Hello all and welcome to my round-up of the action in the Essex Olympian League, on Saturday 2 April. The focus this week is on the League action and we have additional sections on Divisions Four & Five. Thank you for reading.
Essex Olympian Lge – Saturday 2 April
EOFL Premier Division, Divisions One & Two
In the Premier Division, Rayleigh Town got the big win this weekend to stay in the title hunt, as they got a 3 – 1 triumph over rivals Hutton at London Road. Will Baldry, Liam Oliver and Harry Talbot all netted for Paul Higgins’ side as they stayed second. Stephen Judge got the reply for the visitors. Elsewhere, Basildon Town remain third after a 3 – 1 victory over Kelvedon Hatch at Gardiners Lane. The trio of Graham Harrison, Rhys Fatt and James O’Brien got the goals for Marcus Bowers’ team there. They still have two games in hand on the top two with a four point deficit to make up. Sidney Walker netted for Kelvedon , who are in fifth spot. Leaders Ongar Town remain three points clear at the summit after a 5 – 1 success at bottom side Harold Wood Athletic. Joe Lilly netted twice for Richard Ponsford’s side here, with Harry Rawlins, Brandon Wood and an OG accounting for the other goals. Max London responded for Ath but they have six games left to overhaul a nine point deficit to third-bottom Galleywood. Speaking of Galleywood, they got a big 2 – 1 victory at Shenfield AFC, with Harry Bond and Tyler Tredgett netting for ‘Wood there.
Also, Leigh Ramblers got a massive three points by overcoming Old Southendian 3 – 0 at Belfairs. George Moxon, Tom Franks and Ryan Lowe (on his 200th appearance for the club) all netted for Mark Hunter’s team here. They have four games left to gather as many points as possible as all the sides below them have matches in hand on them. OS remain seventh. Finally, Catholic Utd had goals from Tom Elliott and replacement Joe O’Kane to thank for a 2 – 0 success at home to Bishop’s Stortford Swifts, which keeps them in sixth spot and a chance of a top-five finish. Swifts remain tenth.
In Division One, the only match was a big one which saw Epping Town grab a 3 – 2 triumph at rivals Beacon Hill Rovers, thanks to a fine treble by Joe Rickett. The win takes Epping six points clear of the bottom two. Rovers will need at least one win from their last two matches to avoid a bottom-two finish.
Moving into Division Two now, Hutton Res drew 1 – 1 with AS Rawreth in a big battle at the bottom of the division. Both teams remain in the bottom three, with Rawreth having one more match to play. There was a walkover win for Manford Way also, over bottom side Rochford Town which saw them rise back up to third spot. It’s worth noting also that all of the top four sides have three matches remaining.
EOFL Divisions Three, Four & Five
Into Division Three, Hashtag Utd Dev took a big step towards the title with a huge 10 – 1 triumph at Toby Res. The ensemble cast of goal-scorers for Denis Simpson’s included doubles for Shaun Warren, Matthew Gauci and Josh Jarvis with Samuel Pratt, Chandler Wray, Jake Smith and Bradley Bunker all adding one each to take them to the top, with three matches left. Also, Hullbridge Sports Res drew 3 – 3 with Corinthians Res at Lower Road. Jay Knight got two goals for Sports here, with Owen Barrett also scoring for the hosts.
Moving into Division Four, Springfield Res got a important 3 – 1 victory over Leytonstone Utd to remain second, with two games in hand on nearest rivals Ongar Town Res, who also got three points after a 2 – 1 victory at Southend Manor Dev, in a match played at Cupid’s. Hudson Lawrence scored for Manor’s side there. Elsewhere, Old Chelmsfordians Res secured a 3 – 2 win at home to Galleywood Res, thanks to Timothy King who struck two twice for OC’s second side, with Shane Pritchard also finding the net. Oliver Sadler and Lee Judd responded for the visitors but they remain third-bottom. There are as many as four teams who could finish in second spot and the OC side and Roydon have the most matches left (four each) to play.At the bottom, Canning Town Res rounded out their campaign with a 3 – 1 win at home to Shenfield AFC Res, to record their second win this term but it is most likely they will still finish bottom of the table.
In Division Five, Old Barkabbeyans drew 4 – 4 with top four side Herongate Athletic Res at Barking Abbey. The point means the hosts go up to sixth, but this was their last match of the season so they could yet be caught by the two teams immediately below them in the standings. Herongate have two matches left. There was a walkover win for Bishop’s Stortford Swifts Res as well over Runwell Sports Res, which sent Swifts top by two points and ended the Runwell team’s season, in which they will finish fifth.

Hello all and welcome to my round-up of the action in the Essex Olympian League, on Saturday 22 January. This week, the league action was the mainstay, with several matches also taking place in Cup competitions, mainly the EOFL Senior League Cup which we round-up later in the article.
Essex Olympian League Round-up – Saturday 22 January
EOFL Premier Division
In the top-tier, Rayleigh Town sit second after a 3 – 0 success at Harold Wood Athletic. Harry Talbot, George Vile and substitute George Aston got the goals for Paul Higgins side, as they stayed a point clear of Ongar Town, who gained ground on leaders Basildon Town but winning 4 – 1 at Bas. Meanwhile, Catholic Utd strengthened their position in seventh following a 2 – 1 win at Galleywood. Aaron Baldwin’s brace secured the points for Simon Thomas’ side, outdoing the reply from Ben Smith for the hosts.
Elsewhere, Springfield got an excellent 5 – 2 triumph at home to Old Southendian. Replacement Garjay Thompson netted twice for Francesco Zabotti’s team, with Adam Cole, Ryan Kelland and Mohammed Raza also on target for the hosts as they went up to tenth. Finally, Sungate stay sixth after a 1 – 0 win over Bishop’s Stortford Swifts.
EOFL Divisions One, Two & Three
In Division One, the one League match what took place saw a big win for promotion-chasing Wakering Sports, who won 2 – 0 at Leigh Town. Ben Rowe and Joseph Burton got the goals for Mitchell Gleeson’s side at John Burrows Recreation Ground, which took Sports back up to second spot. Leigh remain eighth, four points clear of the bottom two.
In Division Two, in the two matches that were played, Manford Way got a 2 – 0 triumph at home to strugglers Hutton Res. Josh Sykes and Josh Owoaje both netted to send their side up to fourth. The other match saw a surprise 2 – 1 success for Rochford Town at Old Southendian Res. Substitutes Bobby Anderson and Max Harrington both scored for James Cooper’s team to lift them up to tenth. OS Ressies lost further ground on the top three and drop to fifth after this loss.
While in Division Three, Basildon Town Res are now ten points clear in fourth after a 2 – 1 win against Leigh Town Res. Rhys Willson grabbed both goals in this one for Bas as they got their ninth win this term. Also, Buckhurst Hill U23 got a big 5 – 3 victory at home to Toby Res at Roding Lane. Oliver Dingli’s double & Justin Clarke’s goal was not enough for the visitors as Hill U23’s ensemble cast of scorers were Joseph Strange, Jack Barnes, Philip Kumi, Ayomide Ademokun & replacement Harry Maslin to ensure their side went six points clear of the bottom two.
EOFL Senior League Cup
In the seven matches that were played in the EOFL Senior Cup, Hutton edged through to the next round on spot-kicks, following a goalless draw at Kelvedon Hatch. Matt Singh’s side won the resulting shoot-put 9 – 8 to progress. Also, Epping Town went through following a 3 – 0 triumph at Pitsea Athletic. Conor Corrigan netted twice, while Joe Rickett added the other goal for Town at the Basildon Sporting Village. Toby also won 2 – 1 at home to Shoebury Town, with Dean Maguchu and Jamie Simpkins on target for Mark Jones’ side. Bradley Samaroo got the goal for Town there.
Elsewhere, Chingford Athletic pulled off an excellent 3 – 2 success at Leigh Ramblers, with Eren Muti, Timothy Dennis and replacement Scout Bown netting for Declan Murphy’s side. The Rams responded through goals from Nathan Dewberry and Ryan Lowe but exited here. Roydon also got a 4 – 2 triumph over Hullbridge Sports Res, with a treble from substitute Mohamed Benzid being added to by fellow replacement Jack Bagley-Etheridge to outweigh strikes for Hullbridge by Michal Clark and Joseph Darby and get through to the next round.
Meanwhile, Corinthians also progressed with a 4 – 0 triumph against Shenfield AFC in Stambridge. Bailey Moss netted another treble, with Leo Clarke also finding the net for Chris Stoneham’s side. Canning Town also edged through after a 1 – 0 victory over Runwell Sports in Beckton.

Essex Olympian League Round-up – Saturday 13 November
EOFL Premier Division
In a day of big results in the Premier Division, Basildon Town extended their advantage at the summit to four points after an important 3 – 1 victory at Galleywood. Thomas Watling scored his 11th league goal this term for ‘Wood but strikes by Graham Harrison, Ryan Scougall and Adam Bessadi were enough to give player-boss Marcus Bowers’ team the victory. Ongar Town drew 1 – 1 with fellow title rivals Rayleigh Town at Lakeside Sports Ground, with Ben Baxter scoring for Rayleigh there after Jack Zielinski had given Ongar the lead a few minutes earlier. Hutton also lost ground on the top three as they lost 1 – 0 at Kelvedon Hatch, with Drew Klessa-Smith getting the crucial goal there.
Meanwhile, Catholic Utd had a big second-half performance to thank for a 5 – 2 success at Shenfield AFC with Aaron Baldwin netting a treble after the interval for Simon Thomas’ side with Harley Kee getting the other two goals to keep them in sixth. Leigh Ramblers also got a huge victory as they triumphed 3 – 1 at Bishop’s Stortford Swifts. Jack Gardner, Ole Hunter and Paul Hayes all netted to give Mark Hunter’s team the win which takes them up to eleventh. Swifts remain tenth.
Also, Canning Town edged to a 2 – 1 win over Old Southendian in Beckton and Sungate won 2 – 1 at Springfield.
EOFL Division One
In the second-tier, Epping Town climbed out of the bottom two with a 3 – 1 triumph at Leigh Town. Callum Turner got all three goals as Stuart Hoskins’ team got a big win. Chingford Athletic moved into the top six after a important 5 – 2 victory at home to Beacon Hill Rovers at Town Mead. Eren Muti struck twice for Declan Murphy’s team here, with Jed Arthur, Vasilieios Theologou and substitute Scout Bown all also on the score-sheet.
Also, Toby continued their good run of late with a 2 – 1 win at home to Corinthians, with Albert Perry getting both goals for Mark Jones’ side in Newbury Park. Wakering Sports extended their lead at the summit to five points after defeating nearest rivals Runwell Sports 2 – 1 at St Luke’s Park. Alfie Fossett and player-boss Mitchell Gleeson got the crucial goals to overturn substitute George Lyons’ goal for Sports. Finally, Old Chelmsfordians rose to fifth after a comfortable 5 – 1 success at home to Herongate Athletic at Lawford Lane. Charlie Portway netted four goals for the OC’s here, with Brad Ross netting the other goal for Scott Fleming’s side. Steven-Rhys Boreland-Mastersgot the solitary consolation for Billy Cove’s side.
EOFL Division Two
Now into Division Two, and both of the leading sides got narrow away wins this weekend. Harold Hill kept their three-point lead thanks to a 1 – 0 win away at AS Rawreth with Peter Tyler notching his 17th league goal this term to give Mark Ellis’ side a vital win. Rawreth remain tenth. ACD Utd also won 1 – 0, away at Harold Wood Athletic Res with Jacob Dingli notching his 13th league goal of the campaign to extend Greg Knock’s team a six-point advantage over their nearest rivals Wakebury, who drew 3 – 3 at fellow top four side Manford Way. Max Hall, Daniel Buglione and Jack Smith all netted for Matt Cardy’s side but a double for David Alele and one for Samuel Oramadike saw Manford get a point.
Elsewhere, Hutton Res are off the bottom of the table after a big 6 – 2 win over fellow strugglers Rochford Town at Polo Fields. Jack Power and Michael Browne both scored for Jim Cooper’s team but a fine hat-trick by Jude Keeling plus strikes by Dayne Wood, Bailey Morris and Benjamin Rose sealed an important win for the home side, only their second win of the season to date. Mid-table sides Shoebury Town and May & Baker A drew 2 – 2 at Cupid’s with Abraham Jairette & Eddy Cooper netting for the visitors. Substitutes Brad Samaroo and Billy Bonham-Dare got the goals in reply for Garry Johnson’s side. Lastly, Old Southendian Res won 4 – 3 at Rayleigh Town Res, with Calvin Armstrong, John Hanrahan and Dan Beestone netting for Dark Barker’s Town side there. The OS second-side rise to sixth after this win.
EOFL Division Three
In Division Three, Hashtag Utd Development remain in third place after a conclusive 5 – 1 victory over Leigh Town Res at Barleylands. Samuel Pratt notched another two goals for the Tags youth side here, taking his tally in the league to eight this term. Kai Warren, Josh Jarvis and replacement Jake Smith completed the goal-scorers to keep their eight-point lead over closest rivals Toby Res, who won 3 – 2 at struggling Collier Row, thanks to a double from Oliver Dingli (reaching 15 league goals in the process) and one from Toby Stutely.
Meanwhile, the top two both won with leaders Catholic Utd Res winning 3 – 1 at Corinthians Res, thanks largely to a brace from Dan Trenkel and one from George Jones. Samuel Halsey replied for the Stambridge-based side. Wakering Sports Res remained six points adrift after a 4 – 1 victory against mid-table Pitsea Athletic. Connor Fardyga netted a superb treble to pass 15 league goals this term with Scott Clark also scoring for the hosts at Cupid’s. Finally for this division, Buckhurst Hill U23 won 3 – 1 at Hullbridge Sports Res with Michael Clark netting for ‘Bridge.

This weekend saw some huge scorelines and some surprising results in matches played in inclement weather conditions. This week, the focus is on the top four divisions with results from Divisions Four & Five and the one Essex Junior Cup second round tie involving an EOFL side.

EOFL Premier Division
We begin as ever in the Premier Division, and Ongar Town are the new leaders after a 2 – 0 home win over Galleywood. Richard Ponsford’s side have now accrued six wins in their seven games and lead second-placed Hutton by two points. Matt Singh’s side were held 2 – 2 by Bishop’s Stortford Swifts at Polo Fields. Stephen Judge & an OG accounted for the home side’s goals while a double from Sam Chaney took his tally to six league goals for Craig Glashan’s side, who go up one place to 13th. Basildon Town had a frustrating afternoon as they were held 3 – 3 by Shenfield AFC at St Martin’s Sch. Mitchell Day, Sam Coombes and substitute Vincent Clarke were all on target for the hosts, with Jamie Bradbourn and James O’Brien among the scorers for Marcus Bowers’ third-placed side. Shenfield are tough to beat at the moment and reside in ninth spot.
Meanwhile in Beckton, Canning Town got their first win of the campaign, defeating Harold Wood Athletic 2 – 1. James Pottle netted for Gary Willis’ side but Town responded to take the points. Rayleigh Town’s top-six clash with Sungate had to be abandoned on 71 minutes due to a serious injury to a Sungate player, who sustained a bad knee injury. I wish the player concerned a swift recovery. Elsewhere, Catholic Utd got back to winning ways as debutant James Warder netted twice in a 2 – 1 triumph against local rivals Old Southendian. Callum Ludlaim had put OS ahead but this defeat saw them drop below Utd into eighth.
Finally, Leigh Ramblers got a fine 4 – 0 win at Springfield with Nathan Dewberry scoring twice to complete a welcome return for Mark Hunter’s side. Jack Gardner and Ole Hunter also netted for the visitors. Sadly, after the game Springfield boss Dan Williams announced he was stepping down from the role citing family reasons and I’d like to wish Dan well for the future.
EOFL Division One
In the second-tier, two of the top three sides faced off at Billericay Road where leaders Wakering Sports made a stirring comeback to draw 3 – 3 at hosts Herongate Athletic. Billy Cove’s Ath side launched into a three-goal lead thanks to goals from Izaih Antoine, Robbie Farrell and Thomas Turner but Mitchell Gleeson’s side showed their spirit again and left with a point thanks to a brace from replacement Alfie Fossett and one from Connor Burrows. Old Chelmsfordians also got their first win this term with a 3 – 1 triumph over Chingford Athletic at Lawford Lane. Max Johnson, Mason Naylor and Brad Ross all scored for Ryan Fleming’s side here.
Toby got their third win of the campaign as late goals saw them to a 2 – 0 win at Snaresbrook. Marc Porter-Brown and Albert Perry goals saw Mark Jones’ team to the points at ‘Brook’s first-team new home at the Hackney Marshes centre. Epping Town also grabbed a fine away win, winning 4 – 2 at Runwell Sports. Joe Rickett, Chris Gormley, Jamaine Belle & an OG saw Stuart Hoskins’ team to the points which took them up to seventh. An OGo of their own & Charlie Little saw Rob Hodgson’s side take an early lead but they succumbed to defeat and lost ground on leaders Wakering Sports, who now hold a three-point lead.
Also, Corinthians got a memorable victory as they hit ten goals in a huge 10 – 3 victory at Beacon Hill Rovers. Recent recruit Bailey Moss got six goals himself here to take his tally up to 14 league goals already. Jake Hodder added another two goals with Leo Clarke and Cameron Glover also netting for a jubilant Chris Stoneham’s team, who are now only two points adrift of Runwell Sports in second.
EOFL Division Two
Moving into Division Two now, and ACD Utd maintained their 100% start to the season with a 5 – 0 triumph at AS Rawreth. Ollie Williams led the way here with a treble, with Samuel Payne and Shaun Goddard also on target for Greg Knock’s side. Harold Hill are adapting very well to life back in the EOFL as they won 3 – 2 at Manford Way. Peter Tyler, Ronnie Hobbrough and Siddy Clarkson all netted for Mark Ellis’ side in this one, they are now six matches unbeaten and sit level on points with the leaders. Wakebury are another side who are in decent form after a fine 3 – 2 win at Old Southendian Res. William Wheeler now has seven league goals already this term after notching twice again at Garon Park, with Lewis Francis also netting for Matt Cardy’s side. Nico Dubouchet and Jack Cripps resonded for Josh Bambury’s team but they fell to a fourth consecutive loss. Rayleigh Town Res also got a good win on the road with a 2 – 1 success at Shoebury Town. Byron Down kept up his decent season thus far with a double here for Dave Barker’s side. Kian Bradshaw replied for Jason Doyle’s side but their mini-revival is over.
Elsewhere, Rochford Town picked up a crucial 2 – 1 victory over Hutton Res at the Rec. Owen Pedder and replacement Matt Welsh both netted to give James Cooper’s side their opening win this term. Thomas Price scored for the visitors but they are yet to win this season. Lastly in this division, Harold Wood Athletic Res got another three points, thanks to a 3 – 2 win over May & Baker A. Harvey Cooper, substitute Freddy Shepherd and a penalty from Thomas Butler all assisted Steve Hubbard’s side to the points which takes them up to fifth.
EOFL Division Three
In Division Three, Leigh Town Reserves got their 2nd win of the campaign after a 2 – 1 triumph at home to Buckhurst Hill U23 at John Burrows Recreation Ground. Strikes by Chris Pope and Max Whitehead saw Antony Lane’s side to the win, which sees them rise to sixth. The Hill second-side are second-bottom after their fourth loss in six matches. In the other action in the division, Catholic Utd’s Ressie side retained their six point lead at the summit after a 3 – 2 success at home to Pitsea Athletic. Paul Gunn and replacement David Newcomb netted for the visitors but they drop down to seventh.
Hashtag Utd Development are the nearest challengers in second spot, after they defeated Basildon Town Res 2 – 0 at Barleylands. Toby Res are up to third after dispatching bottom side Corinthians Res 5 – 0 in Newbury Park. Finally, Hullbridge Sports Res made it two wins thus far this season with a 2 – 1 win away at Collier Row, with Jay Knight among the scorers there for the visitors.

Hello all and welcome to my round-up of the weekend’s action in the Essex Olympian League, on Saturday 18th September. This weekend, we saw the start of the Essex Premier Cup campaign so the focus this week is the top three tiers of the EOFL & the EPC, with results from Divisions Three, Four & Five. The EPC is a competition which teams from the Essex Olympian, Essex & Suffolk Border League and Essex Alliance League compete (all are Step 7 divisions), along with sides in the Essex Senior Reserve division.

EOFL Premier Division
In the top-tier, Ongar Town got themselves into a fine position after a 2 – 1 home success over Bishop’s Stortford Swifts. Harry Rawlins and Frankie Goodhall got the goals for Richard Ponsford’s side. They will travel to London Road next week to face leaders Rayleigh Town, who got a superb 6 – 0 triumph at Canning Town. The ensemble cast of scorers included Sonny Coutts, Charlie Seaden, Jack Long, Liam Oliver, Paul Morris and Alfie Larkin to give Paul Higgins’ team a fourth consecutive victory.
Elsewhere, Hutton emerged with a narrow 1 – 0 win at Shenfield AFC which was the third straight win for Matt Singh’s side. Leigh Ramblers finally got their first win of the new campaign after a 3 – 2 success over Galleywood at Belfairs Park. Ben Smith scored twice for the visitors but the Rams were not to be denied here. Lastly, Catholic Utd were held 1 – 1 by improving Kelvedon Hatch at the Len Forge. Lewis Payne netted for the hosts, with Drew Klessa-Smith responding for Darren Hunt’s side.
EOFL Division One
Moving into the three matches played in Div One this week, and Wakering Sports got another victory with a 3 – 1 win at Snaresbrook. Ben Burrows, Paul Brennan and Alfie Fossett got the goals for Mitchell Gleeson’s team. In other results, Chingford Athletic got a fine 4 – 0 win at Beacon Hill Rovers while Runwell Sports got a fine away win, defeating Leigh Town 5 – 2 at John Burrows Recreation Ground.
Essex Premier Cup round-up
This weekend, the Essex Premier Cup campaign began, with some big wins for EOFL sides. First up, Premier side Basildon Town put in a terrific performance to hand Earls Colne a 5 – 1 defeat, with Adam Bessadi scoring twice, with Rhys Fatt, Jamie Bradbourn and Graham Harrison also netting for Marcus Bowers’ team. Division One side Herongate Athletic progressed with a 3 – 1 success at Div Two side Old Southendian Res. Antoine Fontaine, Robbie Farrell and Izaih Antoine bagged goals for Billy Cove’s side. Fellow Div One side Toby also won, 2 – 0 at home to Old Chelmsfordians, with Ben Picton and Albert Perry the goal-scorers there.
Corinthians also got a good 2 – 1 win over Halstead Town Res, with Bill Wilton and Bailey Moss netting for Chris Stoneham’s team. Two Division Two sides allso went through, with Shoebury Town defeating West Bergholt 4 – 0, thanks to a brace from Garry Johnson plus strikes by Luke Ball and Kian Bradshaw for Jason Doyle’s team. Finally, ACD Utd won 4 – 2 at Essex Senior Reserve side Takeley Res. Michael Wade and Billy Wren both netted twice for Greg Knock’s side, overcoming goals from Ezra Forman and Callum Leggett for the hosts.

Back into League action now in Division Two, and May & Baker A got a rare big win as they won 6 – 0 at home to Hutton Res. Gabriel Odili and Abidemi Lamina both struck doubles, while Ryan Stowell and Rolan Newland also notched. Also, Wakebury edged to a hard-fought 3 – 2 success over Harold Wood Athletic Reserves at Nursery Sports Ground. Max Hall, Will Wheeler and Chris Gore all netted for Matt Cardy’s side, with the replies for ‘Wood coming from Ben-Paul Gibbons and Thomas Butler. Other results saw a big win for Manford Way as they defeated AS Rawreth 7 – 1, while Rayleigh Town Res were among the goals again, defeating Rochford Town 7 – 3 at London Road.

Hello all and welcome to my round-up of the action in the Essex Olympian League, on Saturday 11 September. This weekend saw some high-scoring matches and some surprise results as ever. As usual, the focus is on the top four divisions with results from Divisions Four & Five.

EOFL Premier Division
In the Premier Division, leaders Basildon Town have a slender one-point lead after being held to a goalless draw at Harold Wood Athletic. Sungate missed a chance to leapfrog them after succumbing to a 1 – 2 loss to Kelvedon Hatch, with Drew Klessa-Smith and Oliver Pettit scoring for Darren Hunt’s side. Sonny Rossington responded for ‘Gate but they stay second in the standings. With Ongar Town and Old Southendian not in action this weekend, Rayleigh Town went up to fifth after a good 2 – 0 win over Catholic Utd at London Road. Jack Long and Liam Oliver’s penalty were enough to claim the points for Paul Higgins’ side.
Elsewhere, Hutton moved to seventh place with a fine 3 – 2 triumph at Springfield. Charlie Nichols and Mitchell May got the goals for Dan Williams’ team but a stirring comeback from Hutton saw Will Marlowe, Jim Gardner and Billy Chilcott’s fine strike secure a good away-day win for Matt Singh’s side. Galleywood moved into the top ten with a 3 – 0 success against Bishop’s Stortford Swifts, with a brace from Thomas Watling and one from Sam Donn enough to give Mark O’Sullivan’s team a good win.
Finally, Leigh Ramblers’ pursuit of a win this term goes on after they were held 3 – 3 by visitors Shenfield AFC. Jack Gardner got two goals and Andrew Webster got the other for Mark Hunter’s team but the visitors scored three of their own to claim a point.
EOFL Division One
Moving now into Division One, and Runwell Sports are the new leaders on goal difference after a 5 – 2 win over Old Chemsfordians at St Luke’s Park. Strikes from Joe Olley, Korede Odumosu, Samuel Adebayo, Matt Tapley and an OG saw Rob Hodgson’s side to their third win this term. Epping Town also got their first win this term, winning 2 – 1 at Chingford Athletic with Andrew Smith and David Limber getting the goals for Stuart Hoskins’ side at Town Mead.
Also, Corinthians got a big 5 – 1 success over Snaresbrook at Stambridge Memorial Ground. Bailey Moss struck four goals here for Chris Stoneham’s side, with Bill Wilton getting the other goal. Finally for this division, Leigh Town emerged from a stern test with a 2 – 0 win at Herongate Athletic, with Brodie Horne and Max Jones goals proving the difference here for Jack Pearman’s side and they go into fourth spot after inflicting the first loss of Herongate’s campaign.
EOFL Division Two
In Division Two, ACD Utd remain at the summit after a resounding 9 – 2 victory over Harold Wood Athletic Res at Westlands. Jacob Dingli grabbed five of the goals himself for Greg Knock’s side, with a double for Michael Wade plus strikes for Billy Wren and replacement Sam Payne completing the scoring for the only unbeaten side remaining in the division. Derek Hawtin got both goals for the Wood’ side but their goal difference took a hammering here. Harold Hill remain 2nd, level on points with ACD having played a game more after a superb 6 – 2 triumph over Wakebury at Noak Hill. Max Hall and Daniel Buglione netted for Matt Cardy’s side but they ultimately fell to their first loss of the new season.
Shoebury Town went up to third spot after a narrow 1 – 0 win at AS Rawreth, with Garry Johnson once again on the score-sheet for Jason Doyle’s side. Elsewhere, May & Baker A got their first points of the season with a 2 – 0 triumph at winless Rochford Town. Rowan Newland scored again, with Jerry Jairette getting the other goal for Matt Guidera & Steve Hogg’s side.
Also, Manford Way got a fine 5 – 2 win at Hutton Res, with Thomas Price and Elliott Fraser goals not enough to stop Bill Stratford’s side avoid defeat at Polo Fields. Finally, Rayleigh Town Res got the result of their campaign thus far with a big 6 – 2 win over Old Southendian Res at Garon Park 3G.
EOFL Division Three
In Division Three, Toby Res went up to third place after a fine 5 – 1 success at home to Buckhurst Hill U23, with Oliver Dingli notching twice for Lee Glynn’s side, plus Justin Clarke, Myrie and Davies all joined in on the goals. Substitute Tyla Fenlon got the solitary reply for Alan Byers’ side. Pitsea Athletic went up to mid-table after a good 2 – 1 win over Hullbridge Sports Res at Lower Road. Rhys Davies and Louis Starkey goals secured the points for Trevor Wickens’ side. Bobby Badnall responded for Jason Mole’s team but it’s two wins from their four matches thus far.
Meanwhile, Leigh Town Res navigated a tough trip to Collier Row and recorded a 3 – 1 win at the Forest Row Centre. Strikes from Aaron Tyler, Max Whitehead and Chris Pope secured the first win of the new term for Antony Lane’s side. In other results, Wakering Sports Res remain top after a 5 – 0 home win over Shenfield AFC Res at Cupid’s while Catholic Utd Res hammered Corinthians Res 10 – 3 at St Thomas More Sch.

Hello all and welcome to the last edition of my Essex Olympian League round-up articles for the restarted Season 2020-21, looking the action in the Essex Olympian League divisions on Saturday 29th May. Before we move on, I’d like to reiterate my thanks for the support I’ve received from Managers, players & Club Officials during the season and for their assistance during the season.
EOFL Premier Division
On the last day of action in the Premier Division, Bishop’s Stortford Swifts secured a fourth-placed finish in the PPG Table with a 3 – 2 win over Harold Wood Athletic at Silver Leys. Ryan Blackman struck twice for the hosts, with substitute Jayden Hocking-Rising also netting to secure the win. Jack Sykes-Brown and Robert Whitnell both struck for Wood but this result they dropped to ninth in the PPG Table, below Rayleigh Town. After this match, both Billy Cove and Alex Goldstone announced their departures from their respective managerial roles and I wish them well for their next role in the game.
Hutton drew 1 – 1 with Springfield at Polo Fields, with Tarik Moore-Azille nettng for Matt Singh’s side, and Jake Clarke responding for Dan Williams’ side. Hutton finish seventh in the modified table, with Springfield ending the campaign tenth after a run of just one defeat in their last seven matches. Elsewhere, Rayleigh Town defeated runners-up Basildon Town 2 – 0 thanks to strikes from Sonny Coutts and a Bailey Moss spot-kick. Rayleigh finish eighth after a run of five wins in their last seven which gives them some foundation for next term. Sungate also drew 3 -3 with Champions Buckhurst Hill, in what was Hill’s first draw of the league season.

EOFL Division One
The one matter to resolve in Division One was who would join champions Ongar in being elevated to the Premier Division. Galleywood ended that question with a 2 – 1 win at previously unbeaten Ongar Town, with Matthew Buckingham scoring both goals for the Chelmsford-based side. Aaron Blair notched his 100th goal for the club (Not bad in three seasons!) in response but Town were unable to get through the season unbeaten, but still face a new challenge next term. Nearest challengers Manford Way were just edged out despite a 2 – 0 win at Herongate Athletic, with Billy Rees and Daniel Lopes scoring for Trevor Grace’s side here but they finished two points adrift of the top two in third spot.
Elsewhere, Rayleigh Town Ressies ended their season with an entertaining 4 – 4 draw with Ramsden Scotia. George Vile scored twice for the hosts, with Harry Barham and Ebeneezer Djan also on target for Dave Barker’s side. Richard Bishop struck a treble in response for Ramsden, with Jamie Rivers getting the other goal and they got a point despite finishing with ten men. Town finished tenth, a point clear of the bottom two whereas Ramsden finish eighth, nine points better off.

EOFL Division Two
The two outstanding matches provided plenty of goals in Division Two but it was Beacon Hill Rovers who secured the second promotion spot with a 3 – 2 win over Wakering Sports at Wickham Bishops Sports Ground. Josh Perry hit two goals here for Stephen Bennett’s side, with Bradley Morgan notching the other. Ben Rowe and Mohammed Sesay got the goals for player-boss Mitchell Gleeson’s team but they finish in fourth in the PPG-adjusted standings. Epping Town got third spot with a thumping 7 – 0 win over Corinthians, in a game that was overshadowed by player-boss Stuart Hoskins being taken to hospital with a serious leg injury, I wish him well in his recovery. Callum Turner led the way with a treble and a brace from substitute Chris Gormley plus one each for Sam Law and Joe Rickett emphasised the scale of the victory here. The Stambridge side finished fifth after a barren run of only one win in their last five matches.

EOFL Division Three
Champions ACD Utd went into their new challenge next season in Division Two with a 3 – 2 win at Hullbridge Sports A, with player-boss Michael Wade, Billy Rungay and George Munns all on target as they secured their 14th win of a very impressive campaign. Harry Boswell’s second penalty in as many games was allied with Charlie Oakman’s strike to give the youthful Hullbridge side hope but ultimately they finish sixth this term. Meanwhile, Manford Way Ressies celebrated their runners-up spot with a 5 – 0 triumph at faltering Collier Row, with David Hornsby scoring yet another treble, plus Charlie Parish and replacement Joe Marjason also netted here.
Hutton Reserves may have more points but their inferior PPG to Manford Ressies was really costly in the end, and ended their season with a huge 8 – 2 victory at Buckhurst Hill Res. Matthew Price netted a hat-trick, along with doubles for Jack Shaw and substitute Dayne Wood. Carl Dutton also got on the score-sheet again as Bill Stratford’s side commendably played twenty games this term, just two short of a ‘full’ season. Buttrint Lecaj got both goals here for Hill Reserves but they finish ninth, four points clear of the bottom two.

EOFL Premier Division
In the Premier Division, the main news from midweek was Buckhurst Hill were confirmed champions after Shenfield AFC withdrew from their midweek contest. Hill got another three points as opponents Old Southendian were unable to compete. Many congrats to manager Mark Williams and his impressive squad who are approaching fifty league goals scored this term.
Catholic Utd went back up to third spot after a 4 – 2 win against Shenfield AFC at the Len Forge. Brad Rowland, Aaron Baldwin, Teejay Chiororo and Luke Trice all scored for Simon Thomas’ team in that one. They are three points behind second-placed Basildon Town as they were held 1 – 1 by improving Springfield at Arun Park. Marcus Bowers netted for Town who have still had a mightily impressive season. Substitute Jake Clarke replied for Dan Williams’side.. Hutton got back to winning ways with a 3 – 2 triumph over Leigh Ramblers in what was the latter’s final game of the campaign. Brad Freeman, Will Marlowe & John hilliard all netted for Matt Singh’s team who have a top five finish back in their sights with two home matches left, they’re only against Buckhurst Hill and Springfield. Good test though Mr Singh, wouldn’t you agree? George Moxon and replacement Billy Carter responded for Ronnie Bridges’team.
Meanwhile, Bishop’s Stortford Swifts kept up their unbeaten league run with a 2 – 2 draw against spirited Canning Town at Silver Leys. Chris Lockwood and Kurt Smith netted for Billy Cove’s team here but they drop one to fourth. Elsewhere, Harold Wood Athletic got a decent 2 – 0 success at Kelvedon Hatch, with Matthew Donovan and a Josh Steel free-kick enough to see Alex Goldstone’s team to victory. Rayleigh Town also won again, 2 – 1 at Sungate with club stalwarts Bailey Moss and Paul Morris both netting for Paul Higgins’ side. They remain in ninth but are five points clear of Springfield in 10th.

EOFL Division One
With Ongar Town out of action, Galleywood had to keep winning to keep their slim hopes of the title alive. They did just that, defeating bottom side Shoebury Town 4 – 0 at Melbourne Park in Chelmsford. A double from replacement Ben Smith, plus goals for Harry Bond and Sean Barry were enough to keep their four-point cushion in second-place. The chasing pack also all did their bit as they chase that second promotion spot, with Runwell Sports defeating Ramsden Scotia 2 – 1 at St Luke’s Park.
Manford Way also triumphed with a 4 – 1 win at Rayleigh Town Res. The ensemble cast of scorers included James Clarke, Glen Warwick and substitutes Tyrone Scarlett & Tyler Le Poidevin. Trevor Grace’s side notched their fifth win in their last eight matches and are five points clear in fourth spot. Town remain second-bottom. Toby also grabbed an impressive 6 – 1 success over Old Chelmsfordians in Newbury Park to rise up to fifth in the table. Ben Picton netted a fine hat-trick, supplanted by strikes from Rhys Willson (pen), Chris Rowland and Tolu Dina. Ryan Fleming netted for the OC’s but its five matches without a win for them now.
Lastly, Herongate Athletic and Snaresbrook had a quick turnaround in their two matches this week. Firstly, Snaresbrook defeated Herongate 4 – 2 at Riverside Sch in Barking on Tuesday night. Drew Barbier struck twice in this match with an OG also present. Joseph Fogarty and Elliott Thompson replied for Ath in this defeat but Athletic got some payback at the weekend as they won 2 – 1 against ‘Brook thanks to strikes from Brandon Kelly and substitute Jack Holloway in their home game on Saturday to go up to tenth. Snaresbrook drop down to sixth.

EOFL Division Two
The Points per Game (PPG) rationale has rather confused things in Division Two. Champions Leigh Town were not in action, and in the conventional standings, they were overhauled by the teams chasing a second promotion spot. Beacon Hill Rovers got another important three points by defeating Ryan 4 – 2. They went ‘top’ of the table, and Epping Town are a point behind them in ‘second’ after their 3 – 1 victory over May & Baker A at Epping UC Rugby Club. Strikes from Sam Law, Joe Rickett (his 15th league goal of the season) and substitute Chris Gormley were enough to keep Stuart Hoskins’ side well in the reckoning for that valuable promotion spot. Wakering Sports also hold slim hopes as well after a 4 – 2 win over nine-man Corinthians at Cupid’s. A treble from Meschack Kisoka and a Ben Rowe strike truly ended the Stambridge side’s declining hopes of elevation and will be instead be aiming for a top-four finish after three straight losses have hit them hard in recent weeks. Wakering’s fifth win in their last six means they are in principal position capitalize if Beacon Hill & Epping slip up in a nerve-jangling last two weeks of the season.
Elsewhere, Laindon Orient hammered AS Rawreth 7 – 1 at Markhams Chase as they are also looking to finish strongly. Oliver Dingli netted a treble on his return for Neil Blackburn’s side, with James Shadwell scored twice to take his goal tally to six in the league. Joshua Chadwick and substitute Matthew Gibson all netted to take them up to fifth. Rawreth now have to win both of their remaining matches to stave off finishing at the foot of the table. Harold Wood Athletic Res also won this week, 4 – 1 at Rochford Town thanks to doubles from Warren Taylor and Derek Hawtin. This win sees them rise up to eighth spot.

EOFL Division Three
In the only division really still to be decided, Hutton Res are now the new leaders after another two wins this week. Firstly, they triumphed 5 – 1 away at Collier Row on Wednesday night, with a treble from top-scorer Jack Shaw, an OG and a pearler from Matthew Price securing the points. Hutton’s second side then kept the lead after an impressive 5 – 2 win at Corinthians Res at Stambridge on Saturday. Carl Dutton continued his fine form with a treble to lead the way, whilst Stewart Biggue and Tom Price also scored for the visitors. Bill Stratford’s side are a point clear of ACD Utd who are still in pole position in the PPG stakes for promotion & the title after a 3 – 1 win against Buckhurst Hill Res at Westlands. Paul Mangan, Charlie Munns and Mason Oakley saw Michael Wade’s team to a crucial three points.
With Manford Way Res not in action this week, Wakebury saw their faint hopes of promotion more of less fizzle out after losing 3 – 2 at Hullbridge Sports A on Thursday night. Charlie Cox scored twice for the Hullbridge youth side, with Edward Hawney also on target. Goals from Robbie Norris and replacement Harry Kateley were not enough to prevent Matt Cardy’s side a loss they could ill afford to really stay in the promotion hunt. The Berries recovered though on Saturday with a fine 3 – 2 win at Collier Row. Chris Gore’s spot-kick, an OG and one from Charlie Little’s 14th league goal this term saw the visitors to a morale-boosting win to strengthen their position in fourth.
Hullbridge A were also in action on Saturday, as they were held to a 1 – 1 draw by Basildon Town Res. Mark Squibb struck for the Town second-side, with Joseph Darby firing in his seventh league goal this term to keep his side in sixth, a point behind their opponents here. Finally for Div Three, Lakeside Utd all but secured eighth spot with a 5 – 2 success over Toby Res. Ryan Kenyon’s double plus strikes from David Alele, Brandon Booty and Kemari Hypolite’s spot-kick ensured Ben Crouch’s team got the points. Toby’s Ressies remain second-bottom.

EOFL Division Four
This week, we’re including the action in Divisions Four & Five. In Division Four, Catholic Utd Res secured the Division Four title with a 6 – 1 win over Wakering Sports Res in Westcliff. Tom Harding’s side gathered their 13th win in fourteen matches in some style, thanks to doubles from Franklin Craik (who has now scored 16 league goals this term) and Joe O’Kane plus one goal each for Mark Baptist and James Warder. This game saw Dan Trenkel make an incredible 801st career appearance and also confirmed another rare statistic – Mark Baptist has won promotion from Divisions One through & including Division Four as well as winning the Premier Division. Some stat that is too, thanks to the club’s Twitter for that. Congrats to the squad & the coaching team on their achievement this weekend.
In other action in the division, Chingford Athletic Res powered past Shenfield AFC Res 8 – 2 at Town Mead to see them rise to fourth spot. The visitors remain second-bottom after three wins from their fourteen outings. Hashtag UtdDevelopment are a win away from probable elevation after a 2 – 1 win at Laindon OrientRes. Matthew Gauci and Kai Warren’s 14th league goal of the season secured the points for the visitors here. Wakering Sports Res could still deny them via PPG I believe if they get maximum points from their two games and Hashtag slip up in their last game at home to Ongar Town Ressies next weekend.

EOFL Division Five
In Division Five, Springfield Res got the result with the biggest ramifications as their 3 – 1 victory over promotion rivals Collier Row Res meant they secured the runners-up spot via PPG. Another brace from Liam England plus an Antonious Simon-Parson goal was enough to give the hosts their tenth win this season. Elsewhere, in the second game of a double-header at Silver Leys, Bishop’s Stortford Swifts Res struck late to defeat Roydon 3 – 2. A brace from Oliver Fortune and one from Chris Jennings was enough to overhaul strikes from Mohamed Benzid and Olu Olaniyan to go above their opponents into fourth on goal difference.

Finally for the action that did take place, Old Barkabbeyans secured a 6 – 1 trimuph over Epping Town Res at Barking Abbey Sch. Jordan Mullings and Michael Ryder both notched twice, with replacement Jerome Morris and an OG accounting for the other goals. Charlie Parker’s goal was scant consolation for the Town side who remain in ninth spot.

Hello all and welcome to another edition of my round-up articles, looking the action in week seven of the ‘mini-season’ in the Essex Olympian League divisions on Saturday 8th May. As ever, our focus here is on the top four tiers, with results from Divisions Four & Five. Thank you for reading.
EOFL Premier Division
In the Premier Division, Springfield got arguably the result of the weekend, as they won 1 – 0 at Basildon Town. It may not have been pretty for Dan Williams’ side, given that their goal was an OG from a set-piece but that won’t worry the Springfield management team. The win sees them rise up to eleventh spot and Basildon needing points to secure their second place. Bas have a swift chance to exact some payback though – they visit Arun Park next weekend! Bas’ chief challengers could well be Bishop’s Stortford Swifts who made it seven league matches unbeaten with a 2 – 1 success at Kelvedon Hatch. Kurt Smith and Ryan Blackman goals got Billy Cove’s side another win and it sees them go fourth, level on points with Leigh Ramblers just above them. Lee Hamill’s strike for Kelvedon couldn’t prevent their second loss in their last five games, and they fell to twelfth place.
In other action, Buckhurst Hill can win the Premier Division title in midweek after they were made to work hard to defeat Canning Town 3 – 1 at Roding Lane. Alfie Harris’ double and Suleyman Zuhdu’s 20th league goal of the campaign secured Hill’s 13th win in fourteen matches. Canning’s defeat sees them drop back to second-bottom. Sungate were held 2 – 2 by Old Southendian in East London, with Craig Paton and Jamie Oates scoring for player-boss Connor Lane’s side. OS are two bottom, two points adrift of Canning Town but it was another gutsy point on the road. The ‘Gate remain sixth and they will aim for a top-four finish I feel given all their remaining three games are at home.
Elsewhere, Rayleigh Town got an important 2 – 1 triumph over Harold Wood Athletic at London Road. Strikes from George Vile and Bailey Moss were enough to see Paul Higgins’ side keep a three-point cushion in ninth spot. Robert Whitnell’s strike from the penalty spot had brought Alex Goldstone’s side level but they fell to defeat, which sees them stay eighth. In the other action in this division, Catholic Utd travelled to Polo Fields and drew 2 – 2 with Hutton. Brad Rowland and Max O’Leary got the goals for Simon Thomas’ visiting side, but Joshua Seal and Alfie Curelli responded for Matt Singh’s team. Hutton remain sixth, while the Hoops drop to fifth after this result. Finally, Shenfield AFC got an eye-catching 3 – 2 win over Leigh Ramblers at St Martins Sch 3G. The win takes them up to tenth spot and Ramblers will have to hope victory in their last match next weekend at Hutton is enough to keep them in the top four at the end of May.
EOFL Division One
In the second tier, Galleywood completed a terrific 5 – 3 win at home to Snaresbrook, played at Moulsham Sch 3G. Mark O’Sullivan’s side finished the match with ten men but a treble from Thomas Watling (who made it eight league goals in twelve starts this term) plus strikes by Jack Chatterway and Jack Hayes secured the win which kept them in second spot. Drew Barbier’s double (one from 12 yards) and one from Daniel Walsh kept ‘Brook in the match but they drop to eighth spot in this increasingly competitive division.
The hunt for the second-placed finish is also getting tighter. Runwell Sports are a point behind Galleywood in second after a 2 – 0 win at Ramsden Scotia. This was their third win in their last five matches for Jason Plom’s side. They are a point clear of Manford Way who got a important 1 – 0 win at Chingford Athletic with Charlie Heatley getting the only goal of the game for Trevor Grace’s side. Elsewhere, Shoebury Town got their first win in eight league matches with a fine 5 – 3 win at Rayleigh Town Res. Garry Johnson’s treble plus strikes by Billy Cottrill and a Kirk Hudson penalty was enough for Lee Boosey’s new side. Goals from Harry Barham, Matt Atoo and Matthew Bampus were not quite enough to recover any points for Dave Barker’s side in an entertaining match at London Road which I also attended. Also, Toby got a good 3 – 2 win at Herongate Athletic, with Rhys Willson, Chris Rowland and Louis Hill all on target for Mark Jones’ side. This result takes them up to sixth spot and they will have a say in how the top five shapes up, given they have to play Old Chelmsfordians & Runwell Sports in the next three weeks. Herongate remain second-bottom.
Meanwhile, Ongar Town garnering the points without needing to navigate a tricky tie with Old Chelmsfordians because the latter were unable to field an XI. It means that nearest challengers Galleywood have to defeat Chingford Athletic in midweek to stave off the party for champions-elect Town for another week.
EOFL Division Two
We have our first confirmed champions in the Olympian divisions as Leigh Town battled to a 3 – 2 win at Laindon Orient at Markhams Chase. Strikes from Max Jones, Brodie Horne and James Roberts finally secured elevation for Jack Pearman’s side here. Shomari Barnwell’s brace had put Neil Blackburn’s side in strong position earlier in the game but Leigh would not be denied and they get deserved recognition for the form they’ve showed in the last couple of seasons. I’d like to pass on my congratulations to Jack and the whole squad on a great achievement. Laindon remain in sixth, ready to pounce if the sides above them falter as they will be looking for a top-four finish.
Elsewhere, Beacon Hill Rovers gained another big three points with a 3 – 1 victory over promotion rivals Corinthians at Wickham Bishops Sports Ground. The former Burnham Ramblers pair of Karl Swanborough (2) and Bradley Morgan combined to overpower Chris Stoneham’s side and stay a point clear in second spot. Ted Turnham netted a late consolation for the visitors but this result means they are not in charge of their own destiny. That is chiefly because Epping Town moved above them into third spot after a thumping 5 – 1 win at AS Rawreth. Joe Rickett notched four times in this one to take his tally to 14 league goals this term. Peter Paoletti had opened the scoring for the visitors here and Stuart Hoskins’ side are two points clear of the Stambridge side with both teams having three matches remaining. Oh, and they face each other on the last day of the Olympian season in Epping. Rawreth remain bottom, five points off their nearest rival May & Baker A, who lost 3 – 1 at Harold Wood Athletic Res. Darren Wettner, Warren Taylor and Adam Farley got the goals to give Wood’s second side the win which takes them up to ninth spot, whereas the visitors stay second-bottom.
Elsewhere in the division, Old Southendian Res put a spanner in the works of Wakering Sports‘ promotion aspirations as the OS side won 2 – 1 at Cupid’s. Nico Dubouchet’s ninth league goal this term and one from Jack Cripps were enough to overturn substitute Mohammed Sesay’s strike and go five points clear in seventh, with one match remaining on May 22nd – a trip to Epping Town. Sports stay fifth but their chances of a top-two finish appear slim, despite having three matches remaining – and they welcome Corinthians to Cupid’s next weekend.
Finally, Rochford Town drew 1 – 1 with Ryan, with Freddie Pettitt getting the goal for Town. Ryan have four matches remaining, two of those against the top two sides so realistically, the best they can hope for is a seventh-placed finish which would be creditable for Declan Murphy’s team.
EOFL Division Three
This was quite a day in Division Three. Firstly, Hutton Res gave the title race added impetus as they fought back to win 3 – 2 at leaders ACD Utd. An OG and a Jamie Alexandrou strike put Michael Wade’s team in command but Bill Stratford’s side turned it around through strikes from Jim Gardner, Mike Cason and Jack Shaw and made it seven straight league wins as well. The visitors stay third, but are only two points away from the leaders, who have three matches remaining.
Manford Way Res are also right in the chase for elevation, after a 4 – 0 win over Toby Res at Ford’s Social Club in Newbury Park. David Hornsby took his goal tally past twenty for the league season with a treble here, with Jake Muller also on target. Manford’s second side are a point behind the leaders in second spot, with two matches remaining. It’s worth noting that Points Per Game (PPG) might also be a factor in which sides get promoted in the close season. Hullbridge Sports A picked up a hard-fought 1 – 0 win at Collier Row, which all but ends Row’s chances of a top-two finish. William Bray got the only goal to reduce the deficit between the sides to one point. The youthful Sports side in 7th and Row are in sixth.
Elsewhere, Basildon Town Reserves are three points clear now in fifth after a 3 – 0 success against Leigh Town Res at Basildon Sports Club. Jamie Simpkins’ brace and one from replacement Shaun Watkins were enough to give Richard Bennett’s side the points. Wakebury are also still in contention for that top-two finish as they battled to a 4 – 1 victory at Buckhurst Hill Res. A brace from Charlie Little plus goals from Billy Bonham-Dare and Harry Kateley made sure Matt Cardy’s side picked up the win against a side which certainly earned the visiting manager’s respect. Jason Gomes got the sole goal for the home side. The Berries stay fourth and realistically need at least two of the three sides above them to slip up but they have still had a great campaign to date, regardless of the outcome.
Also, Corinthians Res held Lakeside Utd to a creditable 2 – 2 draw in Stambridge. Utd remain in eighth place after their first draw this term. The hosts remain in tenth after a difficult campaign.

EOFL Premier Division
In the top-tier, Buckhurst Hill extended their lead at the top of the table to seven points now after a 4 – 0 home win over Shenfield AFC. Tyler Dolan netted a treble, two of which were from the penalty spot and substitute Callum Ibe also netted again to leave Mark Williams’ needing two more wins to secure the title again this term. Basildon Town were held 0 – 0 by a gallant Harold Wood Athletic at Basildon Sports Club. Two more victories should be enough to secure second spot for Marcus Bowers’ side, given that their nearest rivals have too much to do to overhaul them. Leigh Ramblers got a comfortable 2 – 0 win at Rayleigh Town with Daniel Williams and Sam Mountstephens getting the goals to take player-manager Ronnie Bridges’ side up to third in the table. In other action this weekend, Bishop’s Stortford Swifts continued their superb recent run with a 2 – 1 victory at Catholic Utd. Gabriel Odili and Darren Phillips both struck to send Billy Cove’s side up to fifth spot. Dan Trenkel netted for the ‘Super Hoops’ but they drop to fourth as the race for a top four spot intensifies. Hutton drop to sixth despite a 2 – 2 draw at home to Canning Town. Will Marlowe and replacement Alfie Curelli both scored for Matt Singh’s side but one point out of six from their two recent matches with Canning has hit them hard. Town drop to 11th due to Kelvedon Hatch grabbing another three points, defeating bottom side Old Southendian 2 – 1 at New Hall. Lewis Caplin netted for OS but Kyle Asante and Ryan Scott scored here to see Hatch rise up to tenth. And finally for this division, Sungate grabbed a 2 – 1 win at Springfield, despite Jake Clarke netting for Dan Williams’ team. ‘Gate remain seventh and are looking up at the top five while the Arun Park side remain in 12th.
EOFL Division One
Moving into Division One, and runaway leaders Ongar Town really had to battle hard to win 2 – 1 at Shoebury Town. Jack Zielinski and substitute Aaron Blair got the goals for Richard Ponsford’s side while Dominic Binns responded for Town who showed that they were more than able to compete here with arguably the best team in the division. Galleywood remain second after a tight 1 – 0 win over Toby at Moulsham Sch 3G. Thomas Watling got the only goal of the game to keep ‘Wood eight points a point clear of Runwell Sports who move up to third, after battling to a superb 5 – 2 win over Manford Way at St Luke’s Park. Daniel Okah grabbed a treble here, with Martin Llewellyn notching a brace for Jason Plom’s side. This result leaves Manford down in fourth and work still to do to finish in the top two places. Snaresbrook held Old Chelmsfordians 1 – 1 at Nutters Field, with Ryan Barker-Francis the hero for Rob Caine’s side and they drop to seventh.
Elsewhere, Chingford Athletic continued their rise up the standings with a 3 – 0 win over second-bottom Herongate Athletic at Town Mead. Michael Mignot, Sam Coe and Olu Oyewobi all struck to secure the win which takes them up to sixth spot – only five points adrift of second spot. Ramsden Scotia also won this weekend, 4 – 0 against Rayleigh Town Res which sent them up to eighth place.
EOFL Division Two
There were changes in Division Two this weekend as Leigh Town managed to avert disaster and make a fine comeback to draw 2 – 2 at nearest rivals Beacon Hill Rovers. The result keeps Town a point clear of Rovers at the summit. Wakering Sports went back up to fifth spot after a fine 3 – 0 win at Corinthians, with Aaron Clark, Ben Burrows and Takundwa Maosa getting the goals for Mitchell Gleeson’s side. The Stambridge-based side remain third, but are only a solitary point clear of fourth-placed Epping Town who emerged with a big 5 – 0 win at Harold Wood Athletic Res. Peter Paoletti struck twice here for Town, with George Spillane, Joe Rickett and Connor Corrigan also netting for Stuart Hoskins’ side.
Meanwhile, Laindon Orient were held 0 – 0 by Ryan at Wadham Lodge, though it is a testament to how tight the top six is that Orient are still only two points off second-placed Beacon Hill. Old Southendian Ressies are the ‘best of the rest’ in seventh as they comprehensively won 7 – 0 at May & Baker A. George Burley netted twice for player-boss Josh Bambury’s team, plus a hefty supporting cast of Nico Dubouchet, Jack Pagett, Ryan Kelly, Nathan Dauncey and replacement Lewis Bickford all also netted. Also, Rochford Town held improving AS Rawreth to a 2 – 2 draw at the Rochford Rec. Club stalwart Freddie Pettitt got both goals for the hosts as they went back up to ninth place.
EOFL Division Three
In Division Three, the top four sides all won. Wakebury remain in third place after a superb 5 – 2 win at Lakeside Utd. Billy Bonham-Dare’s brace, along with strikes from Will Wheeler, Adam Topley and club stalwart Chris Gore’s strike from twelve yards were enough to give Matt Cardy’s side the win and have now scored 45 goals this term, the most in the division at this point. ACD Utd also won, albeit narrowly winning 1 – 0 at Buckhurst Hill Res thanks to Paul Mangan’s strike to retain their four point cushion at the summit. Hill’s second side remain ninth. Manford Way Res had to battle hard for a 3 – 2 win at Toby Res, thanks largely to scorers David Hornsby, Charlie Parish and replacement Dominic Esty-Wilkinson to keep their four point lead over their nearest rivals Wakebury & Hutton Ressies.
Elsewhere, Hutton Res made it five straight wins with a 3 – 1 triumph over Hullbridge Sports A at Hannakins Farm Centre. Joseph Darby struck again for the visitors, but two goals for Matthew Price and Jack Shaw’s 11th league goal of the campaign meant that Bill Stratford’s side stay in fourth. The youthful Hullbridge side stay in seventh spot. Also, Collier Row got back to winning ways with a 2 – 1 success over Leigh Town Res at the Forest Row Centre. Tehm Vapiwala got the solitary goal for the visitors who remain without a point in eleven games now.
Finally, Corinthians Reserves were unable to contest their match with Basildon Town Res set for Basildon Sports Club which means Town get the points and remain fifth in the table.
