for Matt Guidera & Steve Hogg’s side as they earned a fourth league win this season. Rochford Town also emerged with a fine win, as they edged a nine-goal thriller, as they won 5 – 4 against Rayleigh Town Res at the Rec. Harry Ford netted twice for Jim Cooper’s side, with Owen Pedder, Musa Kamba and Freddie Pettitt all adding important goals to get a rare win this season for Rochford. Finally, Manford Way got a 2 – 1 win at Wakebury, with Max Hall again scoring for Matt Cardy’s side.

EOFL Division Three

In Division Three, Wakering Sports Res kept the gap to leaders Catholic Utd Res to six points after a 4 – 1 win over Leigh Town Res at Cupid’s. Liam O’Callaghan netted for Town but a double for Connor Fardyga and strikes by Scott Clark and David Watson were enough to claim the win. Catholic’s own Ressie side won 9 – 3 at home to Toby Res.

Hashtag Utd Development remain third after a 4 – 0 win against Collier Row, with Samuel Pratt scoring twice, with Kai Warren & Alex Warren also on target at Barleylands. Meanwhile, Basildon Town Res won 2 – 1 at Pitsea Athletic, thanks to strikes by Conor Mead and replacement Keith King. Finally, Corinthians Res got a 1 – 0 success at home to Hullbridge Sports Res, with Isaac Bello getting the only goal.

Saturday 9 October

EOFL Premier Division

We begin as ever in the Premier Division, and Basildon Town went back up into second place with a 5 – 2 triumph over rivals Hutton. Adam Bessadi struck twice, with Jamie Selby-Knight, Benjamin Smith and player-boss Marcus Bowers on target here. Catholic Utd went up to fifth spot after a good 3 – 1 win at Bishop’s Stortford Swifts, thanks in no small part to a hat-trick from Jay Nash for Simon Thomas’ side. Joe Holt got the solitary reply for Swifts, who remain third-bottom.

Elsewhere, Galleywood went into the top ten as they won 4 – 2 at Harold Wood Athletic. Thomas Watling grabbed a fine treble to take his personal tally to seven league goals thus far, with Freddie Bartram also on target for the Chelmsford-based side. James Pottle got both of the Wood’s goals, as he reached five for the season here, but Gary Willis’ team are fourth-bottom, six points adrift of the top eight.  In other results, Kelvedon Hatch continued their impressive start to the campaign with as they secured a huge 8 – 0 win over Leigh Ramblers at New Hall. Hatch are now up to fourth spot, whilst Old Southendian also got a surprise 3 – 1 win over Ongar Town at Garon Park, which takes Altar Ali’s side up to seventh spot, while Ongar’s lead at the top is reduced to just a single point.

EOFL Division One

In the second-tier, Wakering Sports are the leaders by three points still after a superb 4 – 1 home win over Snaresbrook. Aaron Marshall & Stephen Solarin scored, as did substitutes Matthew Catlin and Mohammed Sesay to give Mitchell Gleeson’s side the win. Runwell Sports are the nearest challengers, as an OG was enough to give them a 1 – 0 success at Corinthians, who drop to fifth in a tight top end of the table. Leigh Town also impressed, as they won 3 – 1 at Epping Town. Brodie Horne got another brace to take his tally to eight already this term, with Sam Irvine also netting for Jack Pearman’s side. Substitute Peter Paoletti got a consolation goal but Epping drop to ninth.

In other results, Old Chelmsfordians edged to a 3 – 2 win over Herongate Athletic, with two Robbie Farrell spot-kicks not enough to overhaul the OC’s. Chingford Athletic also got the better of Toby, winning 4 – 2 at Town Mead to go into seventh, two points adrift of their opponents this weekend.

EOFL Division Two

In Division Two, with leaders ACD Utd in Premier Cup action it was a chance for the challengers to gain ground. Shoebury Town rose to fourth spot after a convincing 5 – 1 victory over AS Rawreth at Cupid’s. Stalwart Garry Johnson netted four goals along with one from Oliver Chew to steer Jason Doyle’s side to their third win this season. Rawreth slide to into the bottom four. Wakebury are up to third after a 5 – 3 triumph at Rochford Town, in the match I attended this weekend. Max Hall notched twice, with Will Wheeler, Danny Buglione and Kofi Gyamfi also on target for Matt Cardy’s side. Harry Ford scored two for the hosts, with Freddie Pettitt also notching for Jim Cooper’s side. If you’d like more on this match, my report is here: https://survivor16b.wordpress.com/2021/10/09/s21-22-match-report-rochford-town-3-5-wakebury-sat-9-oct-eofl/

Elsewhere, Harold Hill are now three points ahead of ACD at the summit after a nerve-jangling 4 – 3 success over local rivals Harold Wood Athletic Ressies at Noak Hill. Emmanuel Ampaabeng and substitutes Thomas Butler & Tisore Ogungbayi all netted for Steve Hubbard’s side but Hill struck four goals of their own to claim a seventh win in eight games. Also, May & Baker A went up to mid-table after a 6 – 4 win against Rayleigh Town Reserves. Ryan Stowell struck a hat-trick for Matt Guidera & Steve Hogg’s team, with Anthony Cooke, Jeese Martin and Rowan Newland also on target for Bakers’ development side.

Essex Premier Cup

In the two Premier Cup ties this week, Division Two side ACD Utd grabbed a surprise 3 – 1 triumph at Premier side Rayleigh Town. Billy Wren notched twice for Greg Knock’s side, with Charlie Munns also on the score-sheet as they advanced into the next round. The same fortune wasn’t there for Hutton Res as they fell to 5 – 3 loss to Essex Senior Reserve side Frenford Res. Jack Shaw notched another two goals for the Hutton second side, and was joined on the scorers’ sheet by Harry Calder but the visitors triumphed thanks to a treble by Reece Morley plus strikes by Wisley Baltazar and Jack Taylor.

EOFL Division Three

Just two matches in Division Three due to the Junior Cup action (listed below). Basildon Town Res rose to fourth place as they consigned Corinthians Res to a 7 – 1 defeat at Basildon Sports Club. Nathan Fisher grabbed a fine treble, with Conor Mead and replacement Sam Marsh also notched doubles in this big win. In the other game, Wakering Sports Res are now in second spot on goal difference as they convincingly won 6 – 1 at Toby Res

EOFL Premier Division

In the Premier Division, leaders Basildon Town have a slender one-point lead after being held to a goalless draw at Harold Wood Athletic. Sungate missed a chance to leapfrog them after succumbing to a 1 – 2 loss to Kelvedon Hatch, with Drew Klessa-Smith and Oliver Pettit scoring for Darren Hunt’s side. Sonny Rossington responded for ‘Gate but they stay second in the standings. With Ongar Town and Old Southendian not in action this weekend, Rayleigh Town went up to fifth after a good 2 – 0 win over Catholic Utd at London Road. Jack Long and Liam Oliver’s penalty were enough to claim the points for Paul Higgins’ side.

Elsewhere, Hutton moved to seventh place with a fine 3 – 2 triumph at Springfield. Charlie Nichols and Mitchell May got the goals for Dan Williams’ team but a stirring comeback from Hutton saw Will Marlowe, Jim Gardner and Billy Chilcott’s fine strike secure a good away-day win for Matt Singh’s side. Galleywood moved into the top ten with a 3 – 0 success against Bishop’s Stortford Swifts, with a brace from Thomas Watling and one from Sam Donn enough to give Mark O’Sullivan’s team a good win.

Finally, Leigh Ramblers’ pursuit of a win this term goes on after they were held 3 – 3 by visitors Shenfield AFC. Jack Gardner got two goals and Andrew Webster got the other for Mark Hunter’s team but the visitors scored three of their own to claim a point.

EOFL Division One

Moving now into Division One, and Runwell Sports are the new leaders on goal difference after a 5 – 2 win over Old Chemsfordians at St Luke’s Park. Strikes from Joe Olley, Korede Odumosu, Samuel Adebayo, Matt Tapley and an OG saw Rob Hodgson’s side to their third win this term. Epping Town also got their first win this term, winning 2 – 1 at Chingford Athletic with Andrew Smith and David Limber getting the goals for Stuart Hoskins’ side at Town Mead.

Also, Corinthians got a big 5 – 1 success over Snaresbrook at Stambridge Memorial Ground. Bailey Moss struck four goals here for Chris Stoneham’s side, with Bill Wilton getting the other goal. Finally for this division, Leigh Town emerged from a stern test with a 2 – 0 win at Herongate Athletic, with Brodie Horne and Max Jones goals proving the difference here for Jack Pearman’s side and they go into fourth spot after inflicting the first loss of Herongate’s campaign.
