Season 2020-21 Round-ups: Essex Olympian League & Senior Lge Cup (Wk 1 – Sat 5 Sept) [EOFL 20-21 6.9.20]

Hello and welcome back to the first of new season of round-up’s looking at the Essex Olympian League divisions for the Season 2020-21. In this opening piece, we look at the League & Senior Cup action. Thanks as ever to the clubs and you, my readers for continuing to show interest in these pieces. EOFL Crest

EOFL Premier Division

As ever, we begin with the top-tier of the Olympian League. Buckhurst Hill got their campaign off to a winning start with a 3 – 0 success over Kelvedon Hatch at Roding Lane. Suleyman Zuhdu started off another season for Mark Williams’s team in a strong fashion with a hat-trick in this one. Also among the day’s winners were Basildon Town who had goals from Anthony Aylett and Graham Harrison to thank for a 2 – 0 win at Hutton. Billy Cove’s Bishop’s Stortford Swifts edged a predictably hard-fought encounter with Old Southendian at Garon Park, ending up with a 1 – 0 victory, thanks to ex-Sawbridgeworth & Walthamstow forward Oliver Fortune’s goal.

Elsewhere, Sungate also started their season strongly at home, defeating Shenfield AFC 3 – 1 at Ilford Wanderers Rugby Club. Petrit Elbi, Billy Wells and Ekundayo Oduwole were all on the score-sheet for Bobby Port’s side. Rayleigh Town also showed their intent by beating Harold Wood Athletic 3 – 1 at London Road. George Vile gave the hosts a fifth-minute lead, before John Bradley levelled for Ath before the interval. However, further goals from Harry Talbot and Vile himself, securing his brace meant that Town started the season in good touch, much to the delight of boss Paul Higgins.

In the other action on the opening day, Springfield were held to a 2 – 2 by Leigh Ramblers. Denzel Adebiyi and Jordan Denyer struck for Dan Williams’ side, though strikes by Justin Hazell and Ryan Lowe meant that Colin Wall’s side left Arun Close with a share of the spoils. Catholic Utd also had to settle for a point as they twice came from behind to draw 2 – 2 with Canning Town at the Len Forge Centre. Ted Buchanan and Ronnie Hobbrough got the goals for Stuart Marshall’s side there.

EOFL Divisions One & Two

In the only Division One game this weekend due to Cup action, Old Chelmsfordians defeated Rayleigh Town Res 2 – 1 at Lawford Lane. Into Division Two now and only two matches were played on the season’s opening bow. Beacon Hill Rovers edged to a 3 – 2 success over Old Southendian Res in visiting gaffer Oliver Tatton-Bennett’s first match in charge.  

Also, last season’s unbeaten side Leigh Town ground out another three points with a 1 – 0 triumph at Harold Wood Athletic Res, thanks to Dan Driscoll who got the solitary goal.

EOFL Senior League Cup 

Beginning our round-up of the Senior Cup action with a focus on seven of the eleven matches that took place, two sides managed to notch ten goals each in their games. First, Ongar Town put away Laindon Orient 10 – 0 at Marhams Close to advance to the next round. Aaron Blair led the way with a treble, while Harry Rawlins, Mitchell McCabe and Josh Boxall all added braces themselves, and Ayo Awoskinka also found the net as Neil Blackburn’s Laindon side were comprehensively outdone.

Elsewhere, Galleywood from Division One demolished Division Five side Old Barkbbeyans 10 – 2, with Sam Donn and Jamie Lockwood also nabbing doubles in this one. Jack Chatterway, Luke Osborne, Tyler Tredgett, Max Orrin, Jamie Ricks & C raig Skipper were also among the hefty ensemble cast of scorers for Mark O’Sullivan’s side. To their credit, Barkabbeyans got two goals themselves through Dre Ferlisi and Murad Miah. Ramsden Scotia advanced without a ball being struck as they had a Home walkover over FC Hamlets. Manford Way also progressed with a fine 4 – 0 over the new Hashtag Utd Development side at Barleylands Road. Ex-Essex Senior player Liam Burgess grabbed a treble, with Olajide Yusuff also notching for Trevor Grace’s new side.

Ryan also secured their passage to the next round with a 2 – 0 win over AS Rawreth. Former Roydon duo Scout Bown and Lewis Watson were on target for Declan Murphy’s side. ACD Utd also won through, with a 2 – 1 success at Shoebury Town, with that man Michael Wade again the match-winner, scoring both goals for ACD there. Lakeside Utd also won on their debut, sending Division One Snaresbrook crashing out as Utd won 3 – 0, thanks to strikes by David Alele, Damilola Olusanya and Daniel Demain.

A new era began at Epping Town as a crowd of over a hundred saw them beat Hullbridge Sports ‘A’ 2 – 0 at Epping Rugby Club. Charlie Pollard and Chris Gormley go the goals for Stuart Hoskins’ team. In other action, Rochford Town got a rare away win, defeating Wakering Sports 2 – 1 at Cupid’s. Collier Row also went through, edging past Toby with a 1 – 0 win, while a much-changed Runwell Sports side won 3 – 2 at Division Two Corinthians.

EOFL Division Three

Finally for the round-up section this week, Basildon Town Res got their Division Three campaign off to a flyer with a 5 – 2 win over Buckhurst Hill Res at Basildon Sports Club. Brandon Hubbard and Genit Abazi got the strikes for the visitors but a brace from Tommy Green plus added strikes by Scott Cooper, Toby Warren and replacement Nathan Fisher sealed the win for Lee Wilgoose’s side. Also in the other match, Toby Ressies picked a fine 3 – 0 home win over Leigh Town Res with Peter Spicer, Tom Biddis and Graham Knight getting the match-altering goals in Newbury Park.

Season Review 2019-20: Essex Olympian League Division Two [EOFL SR 19/20 26.4.20]

Hello and welcome to the third piece of a mini-series of blog articles looking back at the ‘void’ Season 2019-20, as deemed by the FA.

In this piece, I look back at a very competitive Essex Olympian League Division Two campaign, rounded out with an array of statistics compiled from the EOFL FA Full-Time website including top goal-scorers & top appearance makers in the League fixtures. I managed to watch a few Division Two matches this term so they may be mentioned here.

 

EOFL Division Two  (as of season cut-off point of March 14th 2020)

As with all the EOFL divisions, the season was halted in mid-March 2020 before eventually being curtailed several weeks later. Leigh Town were deservedly top of the standings at the cut-off point, as they garnered an impressive 43 points from 15 matches, in which they were not beaten. Unsurprisingly, they had a good defence, the second-best in the division (conceded on average less than a goal a game) whilst also being pretty handy in attack, scoring 44 goals (as an average of 2.93 goals per game or GpG). Jack Pearman’s side were also a good Cup side as I saw them defeat fellow Div Two side Corinthians in the Essex Premier Cup at John Burrows Recreation Ground at the start of February. It’s a credit to both teams that you wouldn’t have thought you were watching two third-tier Olympian sides, such was the passion, energy & physicality on display.

Back to the League, and in second spot was Beacon Hill Rovers, having racked up 36 points from their 15 matches. Rovers had the second-best record at home this term with six wins from their seven matches there, along with having the third-best defensive record, being breached seventeen times. Their two top-goalscorers in Adebolu Adeyemi and Stephen Bennett both hit ten goals as well so credit goes where it’s due. Both clubs will be aiming for another successful campaign next term and if they can keep their squads together, you wouldn’t bet against them doing it either. The next two sides are quite local to me. In third place are Old Southendian Reserves, under the management of Ben Manley. Ten wins in 17 matches isn’t bad going for a second-side that won the Division Three title the previous campaign. Factor in a very decent end to the season with six wins in their last eight matches and having the fourth-best defence this season and it is certainly one to look back on with some fondness. I also have to note the fine performance they put in to win at Corinthians, back in December. To call it ‘determined’ would be an understatement.

Just behind OS Ressies in fourth were Corinthians, who were promoted two divisions, having won Division Four in 2018/19. Chris Stoneham’s youthful, attack-minded side are a delight to watch when they are on-song, no two ways about that. They had ten wins from their fourteen matches to make it to 31 points in all, though could have got in the top three had the season continued. There are two stats that can’t be taken off them though, firstly that they were the divisional top-scorers with 54 goals (a GpG of 3.71 – some going in any league). Secondly, Nathan Dewberry ended up the division’s top goal-getter with 16 goals though to many in the local Non-League scene that won’t come as a surprise, given his pedigree. Even so, respect to you Nathan and to your team-mates on a good season.

Into mid-table now, and May & Baker Reserves ended up being in fifth place. Jimmy Donald’s side had a fine end to the campaign which pushed them up the mid-table places somewhat, and acquired 28 points from 17 matches (though they benefitted from getting three points as an opposition side had fielded an ineligible player in late August). The side certainly has its place in the club pathway, with the first team now competing in Step 6 (Eastern Senior League South) and they struck the net 48 times in all, the second-best in the division. They were also not a dull side to watch as they also conceded fourty-four times and the main downer on their season you have to say is that pourous defence. That being said, the main thing for this team is development you feel and they will look for another strong campaign in 2020/21 I believe.

Laindon Orient were two points behind them in sixth, despite only playing twelve matches due to being hindered by the incessant rain (remember that?) before the season’s premature end. Neil Blackburn’s side still won eight of their matches and can be proud of their defensive record, only letting in eleven goals all league season. They may be another side to watch out for next season. Epping Town finished in seventh spot after having a difficult end to the campaign. That has been well-publicised elsewhere and with a new set-up, they ensured they saw out the campaign with 20 points from their 16 matches. Even though in the early stages of the campaign they were in the top four and looking menacing, you also can’t help but feel that the best thing right now is that they have a new management team under ex-Bishop Stortford Swifts’ boss Stuart Hoskins and they exist to go again next term.

Wakering Sports are in eighth, a point behind on 19 points from their sixteen matches. Overall, Mitchell Gleeson’s side had a solid if unspectacular season though they can build on the record on scoring 37 goals this term (a GpG of 2.31) which was the sixth-best this term. They finished well-clear of the bottom four as Harold Wood Athletic Reserves were eight points adrift on 11 points in ninth spot, after navigating a tough campaign. Defensively-speaking, they were decent though their issues were at the offensive end, striking the net only 18 times, the divisions’ worst this term. It must be said that had the campaign continued, they may have gone up a place or two but they will look for a better campaign next time out.

Corinthians v Rochford Town still EOFL D2 15.2.20

In tenth place, Rochford Town had another campaign of strife, getting nine points from their 18 matches. Goal-scoring was an issue for John Smith & James Cooper’s side, making the net bulge 21 times though having seen them in February, they struck me as a hard-working, committed side under the captaincy of Freddie Pettitt. As was the case in recent seasons though, their defence is their undoing to an extent, with sixty goals conceded, a record only the two sides below them were worse at. Promoted AS Rawreth also struggled, finishing 11th (second-bottom) by virtue of an inferior goal difference, also on nine points from 16 games. They had the joint-weakest goal=scoring record with 20 goals, and hotshot Louis Hill got nine of those goals himself so plaudits to him. They will hope for a better campaign at the back, as they shelled 63 goals (average per game of 3.94) which arguably knackered their season right there. And finally, recent strugglers Ryan also had another very tough season, finishing bottom on one point from 18 matches. It’s worth noting that they lost five points during the season for fielding an ineligible player & being unable to play a fixture but even so, it’s been a sobering season for the East London side. They conceded sixty-five goals this term and they will hope the talent from their promising junior sides will one day play for the first-team.

Round-up: Essex Olympian League (Sat 18 Jan) [EOFL 19/20 19.1.20]

Hello and welcome to this week’s round-up of a weather-affected Essex Olympian League weekend, from Saturday 18 January. Thanks for reading.

Premier Division

In the three matches that survived more incessant rain this week, Sungate extended their lead at the summit to seven points with a 1 – 0 home win over Old Southendian. Scott Truman got the crucial strike which secured ‘Gate’s fifth consequtive victory whereas OS are without a win in their last four and sit second-bottom. Kelvedon Hatch got a fine 2 – 1 win at high-flying Springfield with Anthony Aylett and Thomas Mann on the score-sheet to end their eight-match winless stretch. Darius Egualeonan hit back for Springfield though they fell to defeat and remain fifth. Finally in the Premier, Leigh Ramblers got a fine 3 – 1 win at bottom side Shenfield AFC. Dan Williams, Pat Cannon and Jack Gardner were the scorers for Wayne Seal’s side, with Ben Absolon notching again for AFC.

EOFL Senior One

In Senior One, Chingford Athletic were surprisingly held 5 – 5 by in-form Shoebury Town at Town Mead. Alex Gordon led the scorers for Ath with a brace, with Will Gleeson, Sam Coe and Jack Yates also on target. Manford Way got their first win in seven matches with a great 2 – 1 success over Old Chelmsfordians. Paul Marjason and replacement Olajide Yusuff netted for Manford as they strengthened their position in eighth. Also, Toby were denied their first win of the season as they drew 4 – 4 with Rayleigh Town Res in Newbury Park. Paul Morris, Jake Hinkley, James Braithwaite and James Nottage all scored for Lee Bunn’s side as they remain sixth. Toby remain bottom, three points adrift of Snaresbrook.

EOFL Senior Two

Moving into Senior Two, May & Baker Res won 2 – 0 at strugglers AS Rawreth with Luis Khimji and Ricardo Teixiera getting the goals as Jimmy Donald’s team made it five wins on-the-trot to remain fourth in the table. Epping Town also got back to form with a massive 7 – 1 win over Ryan at Stonards Hill. Eden Nelson and James Odhiambo both got doubles plus Daniel Garfinkle and Glen Warwick also struck, helped by an OG. Old Southendian Res also triumphed, 2 – 1 at home to Harold Wood Athletic Res at Garon Park. Oliver Tatton-Bennett and Dave Stubbs scored for Ben Manley’s team who stay level on points with leaders Leigh Town, thanks to their sixth win in their last seven matches. Brad Foley scored for Ath’s second-string who stay ninth.

 

Leigh Town won 2 – 0 at Wakering Sports as their unbeaten run this term continued, as Sam Irvine and Kieron Crane struck to give Jack Pearman’s side a tenth win this season. Sports stay 8th after a run of only one win in seven matches.

EOFL Senior League Cup

In the one Senior League Cup tie this weekend, Premier side Buckhurst Hill survived a scare as they won 3 – 2 after extra time at impressive Senior One side FC Hamlets at Mabley Green 3G. Player-boss Ashley King and the returning Lawrence With netted for Hamlets though goals for Liam Foster, Nathan Sollosi and Sonny Shilling saw Hill through to the next round.

 

Essex Junior Cup – Bowers & Pitsea U23  6 – 5  Toby Res   | Len Salmon Sta [3G]

 

Essex Premier Cup

In the sole Essex Premier Cup tie this week, Olympian Premier side Basildon Town sent Essex Senior Reserve League side Barkingside Res out of the competition as Basildon won 4 – 0 in a match moved to Hannakins Community Centre 3G. Keith King got another brace here, with Kieron Case and Jamie Merritt also on target in a fine win for Gareth Cleverly’s side.

 

EOFL Senior Three

In Senior Three, Lakeside Res got their second win this term with a fine 5 – 3 win over Hutton Res. Daniel Damain, Salem Said, Brandon Booty, George Meaney & an OG completed a fine day for the hosts and send them up to 10th. ACD Utd won 2 – 0 at White Ensign Res to make six wins in succession. Michael Wade and substitute Billy Wren both netted as ACD stay second, five points behinds leaders Wakebury who won 4 – 3 at home to Collier Row. Charlie Little struck all four goals for Matt Cardy’s side as they made it six games unbeaten. Finally, Corinthians Res suffered a minor setback in their promotion bid as they were beaten 3 – 2 at home by Buckhurst Hill Res at Stambridge. Taner Dagyaran and Sonny Woodward hit the goals for Terry Rose’s side though they remain third, nine points behind Wakebury but with five matches in hand on them.

Hello and welcome to this week’s round-up of Essex Olympian League action from Saturday 30th November. Also includes results from the Anagram Records Trophy & Essex Junior Cup action alongside the top four EOFL divisions and results from Senior Four & Five. Thanks for reading.

 

Saturday 30 November

Premier Division

Four of the five Premier Division fixtures survived the weather, and added to a very tight top of the standings at present as the top four are all separated by only goal difference.  Springfield were held 3 – 3 by Sungate with their immediate rivals Buckhurst Hill and Ratyleigh Town both in Anagram Records Trophy action this weekend. The result means Sungate rise to second, ahead of Springfield in 3rd.

Catholic Utd made a blistering comeback to draw 3 – 3 at home to improving Old Southendian at the Len Forge. Nick Henesy got a brace for OS with Ed Gould the other scorer for Connor Lane’s team, who are now unbeaten in their last five. The ‘Super Hoops’ drop to fifth but are only a point off Hill in top spot, although the latter have games in hand on the other top five sides. Basildon Town got a decent 2 – 0 at strugglers Canning Town with Brodie Horne and Keith King both netting as Bas got their third win in their last four to go sixth.

Harold Wood Athletic also won, 2 – 1 at Leigh Ramblers with Nick Reynolds and Chris Muir on target for Kris Taylor’s side, who rise to tenth after their second straight league win. Kelvedon Hatch’s match with Hutton was postponed due to weather.

Senior Division One

In the three surviving matches in Senior One, Chingford Athletic extended their lead at the summit to seven points after a 6 – 2 victory over ten-man Manford Way. Lee Lashley grabbed a treble here, with Sam Coe, Alex Gordon and Gary Murray all also on target for the Town Mead side. Olajide Yusuff and Josh Hayward struck for Manford who remain in mid-table. Elsewhere, Lakeside swept Toby aside as they won 6 – 3 against the bottom side to strengthen their hold on fifth spot and Shoebury Town got their sixth draw in nine league matches this term as they held FC Hamlets 1 – 1. George Oakley’s spot-kick accounted for the FCH goal at Cupid’s.

Anagram Records Trophy round-up

In the three Anagram Records Trophy ties involving EOFL sides, Buckhurst Hill roared into the nxt round with a 6  – 0 win over Olympian Senior One side Galleywood. Max Nicolson struck twice here, as did substitute Fenti Falola, with Nathan Sollosi and Henry Day also on target here for Mark Williams’ team. Rayleigh Town also progressed with a great 3 – 2 away-day win at Tring Corinthians AFC. George Vile, Bailey Moss and Henry Talbot all struck for Paul Higgins’ side. Shenfield AFC are out though after a narrow 1 – 0 loss at Sandridge Rovers.

 

Senior Division Two

Now into Senior Two, Epping Town edged to a 3 – 2 win over spirited strugglers Rochford Town at Stonards Hill. Jayden Hocking-Rising, Alex Paraskeva and Daniel Garfinkle all netted for Billy Cove’s side, though Rochford certainly gave them a headache as Tommy Dominguez continued his fine scoring run of late with a brace. Epping stay fourth, three points off leaders Leigh Town. Old Southendian Reserves also got a fine 3 – 0 win over high-flying Beacon Hill Rovers at Garon Park. Greg Molford, Oliver Tatton-Bennett and replacement Lewis Telling all scored for Ben Manley’s side who got their third win here in their last four games here to solidify fifth spot.

Wakering Sports got the result of the day though as they eased to a 9 – 0 home win over strugglers Ryan. Danny Pallett got a treble while there were doubles for Ben Rowe, Mohammed Sesay and Mitchell Gleeson as Sports went up to eighth.

In Senior Three, Wakebury went second with a fine 3 – 1 win at Leigh Town Res. Charlie Little struck twice here with Jack Smith getting the other goal as ‘Bury got their seventh win this term. In the other game this weekend, White Ensign Res edged a battle with fellow strugglers Lakeside Res 3 – 2, with Zach Somerset-Butler notching a brace, and replacement Ayodele Awosika also on target at the Len Forge 3G pitch.

Hello and welcome to this week’s round-up of Essex Olympian League action, covering the League action from the Premier Division to Senior Three with results from the various Cups and Senior Four & Five on the weekend of Saturday 9th November. Thanks for reading.

EOFL Crest

Premier Division

In the five matches this weekend in the Premier Division, Rayleigh Town missed a chance to extend their lead at the summit as Harold Wood Athletic returned to form with a 3 – 1 win at London Road. Bradley Foley, Max Shepherd and replacement Joe McBurney all netted for Ath who rise to 12th place. Connor Bridger struck for Rayleigh, who are now five matches without a win. Springfield took advantage of other results to rise to third after a narrow 3 – 2 win at Kelvedon Hatch. Shenfield AFC won 1 – 0 at Leigh Ramblers to rise off the bottom after Saturday’s matches.

Old Southendian defeated Bishop’s Stortford Swifts 3 – 1 at Garon Park to seal their third consecutive league win. Nick Henesy, Craig Paton and Ryan Stillwell all scored here to see them up to tenth, only three points off the Swifts in ninth. Finally, on Friday night, Hutton held Catholic Utd 1 – 1 at the Len Salmon.

 

Senior Division One

Moving into Senior One, with leaders Chingford Athletic getting three points without contesting their match with Ramsden Scotia due to Scotia being unable to field a side, attention turned to their rivals. Ongar Town battled past FC Hamlets  2 – 1 to keep the gap to third to four points. Lakeside stay third after a fine 4 – 1 win at Manford Way. Luke Quinton got another brace here, with Charlie Ashpole and Ollie Pettit also finding the net for the visitors. Manford replied through on-loan forward Olajide Yusuff though they still drop to seventh after this result.

Elsewhere, there was more entertainment in the division as Galleywood rose to fifth after a 5 – 3 win at home to Shoebury Town. The hefty cast of Jack Chatterway, Sam Donn, Tyler Tredgett and replacements Joe Russell and Craig Skipper all scored one each here in a great match for the neutral. Similarly, Rayleigh Town Res edged another thriller to win 4 – 3 at Herongate Athletic. Rodney Wilson led the way for Dan Williams & Lee Bunn’s side with a hat-trick, with James Nottage also on target. They sit sixth now, four points behind Old Chelmsfordians who smashed Snaresbrook 5 – 2 to stay fourth.

Runwell Sports also got their second win this term with a convincing 4 – 0 win at Toby. Caden Vine got two of them, with Charlie Adams and Pearce Clarke also netting here for Jason Emery’s side.

Senior Division Two

In Senior Two, the Epping Town juggernaut continues as they won 5 – 0 at May & Baker Res, which sent them top as one of three teams on 19 points. Despite having a reduced squad, a brace from stand-in striker Aaron Holloway, plus one each for Daniel Garfinkle, Alex Paraskeva and George Martin sealed a win. I get the feeling some Non-League nostalgists would have been keen to see manager Billy Cove have a cameo appearance perhaps?

Anyway, away from the nostalgia, Leigh Town also got another win in a hard-fought 1 – 0 triumph over Laindon Orient at John Burrows Recreation Ground with Rhys Mosedale scoring the only goal to see Leigh rise to second. Old Southendian Res also continued their good recent form with a 3 – 1 success at Rochford Town, with Thomas Adams, Greg Molford and Oliver Tatton-Bennett all netting for Ben Manley’s team. They rise to sixth place now, seven points off the top spot.   Also, Ryan were held 3 – 3 by Wakering Sports as the both sides’ struggles to win this term continued.

Finally in this division, AS Rawreth ended a six-match losing run as they defeated fellow strugglers Westhamians 5 – 1 in Fairlop Oak. Louis Hill struck twice with Daniel Hooper, Bradley Pike and Lewis Wynne all also on target for Shane Bird’s side.

Senior Division Three

In the only match this weekend in Senior Three, ACD Utd went up to third spot with a 3 – 0 win at strugglers Hullbridge Sports ‘A’. Michael Wade, Billy Rungay and Ollie Williams all struck to give the EOFL newcomers their fourth win in eight league games thus far. Sports are yet to win this term though they will be heartened that four sides are within three points of them at the bottom of the table.

Hello and welcome to this week’s round-up of the Essex Olympian League action, which includes matches from the top four divisions, plus the Senior League Cup action on Saturday 26th October. Thanks for reading.

 

Premier Division

Starting with the six matches in the top-tier, Buckhurst Hill arguably had their match of the season as they powered to a 6 – 1 win over leaders Rayleigh Town at Roding Valley School. Suley Zuhdu opened the scoring for Mark Williams’ side before Fenti Falola’s hat-trick plus strikes by Josh Banfield and Sam Sollosi more than secured their fourth win in their last five matches. Town are now winless in their last three games now. Their lead at the top is down to a single point now as Sungate crushed Harold Wood Athletic 7 – 1 at Harold Wood Park.

Leigh Ramblers are up to third a point further back after grabbing a 5 – 0 triumph at home to Bishop’s Stortford Swifts. Andrew Webster’s brace was added to by strikes by Justin Hazell, Matt Brinklow and Jack Gardner which got the Rams their third consecutive win. Basildon Town also won this weekend, defeating Catholic Utd 3 – 2 at the Len Salmon. Jamie Bradbourn, Mark Frostick and Tommy Green all netted for Bas as they sit sixth after their third win in their last five outings.

Meanwhile, Old Southendian had strikes by Craig Paton and Harry Da Costa to thank for a 2 – 1 win over Canning Town at Garon Park. Shenfield AFC also got their maiden win of the season as they defeated Kelvedon Hatch 3 – 1. Ben Absolon, Mitchell Day and Alex Tredgett all scored to outdo Glen Golby’s goal for Hatch and put AFC up one to second-bottom.

EOFL Senior One

In Senior One, Chingford Athletic went a point off the summit with a 3 – 2 win at FC Hamlets. Sam Coe, Alex Gordon and Gary Murray all netted for Ath as they got back to winning ways in the league. Leaders Ongar Town were held 0 – 0 by gritty Old Chelmsfordians which left both sides unbeaten but also ended Ongar’s 100% start to the campaign.

Herongate Athletic got a second straight league success as they defeated bottom side Toby 3 – 0. Lakeside now sit 3rd in the table after a 2 – 1 win at Runwell Sports. Luke Quinton’s double assisted the visitors before later being dismissed. Jordan Gregory struck for Runwell though it is five losses in their six matches thus far. Elsewhere, Ramsden Scotia got only their second win this season with a 2 – 1 win at Rayleigh Town Reserves and Snaresbrook drew 3 – 3 with Shoebury Town.

 

EOFL Senior Two

Moving into Senior Two, Leigh Town have dropped to second on goal difference as they held 1 – 1 at Ryan, thus ending their perfect start to the season. Corinthians have taken their place at the top after a 5 – 2 victory at home to May & Baker Reserves. Nathan Dewberry got another double, with John Bolton-Smith, Luke Owen and Jordan Stoneham also all on target for the Stambridge-based team. In a battle of high-flyers, Epping Town made it five wins from five as they edged to a hard-fought 2 – 1 win over Beacon Hill Rovers with new recruit Jayden Hocking-Rising scoring both goals for Billy Cove’s side.

Laindon Orient are the ‘best of the rest’ in fifth after being held 1 – 1 by improving Old Southendian Res. Greg Molford netted for Ben Manley’s side while Caiden Imbert-Thomas scored for Laindon. Rochford Town  got a crucial 2 – 1 win over fellow strugglers AS Rawreth with Harry Ford and Luke Jackson goals assisting them up to ninth spot. Finally, winless Wakering Sports were frustrated as they were held 3 – 3 by Harold Wood Athletic Reserves. Mitchell Gleeson, Ryan Gregory and Danny Pallett all netted for Sports though a brace from Joe Pyne and one from Tom Rice gave Ath’s second-string a decent point away from home.

 

EOFL Senior Three

Toby Reserves lead Senior Three by a single point after a 4 – 1 home win over Basildon Town Reserves. A brace from Luis Ruiz plus goals from Marc Porter-Brown and Rhys Willson secured the Toby side’s third straight win. Town got one back thanks to Grant Cumming though have lost five on-the-reel now. Corinthians Reserves made it five wins from as many matches after a 5 – 0 win at Lakeside Reserves. Luke Smith and Ashley Webb both nabbed doubles here with Liam Ellis also on target for Terry Rose’s side.

Wakebury were also victors this weekend as they won 2 – 1 against ACD Utd at Shoebury Park. A double from Sam Rowe for the hosts saw them to their fourth win in their last five games. Hutton Reserves got their first win of the season in a big way with a 6 – 2 victory over White Ensign Reserves at Polo Fields. George Wickings’ hat-trick led the way with Sean O’Callaghan, Josh Sumner and substitute Jack Shaw all also adding to Jack Caten’s side’s pain.

Premier Division

Starting in the top-tier, Bishop’s Stortford Swifts returned to winning ways with a 2 – 0 victory over Springfield at Silver Leys. Goals from Terrell Hunter and Michael Moore saw the hosts to their first win in four matches. Elsewhere, Sungate drew 1 – 1 with Catholic Utd with Aaron Baldwin getting the goal for the ‘Super Hoops’.

NO EOFL Senior Division One this weekend due to Essex Premier Cup etc.

Essex Premier Cup

There was a huge array of Essex Premier Cup action this weekend and in the first of my ten featured matches this weekend, Buckhurst Hill defeated Ramsden Scotia 5 – 2 as braces from Suley Zuhdu and Dan Whitehead assisted Mark Williams’ side to the win. Nathan Sollosi had earlier got the opener as Hill progressed. Also, Corinthians advanced into the next round on their Premier Cup debut by defeating Barking Under-23’s  4 – 1. A brace from Nathan Dewberry and strikes by Jake Lang and Leo Clarke did the job for Chris Stoneham’s side in the match I attended this weekend.

Epping Town went through to the next round with a 3 – 1 win over Great Bentley, thanks to a Daniel Garfinkle brace and one from Jack Jeffries. Leigh Ramblers also got one of the results of the round by winning 6 – 1 at Flitch Utd. Braces by Justin Hazell and Pat Cannon were added to by Sam Mountstephens and new signing Jack Gardner as Wayne Seal’s side had a fine afternoon.

 

Chingford Athletic got a fine win as they travelled to Essex Senior League Reserve side Frenford Res and won 5 – 3 at the Drive. The ensemble cast of Sam Coe, Gary Murray, Louis Bollard, Warren Isoka and Mickey Mesmin were all on target for the Senior One high-flyers. Reece Morley, George Fairhead and Ryan McDonach all struck for the Frenford second-string but they went out.

Lakeside also went through with a 3 – 0 win over May & Baker Res. Luke Quinton’s penalty was followed up by goals from Matt Bearman and Charlie Ashpole as the hosts prevailed.

 

Leigh Town continued their fine form in all competitions as they defeated Takeley Res 3 – 0, with a Max Jones double and Harry Payne’s goal sending them through. Joining them in the hat, Grays Athletic Res won 3 – 1 at Old Chelmsfordians with Warren Kayembe, Karl Kayembe and Remi Awosanya strikes sending the OC’s out. Rayleigh Town Reserves outshone the lot in terms of goal-scoring as they thumped AS Rawreth 10 – 1 at London Road. The ‘doubles club’ inducted Sam Lake, James Nottage and Adam Bessadi in this match with Rodney Wilson, Teddy Rumsey, Jason Warner and Joe Pidgeon all also hitting the net here.

Finally for the featured matches, Rayleigh Town won 3 – 0 at Ryan with Henry Sims, an OG plus a Bailey Moss strike sending Paul Higgins’ side through.

EOFL Senior Division Two

In the one Senior Two match this week, Beacon Hill Rovers dismantled Westhamians  11 – 1 at Wickham Bishops Sports Ground. Adebolu Adeyemi got another four goals to go with his hat-trick last weekend. Josh Perry and George Davis both got trebles in this one with Will Simpson the other scorer as Rovers went top on goal difference.

 

Senior Division Three

In Senior Three, five matches took place this weekend. Leaders Corinthians Res extended their 100% start to five matches with a 3 – 1 at Hutton Res. Sean O’Callaghan netted for Hutton though Max Hall’s double and another from Ryan Woodley saw Terry Rose’s side to the win. They are two points clear of Toby Res after Toby’s second-side won 4 – 1 at home to White Ensign Res. A brace from Rhys Willson plus goals from Jordan Aspinell and Marc Porter-Brown saw Sam Polston’s side to second spot. Collier Row were held 1 – 1 at ACD Utd with Michael Wade on target for ACD.

 

Wakebury powered to a 5 – 0 success over luckless Basildon Town Res, who had to field player-boss Alex Shields in goal at Shoebury Park. A hat-trick from Ben Munday and two more from Harry Kateley ensured the hosts’ fourth win of the season. Finally, Leigh Town Res won 2 – 1 at winless Hullbridge Sports ‘A’ with Alex Hubbard and Chris Pope hitting the net to send Robert Hutchings-Spiller’s side into mid-table.

Premier Division

In a reduced schedule of Premier matches, Catholic Utd got back to winning ways with a 1 – 0 win over Canning Town at the Len Salmon. Billy Boag got the goal that decided that match. Also, Old Southendian got their first win of their campaign with a 2 – 1 success over high-flyers Springfield. Nicolas Dubouchet was the hero with both goals for Connor Lane’s side. Kelvedon Hatch also got their fourth straight league win, defeating Hutton 2 – 1 at Polo Fields.

 

FA Inter-League Cup Round One

EOFL Senior League Cup

Basildon Town booked their passage to the next round of the Senior League Cup  with a 3 – 2 win at Shenfield AFC. Brodie Horne, Keith King and Jimmy Markham were on target for Gareth Cleverly’s team at St Martin’s School 3G.

 

EOFL Senior ONE

In Senior One, Chingford Athletic continued their unbeaten league start with a 3 – 0 win at Lakeside. Alex Gordon nabbed two and Lee Lashley got the other as they sit 2nd, below Ongar Town who defeated winless Ramsden Scotia 4 – 2 at Fyfield Village Hall to lead the standings on goal difference. Galleywood sit third after a fine 4 – 0 win at home to Snaresbrook. Luke Osborne, Tyler Tredgett, Sam Donn and replacement Max Orrin consigned ‘Brook to their first league loss this term. Rayleigh Town Res were back on song with a 3 – 1 win over Runwell Sports at London Road. Sam Lake struck twice with Rodney Wilson getting the other as Runwell are pointless from their opening three matches.

Manford Way are fifth after edging to a 4 – 3 triumph at home to strugglers Herongate Athletic. Joe Lovell got two goals for Manford, with Tom Gibbings and Tyler Le Poidevin also netting for the hosts who ended up with ten men. Shoebury Town were held 3 – 3 by Old Chelmsfordians while FC Hamlets had John Gilroy and a George Oakey spot-kick to thank for a 2 – 0 home win against Toby at Hackney Marshes which was their first win this term.

 

EOFL Senior TWO

Now we move onto Senior Two, Epping Town went top of the table with a hard-fought 1 – 0 win over Harold Wood Athletic Res at Stonards Hill. Connor Hammond got the goal in that match. For once, Town were upstaged on the goal-scoring front though as second-placed Corinthians hammered Westhamians 12 – 0 at Fairlop Oak Playing Fields. Nathan Dewberry grabbed six of those all by himself, with Jake Hodder adding a hat-trick. Sammy Ayres, Brad Smith and Jake Long all netted as well for Chris Stoneham’s side.

Laindon Orient sit fourth after being held 1 – 1 by Wakering Sports. Craig Paton gave Sports the lead before Ricky Bowyer levelled to seal a point. May & Baker Res had an away day to remember as they won 7 – 2 at Rochford Town. Isaac Eghudele got two, as did Perry with Afolabi, Smith and Agba also among the scorers here. Alex Jenkins and Joe Lovett netted for Rochford though they fell to defeat. Old Southendian Res won 2 – 1 at Ryan. Luke Stillwell and Oliver Tatton-Bennett were the scorers as their hosts stay bottom following a points deduction earlier this month. Also, Beacon Hill Rovers won 2 – 0 at AS Rawreth to go into sixth spot.

 

Essex Senior THREE

Senior Three was fairly quiet this wek due to the Essex Junior Cup action, with Wakebury getting the stand-out result, defeating Lakeside Res 5 – 3 at Shoebury Park. Harry Kateley netted twice for the home side, with Daniel Buglione, Liam Jarrett and Sam Rowe also on target. Brandon Booty’s penalty, Harry Davison and Ben Austin accounted for the Lakeside second-string’s goals though they couldn’t deny Wakebury a third win this term.

Toby Ressies handed Hullbridge Sports ‘A’ a fifth straight loss as they won 2 – 0, thanks to Alfie Sayers and Marc Porter-Brown goals. Toby’s second side rose to second as ACD Utd were held 2 – 2 by Leigh Town Ressies. Sam Payne and Frankie Markham scored for Utd though their 100% start is over. Chris Pope and substitute Ben Forsyth struck for Town though they are winless in their last three matches. Buckhurst Hill Reserves got the points without playing as hosts Dagenham Utd had to withdraw due to being unable to field a side.

Round-up: Essex Olympian League (Sat 21 September) [EOFL 19/20 22.9.19]

Hello and welcome to this week’s round-up of the Essex Olympian League action, which includes matches from the top four divisions, plus the Senior League Cup & Essex Premier Cup action involving EOFL sides on Saturday 21st September. Thanks for reading.

 

Premier Division 

As ever, we start in the Premier Division as Springfield defeated Rayleigh Town 2 – 1 at London Road to end Town’s 100% start to the campaign. Dave Wareham’s brace for the visitors ensured Glen Wilkinson’s side got their fourth straight league win. Danny Hurford got Rayleigh’s goal though their lead at the summit is halved to three points now. Kelvedon Hatch sit third after a 3 – 1 win over Bishop’s Stortford Swifts. Billy Reynolds, Josh Smith & substitute Alan Taylor got the goals for Hatch here as they sealed a third consecutive league win. Chris Gibbs struck for Swifts though they drop to eighth.

 

Leigh Ramblers picked up a fine 3 – 0 win over Catholic Utd at Belfairs with Rhys Fatt, Sam Montstephens and Ryan Lowe all on the score-sheet for Wayne Seal’s side, who ended a four-match winless run here. The Super Hoops suffered another loss away from home as they stay in mid-table. Buckhurst Hill also maintained their fine recent form, with a 4 – 1 success at Hutton. Two goals from Nathan Sollosi plus one each from Eren Muti and Suley Zuhdu saw Mark Williams side to a third win on-the-spin.

 

Elsewhere, Harold Wood Athletic got another win with a 3 – 1 triumph at Basildon Town. Matt Donovan, Ishmael Raymond and replacement Joe Stevens all struck for Ath to outdo Keith King’s goal for Bas. Also, Canning Town got their first league win in seven this term as they defeated ten-man Old Southendian 4 – 2 in Beckton.

 

Senior Division One

In Senior One, Chingford Athletic sit second after a 3 – 2 win at Runwell Sports. Ath struck through an OG, Mickey Mesmin and Alex Gordon goals to extend their faultless record this term. Ongar Town are top though on goal difference following a 6 – 1 home win over Rayleigh Town Res. Snaresbrook are third after a 4 – 1 success over Manford Way at Nutters Field while Lakeside had Mason Iley to thank for the only goal in their 1 – 0 win at Ramsden Scotia, they sit fourth.

Galleywood won 2 – 1 at winless Toby to rise to fifth place. Nick Harvey netted for the hosts, though Jack Chatterway and Tyler Tredgett strikes saw Mark O’Sullivan’s team to the win.

Senior Division Two

Into Senior Two now and Leigh Town remain top, thanks to a 7 – 0 win at AS Rawreth. Max Jones got a hat-trick, with Oliver Raker, Jamie Yarworth, George Dansie and Tom McKeon also on target here for Jack Pearman’s team. Two other sides also have 100% records in the division with one of them being Epping Town who dismantled Westhamians 19 – 0 at Stonards Hill. To be fair, the visitors were beset by player availability issues though Billy Cove’s tea were ruthless as Connor Hammond, Alex Paraskeva, Tommie Turner and Taner Dagyaran all hit trebles while Joey May, Joe Killingback, Joe Thomas, Bradley Gayer, Sipho Mtyanda plus substitutes Ryan Folan and Eben Rowledge completed a scorer’s list so deep that it could have been reminiscent of a theatre production. Corinthians also were among the goals as they defeated Wakering Sports 6 – 0 thanks to Nathan Dewberry’s double, plus goals by John Bolton-Smith, Luke Owen, Theo Cannon and Jake Hodder as they also got their third win from three matches. Also, Laindon Orient won 3 – 0 at Harold Wood Athletic Res thanks to strikes by Jasper Read, Ashley Blackburn and an OG to go fourth in the standings. Finally in this division, Rochford Town got a morale-boosting first win of the campaign as they won 4 – 1 at home to Ryan. Harry Ford, Luke Jackson, Alex Jenkins and Harry Maynard strikes saw John Smith’s team to victory.

 

Senior Division Three

With leaders Corinthian Reserves not in action, Collier Row went second with a 4 – 2 triumph over Leigh Town Res at the Forest Row Centre. ACD Utd also have a unblemished winning record after a 3 – 1 win over Toby Res at Westlands. Brad Falco struck twice with Sam Payne also on target for Michael Wade’s side. White Ensign Ressies sit fifth after a comeback 3 – 1 win at Lakeside Res. Harry Davison had put the hosts ahead though Erald Makolli levelled before Kieran Follett struck twice to turn the tide for Jack Caten’s team.

 

Hutton Reserves picked up their first league win of the campaign in some style with a 13 – 3 win at struggling Dagenham Utd. Sean O’Callaghan and substitute Jack Shaw both hit trebles, with Joshua Seal and Josh Sumner getting braces plus Stephen Judge, Conor O’Regan and Adam Player all also on target in a thumping win for the Shenfield-based side. Wakebury also won this weekend, with a 2 – 0 win at fellow newcomers Hullbridge Sports ‘A’. Harry Kateley and replacement Ben Munday got the goals there at Lower Road. Finally, Buckhurst Hill Res defeated Basildon Town’s Ressies 3 – 1 through goals from Keenan Gravillis, Landry Gogoa and substitute Tommy Fraine. Alex Witham pulled one back for Alex Shields’ team though they have yet to win this term.

Round-up: Essex Olympian League & Senior Cup (Sat 14 September) [EOFL 19/20 15.9.19]

EOFL Premier Division

In this week’s Premier action, Basildon Town got a fine 4 – 2 win at Bishop’s Stortford Swifts with Keith King, Tommy Green, Jimmy Markham and replacement Daley Grant all finding the net. Terrell Hunter got both strikes for Swifts though their three-match winning run ended here. Harold Wood Athletic registered their first win of the new season as they defeated Canning Town 2 – 0. Reiss Kingsley and Robert Whitnell got the goals for Kris Taylor’s side. Kelvedon Hatch also triumphed, defeating Old Southendian 3 – 1. Petrit Elbi struck twice with substitute Reece Morgan also notching for Hatch, while Mattias Tonking netted for OS.

Springfield edged a tight affair with Hutton as a late Ryan Batchford penalty saw them to a 1 – 0 home win. Rayleigh Town made it six league wins from six as they won 3 – 1 at Shenfield AFC. George Vile, Harry Talbot and Bailey Moss goals saw them extend their cushion at the top to six points. Leigh Ramblers drew with Sungate 2 – 2 for the second time this term, with Acer Wake and Justin Hazell netting for Wayne Seal’s side.

EOFL Senior League Cup 2019-20

Chingford Athletic advanced in the Senior Cup as they defeated Beacon Hill Rovers 5 – 0 at Town Mead. Mickey Mesmin got a brace, with Eric Kelly, Lee Lashley and Warren Isoka all getting on the scorer’s sheet as Ath continued their strong start to the campaign in all competitions. Leigh Town also progressed with a 2 – 1 success at Ramsden Scotia with Max Jones grabbing both Town goals there.

Senior Division Two

In Senior Two, Laindon Orient got their second win this term with a 3 – 0 home win over Rochford Town. A brace from Ashley Blackburn and one from Jasper Read saw them to victory there. Westhamians got their first league win in Senior Two with a super 4 – 2 win over Wakering Sports. Substitute John Massala got two, while Monty Hussain and Abel Okoghenu also netted for the hosts. Zac Wheatley and skipper Russell Beck responded for Sports though they have yet to register a point on the board.

Corinthians had a new star to thank for their 5 – 2 win at Ryan as recent signing, former Basildon Utd, Southend Manor & White Ensign forward Nathan Dewberry got all five goals for the visitors at Wadham Lodge. May & Baker Reserves outshone all on the ‘goals count’ as they defeated AS Rawreth 10 – 2.

Finally, Epping Town came away from Garon Park with a fine 5 – 0 win over Old Southendian Reserves, as Alex Paraskeva netted twice, with Bradley Gayer, Glen Warwick and Tommie Turner also getting on the score-sheet. EOFL Senior Division Three

Into Senior Three now, Corinthians Reserves continued their 100% start to the league campaign with a 4 – 2 win over Wakebury. Max Hall, Luke Smith, Sener Suavi and Ashley Webb all struck for Terry Rose’s team. Oliver Laycock and substitute Daniel Blewett netted in reply for the EOFL newcomers.  White Ensign Res also won this weekend, after a fine 5 – 2 win at Dagenham Utd. Kieran Follett, Joss Pountney, Lewis Brown, another spot-kick from Zach Somerset-Butler and one from fellow substitute Mechack Kisoka-Asuka gave Jack Caten’s team the points.

Collier Row got their second league win with a 4 – 1 triumph over Buckhurst Hill Res at the Forest Row Centre. Also, ACD Utd won 3 – 0 over Hullbridge Sports ‘A’ with Brad Falco, Frank Markham and replacement Michael Wade all on target for the EOFL newcomers.
