Hello & welcome to the latest Essex Olympian League column, looking at the action in all divisions & Cups from Saturday 8 April, with important results coming in Premier, and Divisions One & Four.

EOFL Premier Division

In the top-tier, Kelvedon Hatch got the big result at the bottom, as they edged to a 1 – 0 win over Shenfield AFC, which sends them five points clear of the bottom two. Springfield were held 1 – 1 by Runwell Sports, as Jamie Philbrick came off the bench to score for Sports, but a corker from Harry Kateley levelled the match & means Matt Cardy’s team are also five points clear of second-bottom Bishop’s Stortford Swifts, who drew 4 – 4 with Toby in a fabulous match at Silvey Leys. Albert Perry’s double allied with strikes by Luke Jones & Jonathan Packer were cancelled out by goals from Lewis Piggott, Igor Sani, Billy Turner & Ryan Stewart but Swifts have five games left to preserve their Step 7 status. Other results saw Canning Town hold Old Southendian 1 – 1 in Beckton, plus Leigh Ramblers defeated Catholic Utd 2 – 0 to send them up to fifth. Sungate also added to Galleywood’s woes as they won 3 – 0 at Slades Lane, which puts them 7th.

The other game saw the top-two face off at Thames Road. Rayleigh Town drew 1 – 1 with Hutton, with Philip Anunwa netting for Town in that one. Hutton remain seven points clear at the summit, they have six games left while Town have eight games left to play in the next four weeks or so.

EOFL Divisions One & Two

Moving into Division One now, and Harold Wood Athletic grabbed a 2 – 1 win in their local derby at Harold Hill. James Pottle & Alfie Terry both scored to send Ath back to the summit by a point. Hill remain second-bottom. Old Chelmsfordians are up to second place following a 3 – 1 success at home to Epping Town. Chris Gormley scored for the visitors but a double for Liam Landers & one for Billy Duke send the OC’s up to 2nd on goal difference. Epping remain fourth but are effectively out of the promotion race now. Lastly in this division, Beacon Hill Rovers got a fine 3 – 1 victory at ACD Utd. Josh Jones, Jack Walker & Ben Prentice all scored for Rovers, outdoing Jamie Alexandrou’s reply for Utd, who drop to 7th as Rovers rise up to sixth.

Just one game in Division Two to note, which saw Harold Wood Athletic Res power to a 7 – 3 win over Old Southendian Res. There were doubles for Freddy Shepherd & Kieran Moynihan here, with James Jenkins, Nazarij Bilanovszkij & Jerry Nkoy also on target to send Wood back up to fourth spot. The OS side will end their term second-bottom as this was their last game here.

EOFL Divisions Three, Four & Five

Division Three saw one game played, as the battle of two of the promotion rivals saw Leigh Town Res draw 2 – 2 with Pitsea Athletic at John Burrows Rec. Liam Wragg & replacement Zack Walker netted to keep them second, needing a point in their last game to seal that place. Pitsea are third & have to win both their remaining matches to try and deny their opposition here. Basildon Town Res will be the Champions, as their match at Hullbridge Res was an away walkover.

In Division Four, Roydon remain second, level on points with the leaders after a 3 – 2 victory at Herongate Athletic Res. Nader Benzid was the hat-trick hero for the visitors, outdoing goals from Habeeb Apatira & Jordan Lewis. Leigh Ramblers Res remain top after a 4 – 0 win over bottom side Leytonstone Utd, who need at least two wins to stay up. Wakering Sports A got a important 1 – 0 triumph at Galleywood Res to go four points clear of the bottom two. Also, Ongar Town got another good win, as they comfortably defeated Shenfield AFC Res 5 – 0 at Marks Hall. Finlay Cook & replacement Billy Welch both netted two goals here, with Max Galati getting the other goal, to give Ongar a six-point cushion in sixth.

Lastly this week, in Division Five, Basildon Town A maintained their hopes of promotion with a 4 – 1 victory at champions Manford Way Res. Aaron Clements netted for the hosts, but Donnel Kujinga’s brace here took him to 23 league goals in the race for the division’s top scorer, along with goals for Billy Falco & Luke Soley. A win for Bas in their last game in two weeks’ time will be enough to overhaul Runwell Res & claim second spot. Elsewhere, Canning Town Res won 3 – 1 at bottom side AS Rawreth Res to rise up to sixth place.

There is a game set for Easter Monday: Galleywood v Catholic Utd in Premier (1pm KO at Slades Lane) & there are two midweek games set (subject to change) for this week on Wednesday (12th Apr) night.

Hello & welcome to another edition of the Essex Olympian League round-up. This week on Saturday 26 November, we look at the action in all divisions, plus an extra section on the various Cup competitions this weekend.

EOFL Senior Cup

This week we again start with the League Senior Cup. Shenfield AFC progressed with a 4 – 0 victory at local rivals Kelvedon Hatch. Jack Panons struck twice for AFC here, plus Alex Tredgett & Ben Absolon also scored at New Hall. Old Chelmsfordians joined them there after a comprehensive 6 – 1 victory over Beacon Hill Rovers at Lawford Lane.

EOFL Premier Division

In the top-tier this week, Hutton‘s incredible lead at the summit now stands at twelve points after a battling 1 – 0 success at home to Springfield. Luke Ricketts got the only goal for Matt Singh’s side at Chadfields. Rayleigh Town lost ground on the top two after they drew 3 – 3 with Runwell Sports at London Road. Jack Long’s fine treble was not enough to provide the win as strikes by Charlie Little, Oliver Williamson and an OG meant Runwell claimed a point, which keeps them eighth. Leigh Ramblers made it two home wins in consecutive weeks, without conceding a goal after a 3 – 0 victory over Canning Town, who remain second. Strikes by Andrew Webster, Tom Franks & Jamie Skinner meant Mark Hunter’s team rose to fourth spot. The other game saw Old Southendian defeat Bishop’s Stortford Swifts 2 – 1 at Garon Park 3G. Mitchell Ali’s double took them to four straight wins & up to sixth spot. Joe Holt got the reply for Neil Bell’s team.

EOFL Divisions One & Two

Herongate Athletic are up to seventh in the second-tier, after a 2 – 1 home win against Manford Way. Thomas Lambourne & Robbie Allen’s penalty secured the points for Joe Nightingill’s side. In the other game, Corinthians got a major win, as they won 4 – 2 at ACD Utd, which took Chris Stoneham’s team up to third.

In Division Two, Shoebury Town’s lead at the summit fell to five points after a 2 – 2 draw with Catholic Utd Res at Ekco Sports Club. Jack Woodham & Alex Jenkins got the goals for the hosts, but strikes by Daniel Williams & Thomas Elliott meant Utd left with a point, which takes them up to ninth. May & Baker EOFL are five points clear in sixth spot after a 1 – 0 success at home to Hutton Res, with George Stanbrook again on target for Josh Lowbridge’s team. Finally in this division, Hashtag Utd Development are up to second place after a conclusive 9 – 0 triumph against AS Rawreth at Barleylands. Samuel Pratt & Jay Knight both netted doubles for Denis Simpson’s team, with a further ensemble cast of Matthew Gauci, Charlie Simpson, Tony Stevens, Thomas Matthew & substitute Jake Smith all also adding further goals for the Tags’ side.

EOFL Divisions Three, Four & Five

In the fourth-tier, the top two faced each other at Basildon Sports Club, with leaders Basildon Town Res extending their lead to five points after defeating Hullbridge Sports Res 3 – 1. Keith King netted two goals for Bas, with Harry Cowlbeck getting the other. Substitute George Mole netted for the visitors. Third-placed Leigh Town Res are now level on points with Hullbridge after they won 3 – 2 against Buckhurst Hill U23 at John Burrows Rec. Callum Stone got a double for Josh Burrage’s side, with Chris Pope also scoring. Stefanos Ladoukakis & Harvey Woods goals for Hill made it tight but they remain in mid-table. Old Chelmsfordians Res convincingly won 9 – 1 at Corinthians Res to rise to seventh. Lastly, Pitsea Athletic are up to fourth after a 4 – 0 triumph at Springfield Res. Reece Stone scored a double for Trevor Wickens’s team, with Kwadwo Asante and Liam Jeffrey also netting.

Into Division Four now, and Ongar Town went up to seventh after a 2 – 1 victory at Shenfield AFC Res. Ethan Hook & replacement James McLean both scored for Tony West’s team. Paul Constable’s goal accounted for AFC’s reply. Leaders Roydon are still three points clear after a 3 – 1 victory at home to Bishop’s Stortford Swifts Res. Samuel Broen netted for the visitors but a double for Connor Presland plus a goal for replacement Ezra Fields. Collier Row are still second after a 5 – 0 win at Pitsea Athletic Res, while Wakering Sports A are out of the bottom two after a 3 – 0 success over Galleywood Res at Cupid’s.

In Division Five, Wakebury Res continued their decent form with a 5 – 0 triumph over AS Rawreth Res. There were doubles here for Charlie Kernott and Tommy Wolfe, with Jamie Oates also on target for Joe Creak’s side. The other game saw Canning Town Res win 3 – 1 at Sungate Res to go up to sixth.

EOFL – Saturday 24 September

EOFL Premier Division & Division One

In the top-tier, Catholic Utd remain in second after a 4 – 1 win at Kelvedon Hatch. Liam Oliver grabbed a fine treble to lead the way for Simon Thomas’ side, with Harrison Day also notching at New Hall. Sungate also got a super win, 5 – 1 at home to Springfield with Josh Addinall and Solomon Asomah both netting twice here, alongside substitute Jake Willis’ strike. Rayleigh Town remain in the early promotion race after a 2 – 0 win at Canning Town. Sonny Woodward and Philip Anunwa strikes were enough to see Paul Higgins’ side to the win, despite goalkeeper Mark Brown being sent off.

In the other results this week, Runwell Sports won 4 – 0 at Bishop’s Stortford Swifts and Leigh Ramblers were held 1 – 1 at home by Toby. Scott Clark’s goal for the Rams were cancelled out by another goal for Oliver Dingli.

In Division One, Harold Wood Athletic‘s fine start continued as they powered past Harold Hill 6 – 1 in their local derby. James Pottle netted twice, with the supporting cast of Ben Woolven, Billy Gray, Max Shepherd & Dan Spittle all also on target for John Field’s team. Herongate Athletic were held 3 – 3 by Old Chelmsfordians at St Clere’s Sch 3G. Matthew Keiller, George Godfrey and Benjamin Clarke’s spot-kick accounted for the hosts’ goals, but a brace from Joe Murphy and one from Shane Pritchardmean the OC’s left with a point. The other result this week was ACD Utd’s 1 – 1 draw with Manford Way.

EOFL Divisions Two & Three

In the Division Two matches of the week, Shoebury Town got their second consecutive victory with a hard-fought 4 – 3 win at Catholic Utd Res. Enoch Gyimah scored twice for Town, with Aaron Marshall & Takondwa Maosa also on the score-sheet. Hutton Res stayed third after a 2 – 2 draw with Rayleigh Town Res at Polo Fields. David Johnson scored both goals for the hosts, with John Hanrahan & substitute Jack Taylor levelling things up for Dave Barker’s side. May & Baker‘s EOFL side got their first win with a 3 – 0 victory at Wakebury. Darren Seymour, Jack O’Connor & an OG were enough to deny the Berries a chance to climb into the top three.

The other results were leaders Wakering Sports Res winning 2 – 0 at home to Hashtag Utd Dev at Cupid’s and AS Rawreth’s 3 – 2 success over Harold Wood Athletic Res, which sent the hosts into mid-table.

In Division Three, Buckhurst Hill U23 emerged with a 4 – 3 victory at Chingford Athletic Res at Town Mead. Bradley Croft scored a fine treble for the visitors there, with Enis Demirbala adding the other Buckhurst goal. Despite having Jack Barnes sent off and Luke Dimond bagging yet anotyer hat-trick for the hosts, the Hill development side held on to stay third in the table. Leigh Town Res also kept up their decent start with a 3 – 2 success at Corinthians Res. Tehm Vapiwala, Callum Keys and Steve Birnie all netted for Josh Burrage’s side, who ended the game with ten men after Patrick Szabo’s dismissal.

Elsewhere, Hullbridge Sports Res were denied going joint-top on goal difference as they were held 1 – 1 at strugglers Old Chelmsfordians Res. George Prentice got the important goal for the hosts at Lawford Lane, while Joe Ives replied for Hullbridge, who stay second. The other game saw Toby Res held 0 – 0 by leaders Pitsea Athletic. Both of the top two sides are still unbeaten.

EOFL Divisions Four & Five

In the solitary Division Four match, Bishop’s Stortford Swifts Res got a decent 2 – 0 victory at Ongar Town. Goals from Lewis Wake and David Falzon meant the visitors leapt into mid-table.

In Division Five, Manford Way Res went up to fourth spot after a 2 – 1 home victory over Wakebury Res. Luke Bennett notched two goals here to outdo Luke Abbott’s reply for Joe Creak’s side. Epping Town Res got their first win of the season afs they defeated AS Rawreth Res 3 – 2 at Roding Valley Sch 3G. Joe Bothwell scored twice for the hosts, which Paranveer Sethi added a third for Epping. Lucas Winzar kept up his decent scoring record by scoring both goals for the Rawreth second-side. The other result saw Canning Town Res win 3 – 0 at home against Shoebury Town Res.

Essex Premier Cup R1

So the EPC had one more fixture this week with Shenfield AFC winning 3 – 1 at Basildon Town Res. Jack Shaw, Aaron Lang and Alfie MacKay all netted here for the visitors as they progressed.

Essex Junior Cup

In the Junior Cup, Roydon put up a strong fight but are out after a 4 – 3 loss at Sheering after extra time. Connor Presland scored twice for the EOFL side, with Nicholas Costagliola adding the other strike but a double for Matt Coe, plus goals from Jordan King & Dan Bryant saw the hosts through. Galleywood Res are also through after a 2 – 0 triumph at South Woodham Ferrers Utd. Diogo Viveiros & Ashley Merritt both netting there.

Hello & welcome to the round-up from the fourth week of action in the Essex Olympian League season. This week on Saturday 3 September, we look at the action in the top four divisions in-focus, with a round-up from Divisions Four & Five.paigns here.

EOFL Premier Division

The Premier Division begins with a fabulous 6 – 1 win for Rayleigh Town at Bishop’s Stortford Swifts. Paul Higgins’ team have continued their good early season form with this big win, which saw Harry Talbot and Jack Long both score two goals each, with substitutes Sonny Woodward and Lewis Robson also finding the net. Replacement Alfie Bowen got a consolation goal for Swifts here. Catholic Utd also got a big win, despatching Galleywood 5 – 0 at the Len Forge. Aaron Baldwin & Franklin Craik both scored braces for Simon Thomas’ side, with Matt Wilson also notching to give the ‘Super Hoops’ their third consecutive win.

Also, Leigh Ramblers got a important 1 – 0 victory at Shenfield AFC, with Scott Clark getting the decisive goal for Mark Hunter’s team. At Chadfields, Hutton were held to a goal-less draw by Runwell Sports but Matt Singh’s side remain top because of their unbeaten record. Kelvedon Hatch were held 2 – 2 by Sungate at New Hall with Charlie Nichols and replacement Joe Cull getting the goals for Darren Hunt’s team.

In the match I saw live on Saturday, Canning Town made the most of a strong first-half as they won 4 – 3 at Old Southendian. Nabil Musah’s fine hat-trick allied with Napat Pattanawanitkitkul’s goal was enough to edge them to their third win of the campaign after OS came back strongly in second half through goals from Ed Gould, Jordan Faulkner and a pearler from Callum Ludlaim. EOFL Division One

In Division One, ACD Utd continued their decent season with a good 3 – 2 trimuph at Beacon Hill Rovers. Samuel Payne, Jamie Alexandrou and Shaun Goddard netted for Michael Wade’s side, but had to deal with a Rovers comeback which saw Lewis Sherwood and Bertie Whymark reply for the home side there. Epping Town got a superb 5 – 0 win at Wakering Sports, with Chris Gormley and Abdul Kamara both getting two goals apiece, while Joe Rickett contributed the other goal to add to Sports’ pain at Cupid’s Country Club.

In the other action in the division, Harold Hill defeated Herongate Athletic 2 – 1 at Noak Hill, while Corinthians were held 2 – 2 by Harold Wood Athletic. Bailey Moss got both goals for the hosts with James Pottle’s goal and another Billy Gray spot-kick giving John Field’s team a share of the points at Stambridge Memorial Ground, Ath also remain top.

EOFL Divisions Two & Three

In Division Two, Shoebury Town began their campaign with a 2 – 1 victory at Harold Wood Athletic Res. Kian Bradshaw & Dominic Walton got the goals for Garry Johnson & John Galley’s side, though Charlie Portway did get an added-time reply for Wood at Harold Wood Rec. Hutton Res also triumphed this weekend, as goals from David Johnson and Jonathan Hillard saw them to a 2 – 0 win at AS Rawreth to join a chorus of four teams on six points at the summit.

Hashtag Utd Development were also in action and got a important 2 – 1 success over Wakebury at Barleylands. Chandler Wray got both goals in the first half for the Tags’ youth side to render Harry Kateley’s goal in response a consolation for Matt Cardy’s team. In the other match in Division Two, Wakering Sports Res narrowly defeated May & Baker EOFL 3 – 2 at Cupid’s to continue their decent start to the season.

Moving now into Division Three, Basildon Town Res got a 2 – 1 victory at Toby Res, with Joshua Hales scoring both goals at the Nursery Sports Ground. Pitsea Athletic lead the table at this very early stage after a 4 – 0 win at home to Corinthians Res at Basildon Sports Club. The ensemble cast of scorers fir the hosts were Precious Aminu, Kwadwo Asante, Emmanuel Ampaabeng and substitute Joshua Ledger.

Also, Collier Row got a 2 – 0 success at Leytonstone Utd in the ‘Forest Row derby’. Buckhurst Hill U23 are still unbeaten after three matches and reside in second spot after drawing 1 – 1 with Leigh Town Res at Roding Lane. Substitute Divine Ngonye netted for Buckhurst’s developmental side there.

Lastly in Division Three, Springfield Res were held to an entertaining 3 – 3 draw with Hullbridge Sports Res at Chelmer Valley School. Jay Knight got two goals for Jason Mole’s side, plus Harry Mole also netted but it was not enough to get the points.

Essex Olympian Lge – Saturday 2 April

EOFL Premier Division, Divisions One & Two

In the Premier Division, Rayleigh Town got the big win this weekend to stay in the title hunt, as they got a 3 – 1 triumph over rivals Hutton at London Road. Will Baldry, Liam Oliver and Harry Talbot all netted for Paul Higgins’ side as they stayed second. Stephen Judge got the reply for the visitors. Elsewhere, Basildon Town remain third after a 3 – 1 victory over Kelvedon Hatch at Gardiners Lane. The trio of Graham Harrison, Rhys Fatt and James O’Brien got the goals for Marcus Bowers’ team there. They still have two games in hand on the top two with a four point deficit to make up. Sidney Walker netted for Kelvedon , who are in fifth spot. Leaders Ongar Town remain three points clear at the summit after a 5 – 1 success at bottom side Harold Wood Athletic. Joe Lilly netted twice for Richard Ponsford’s side here, with Harry Rawlins, Brandon Wood and an OG accounting for the other goals. Max London responded for Ath but they have six games left to overhaul a nine point deficit to third-bottom Galleywood. Speaking of Galleywood, they got a big 2 – 1 victory at Shenfield AFC, with Harry Bond and Tyler Tredgett netting for ‘Wood there.

Also, Leigh Ramblers got a massive three points by overcoming Old Southendian 3 – 0 at Belfairs. George Moxon, Tom Franks and Ryan Lowe (on his 200th appearance for the club) all netted for Mark Hunter’s team here. They have four games left to gather as many points as possible as all the sides below them have matches in hand on them. OS remain seventh. Finally, Catholic Utd had goals from Tom Elliott and replacement Joe O’Kane to thank for a 2 – 0 success at home to Bishop’s Stortford Swifts, which keeps them in sixth spot and a chance of a top-five finish. Swifts remain tenth.

In Division One, the only match was a big one which saw Epping Town grab a 3 – 2 triumph at rivals Beacon Hill Rovers, thanks to a fine treble by Joe Rickett. The win takes Epping six points clear of the bottom two. Rovers will need at least one win from their last two matches to avoid a bottom-two finish.

Moving into Division Two now, Hutton Res drew 1 – 1 with AS Rawreth in a big battle at the bottom of the division. Both teams remain in the bottom three, with Rawreth having one more match to play. There was a walkover win for Manford Way also, over bottom side Rochford Town which saw them rise back up to third spot. It’s worth noting also that all of the top four sides have three matches remaining.

EOFL Divisions Three, Four & Five

Into Division Three, Hashtag Utd Dev took a big step towards the title with a huge 10 – 1 triumph at Toby Res. The ensemble cast of goal-scorers for Denis Simpson’s included doubles for Shaun Warren, Matthew Gauci and Josh Jarvis with Samuel Pratt, Chandler Wray, Jake Smith and Bradley Bunker all adding one each to take them to the top, with three matches left. Also, Hullbridge Sports Res drew 3 – 3 with Corinthians Res at Lower Road. Jay Knight got two goals for Sports here, with Owen Barrett also scoring for the hosts.

Moving into Division Four, Springfield Res got a important 3 – 1 victory over Leytonstone Utd to remain second, with two games in hand on nearest rivals Ongar Town Res, who also got three points after a 2 – 1 victory at Southend Manor Dev, in a match played at Cupid’s. Hudson Lawrence scored for Manor’s side there. Elsewhere, Old Chelmsfordians Res secured a 3 – 2 win at home to Galleywood Res, thanks to Timothy King who struck two twice for OC’s second side, with Shane Pritchard also finding the net. Oliver Sadler and Lee Judd responded for the visitors but they remain third-bottom. There are as many as four teams who could finish in second spot and the OC side and Roydon have the most matches left (four each) to play.At the bottom, Canning Town Res rounded out their campaign with a 3 – 1 win at home to Shenfield AFC Res, to record their second win this term but it is most likely they will still finish bottom of the table.

In Division Five, Old Barkabbeyans drew 4 – 4 with top four side Herongate Athletic Res at Barking Abbey. The point means the hosts go up to sixth, but this was their last match of the season so they could yet be caught by the two teams immediately below them in the standings. Herongate have two matches left. There was a walkover win for Bishop’s Stortford Swifts Res as well over Runwell Sports Res, which sent Swifts top by two points and ended the Runwell team’s season, in which they will finish fifth.

S21-22 Round-ups: Essex Olympian League (Sat 21 Aug) [EOFL 21/22 22.8.21]

Hello & welcome to this week’s Essex Olympian League round-up, rounding-up the second week of action of the 2021-22 campaign. We look back at the top four divisions plus the results from Divisions Four Five.

I would like to dedicate this week’s edition to the memory of local Grassrooots legend Robert Hutchings-Spiller, who was remembered by a number of EOFL clubs with a minute’s silence or applause before their matches (Lead Picture from Catholic Utd v Springfield this weekend giving thrir tribute pre-match).

EOFL Premier Division

In the Premier Division, Basildon Town made it two wins from two matches with a 5 – 0 victory over Leigh Ramblers in a match moved back to the Basildon Sports Club. Rhys Fatt got another double here, with Keanu Hill, Grant Cumming and Jamie Bradbourn also on the score-sheet for Marcus Bowers’ team. Elsewhere, Old Southendian are also in possession of a 100% early record after a fine 3 – 1 win at Hutton. Craig Paton hit two goals here for Altar Ali’s side, with Nick Henesy also on target for OS. Stephen Judge struck again for Matt Singh’s side in this one.

In the match I attended at the Len Forge Centre, Catholic Utd got back into form with a big 6 – 0 win over Springfield. Franklin Craik netted four good goals for Simon Thomas’ side, with Pablo Passenda and John Nutman also netting for the hosts. Also in the top-tier, Galleywood got their first win of the season with a 3 – 2 triumph at Canning Town, thanks to a double from Thomas Watling and one from Matthew Buckingham. Ongar Town also made it two wins from as many matches as they defeated Harold Wood Athletic 4 – 0 at Lakeside Sports Ground with Frankie Goodhall, Freddie Frazer and replacements Ayodele Awosika and Rodney Wilson all on the score-sheet for Richard Ponsford’ side.

EOFL Division One

Moving now into the second-tier, and Runwell Sports got their first win under player-boss Rob Hodgson as they defeated Toby 4 – 2. Charlie Little netted a fine first-half hat-trick, before Hodgson himself netted for his side. Chris Rowland and Albert Perry scored for Mark Jones’ team here. Beacon Hill Rovers recovered from last week’s defeat by winning 2 – 1 at home to Snaresbrook, George Davis and Jack Renwick netting for Stephen Bennett’s side here.

Herongate Athletic have two wins from two after a 1 – 0 win at manager Billy Cove’s former club Epping Town. Robbie Farrell got his third goal in eight days which ended up deciding the match. Corinthians started their campaign with a creditable 2 – 2 draw with Old Chelmsfordians at Stambridge. Jake Hodder got both goals for Chris Stoneham’s team here, while Matthew Crick and Thomas Holdstock netter for the OC’s. Finally for this division, Wakering Sports are also unbeaten after a fine 3 – 2 win over Leigh Town in an emotional game at Cupid’s. Russell Beck, Matt Wilson and Aaron Marshall were all on target for Mitchell Gleeson’s team.

EOFL Division Two

In Division Two, Harold Hill got their first win back as an EOFL club with a 3 – 1 success over May & Baker A at Noak Hill. Jack Suters got two goals here, with Peter Tyler also scoring for Mark Ellis’ team. Old Southendian Reserves began their season with a fine 4 – 1 win against AS Rawreth at Garon Park. Nico Dubouchet nabbed a double here, with Thomas Adams and Sam Jones also on target for Josh Bambury’s side.

Elsewhere in the division, Wakebury began their season with a 2 – 0 win over Rayleigh Town Res at their new home of Nursery Sports Ground. Debutants Harrison Grant and ex-Corinthians Reserves forward Max Hall scored for Matt Cardy’s side. Also, Harold Wood Athletic Res drew 1 – 1 with Hutton Res with Ben Rowe scoring for Steve Hubbard’s side and Harry Lane levelling for Bill Stratford’s visitors.

EOFL Division Three

Finallly for this week, in Division Three, there was a first win of the new term for Basildon Town Res as they defeated Pitsea Athletic 2 – 1 in the late game this week. Andrew Edmunds and Jack Main were the scorers in this win for the Town second-side. Reece Stone replied for the EOFL newcomers. Hullbridge Sports Res also won, 4 – 3 against Corinthians Res at Lower Road. Joseph Darby netted twice for Jason Mole’s team. Bobby Badnall and Harry Mole also netted for the hosts, whilst Jay Knight, Sam Halsey and an OG contributed to the goals for Ben Adams’ side.

Meanwhile, they were wins for three other teams as Toby Res defeated Leigh Town Res 5 – 2 thanks to a brace from Oliver Dingli and goals from Lee Hill, Graham Knight and substitute Charlie Ross. Wakering Sports Res won 5 – 2 at Hashtag Utd Development with Daryl Cooper, Connor Fardyga, Ciaran Sweeney, David Watson and Scott Clark all on the ensemble cast of scorers for Sports. Harry Braysher and Kai Warren both replied for Utd. Lastly, goals from Dominic O’Kane and Joe O’Kane saw Catholic Utd Res to a 2 – 1 win at Collier Row.

Season Review 2019-20: Essex Olympian League Division Four [EOFL SR 19/20 22.4.20]

Hello and welcome to the first of a mini-series of blog articles looking back at the ‘void’ Season 2019-20, as deemed by the FA. Sufficed to say, I felt it was important to mark what’s been another fascinating campaign in the Essex Olympian League, Essex Senior League & Eastern Senior League South (leagues I’ve watched mostly this season just gone).

Anyway, we begin the series with a look at Division Four, including an array of statistics compiled from the EOFL FA Full-Time website including top goalscorers & top appearance makers in the League fixtures. Thanks for reading.

EOFL Division Four (as of season cut-off point of March 14th 2020)

As with all the EOFL divisions, the season was halted in mid-March 2020 before eventually being curtailed several weeks later. At that point, Roydon took advantage of a fine run of six wins from their last eight matches to get themselves to the top of the standings, with 39 points from their 15 unbeaten matches played. Ten of those matches were at home and the North West Essex side won eight of them, drawing the other two. They also were the best ‘Entertainers’ in the division this term, scoring 67 goals at an average of 4.46 Goals per game (GpG).

Their nearest rivals in second spot were former leaders Chingford Athletic Development, who if I recall correctly were a new side in the EOFL this season, supporting the club to begin a pathway for the first team (who played in Senior One this term) for players. The Ath ‘second-side’ amassed 38 points from their 19 matches, scoring 61 goals in the process (the second best in the division) and having three entrants in the Top Goalscorers listing but more on that later.

Ongar Town Reserves finished in third spot after a mixed campaign, with 28 points from their 17 matches. Five of their nine wins came away from home interestingly though it is also worth noting that only six of those 17 games were at home. A leaky defence arguably stopped them from being nearer the top two at the cut-off point, though it is certainly a campaign to build on next term.

Next, three clubs all on 27 points with goal difference proving decisive in separating them. In fourth spot are Wakering Sports Reserves, having won eight of their 16 matches and having a better defence than their nearest rivals. Forest Glade also ended on 27 points though ended up fifth, because of inferior (and zero) goal difference. They won eight of their 19 matches in total, though had a better second half of the campaign as they rose up the mid-table spots. Catholic Utd’s Reserve side finished in sixth, also on 27 points though because a negative goal difference dragged them down. Continuing the mantra of the first team somewhat, the ‘second-side’ scored 52 goals and conceded 58, the second worst defence in the division. Also, five of their eight wins at their home pitch at the Len Forge Centre [3G].

There lays a gap of seven points before we reach the bottom half sides. Firstly, Galleywood Reserves are in seventh spot, having won six of their 14 matches to end on 20 points. A hard-earned quirk of their season is that they have the fourth best defensive record in the division, with 26 goals conceded. Only three of the top four sides are above them in terms of having a more miserly defensive record. Leytonstone Utd are a point behind them in eighth place, having grabbed six wins from their 15 matches which isn’t bad going when you factor in they were the second weakest in terms of scoring goals in Division Four in 2019-20. Laindon Orient Reserves are just behind in ninth spot, with six wins and nine losses from their 15 matches. Unfortunately, the O’s second-side do have that poorest goal-scoring record this term, along with the third-worst defence. Club Chairman Neil Blackburn will hope for better next term, you feel.

Rounding off the division are Old Chelmsfordians Reserves (10th, 17 points from 15 matches), Shenfield AFC Reserves (11th, 12 points from 16 games) and lastly, Canning Town Reserves who amassed two wins from their 18 matches to end up with ten points, whilst also conceding sixty goals, the worst in the division.

Hello & welcome to another of my round-up pieces, this time looking at the Essex Olympian League action on Saturday 30 March, from the top tier to the results from Division Four as the season run-in continues.
EOFL Premier Division
In Olympian Premier, the stand-out result was Catholic Utd’s 6 – 2 success over faltering Bishop’s Stortford Swifts at the Len Salmon. Aaron Baldwin and Tom Hollingsworth both grabbed braces here with Jamie Salmon and Max Kent also netting to see the ‘Super Hoops’ rise above their opponents into fourth spot. The most important result though came at Roding Lane where Buckhurst Hill squeezed past Leigh Ramblers 2 – 1. Andrew Webster struck for the Rams though goals from Sam Sollosi and talisman Steve Townsend secured a huge win which means in all likelihood Hill will not be passed and therefore will be crowned Premier Division champions next month. Leigh stay 7th and are winless in their last four.

Meanwhile, Harold Wood Athletic defeated fellow high-flyers Kelvedon Hatch 1 – 0, thanks to the ever-reliable Robert Whitnell getting on the score-sheet in Ath’s final league match this term. Hatch only need a maximum of five points to secure the runners-up spot with only Swifts in position to deny them. In South Essex, Rayleigh Town drew 2 – 2 with Springfield, with Joe Mayer and Jack Mundy strikes for the visitors being cancelled out by Damien Siemienczuk and Jack Long goals for Town, who have secured a top-six finish this term. Credit to them. Springfield can still slip into the top ten but will need to better Sungate’s result in the latter’s last match of the campaign.

As we ,mention the ‘Gate, Old Southendian held them 0 – 0 at Garons Park, which means OS only remain above them on goal difference due to them both having identical records (8 wins, 5 draws, 12 losses in 25 matches).

EOFL Senior One

On an action-packed day in Senior One, leaders Shenfield AFC roared to a 5 – 1 win over challengers Basildon Town to extend their cushion over them to 14 points. Mitchell Day’s double, plus strikes by James Bigmore, George Cunningham and Harry Hatt overcame a solitary consolation by Jamie Miller for Town. The ramifications of this result means that even with six matches yet to play, Town’s chances of winning the title are slim. AFC have struck eight wins in their last nine matches and that is promotion-winning form, you must say.

FC Hamlets are still in the promotion hunt after a thumping 6 – 0 win over Herongate Athletic. John Gilroy plundered a hat-trick, while Aaron Glasgow, Charlie Heatley and Ashley King were all also on target. FC have five matches to play and have lost one of their last 14 league matches. Ongar Town beat strugglers Rayleigh Town Reserves 2 – 1 thanks to a pair of Ben Polley spot-kicks and end a four-match winless run. Old Chelmsfordians’ fine end to the season continued with a 1 – 0 win at Galleywood. Sam Adams got the only goal to extend OC’s unbeaten run to seven matches whilst also ending ‘Wood’s five-match winning streak.

EOFL Senior Two

Into Senior Two now and Chingford Athletic really kept themselves in promotion nick with a 7 – 0 battering of Ryan, in what was the visitors’ last game of the campaign. Jack Yates led proceedings with a treble for Ath, while Alex Gordon grabbed two, with Luke Dimond and Jonny Hirst also finding the net to extend their unbeaten stretch to six games. Ath need eight points from their last three matches to pip Toby to the title and face fellow promotion-hunters Runwell Sports next weekend.

Runwell need to win that battle as they were held to a disappointing 3 – 3 draw at basement side May & Baker ‘A’. Ernest Dunlop, Marcellino Rodrigues and Gyane Sanderson all struck for the hosts, while Declan Carke fired back two of the goals for Sports here though one win in their last five leaves their hopes of elevation in jeopardy.

EOFL Senior Three

We start Senior Three with a massive win for Laindon Orient, 7 – 0 at Basildon Town Reserves. Samuel Lake led the scorer’s chart with two to take his tally to 18 this season with Jason Warner, Michael Agba, Jasper Read, Rodney Sarah-Wilson and Henry Ballard all getting their names on the same sheet. Orient go top thanks to their vastly superior goal difference though have ended their campaign now. Bas remain third-bottom with three matches left.

Former leaders Westhamians were held 0 – 0 at Leigh Town, though have two matches remaining to be one of four possible winners of the division. The other two challengers faced each there at Cupids, though Wakering Sports lost at home, 5 – 2 to Old Southendian Reserves. Tom Judge and Dave Stubbs both nabbed a double each and Oliver Tatton-Bennett also notched here. The OS’ second-side know victory in both of their last two matches will seal the title.

EOFL Senior Four

Finally, in Senior Four, the top two were both in action. Epping Town won 2 – 0 at Galleywood Reserves to heap the pressure on rivals Corinthians. Lennox Forster and Alex Paraskeva got the goals, with Paraskeva hitting 25 goals for the season in Town’s last match here.

Lakeside Reserves held Corinthians 4 – 4 in an epic encounter. The hosts were in command after David Alele struck twice, plus Ben Christie and Damilola Olusanya also notched. However, the Stambridge-based side are a good side and once again showed their mettle as a brace of Leo Clarke strikes and Theodore Cannon & Ashley Webb goals ensured they got a point. Even so, they still need to win all three of their remaining matches to win the title.

In the remaining two matches, Shenfield AFC Reserves defeated Toby Res 2 – 0 thanks to Paul Constable and Corley Ross strikes. AFC move away from the bottom three while Toby need two points to stave off the drop . Canning Town Res also moved into mid-table with a 3 – 1 success over Buckhurst Hill Res. Daniel Aworinde, Calum Newson and substitute Marcel Bayfield netted for Town as they went 6th, one place behind their opposition here.

Round-up: Essex Olympian League (Sat 26 Jan) [EOFL 27.1.19]

Hello & welcome to another of my round-up pieces, this time looking at the Essex Olympian League action on Saturday 26th January, with a firm round-up of the Premier Division, all the way to Senior Division Four. Also including results from the Essex Junior Cup action this weekend. Thanks to Scott Lanza & the clubs for the data used in this round-up.

EOFL Premier Division

In the top-tier, with the top-two of Buckhurst Hill and Kelvedon Hatch deprived of their clash due to weather, third-placed Harold Wood Athletic missed a chance to go joint-top as they lost 2 – 1 at strugglers Sungate. Bishop’s Stortford Swifts suffered no such slip-up as they edged to a 1- 0 home win over mid-table Hutton, courtesy of a Sam Cole strike. They stay fourth, five points adrift of leaders Buckhurst Hill.

The chasing pack of Leigh Ramblers and Catholic Utd both won this weekend. Leigh Ramblers fought back to win 3 – 2 over rivals Old Southendian. Nick Henesy’s brace for OS was outdone by strikes by Justin Hazell, Luke Read and Andrew Webster as Leigh went 5th. Catholic Utd are only a point behind them in 6th, thanks to a 7 – 2 home success over out-of-form Springfield. Aaron Baldwin led the ‘Super Hoops’ scorers with a brace, while Simon Thomas, Jamie Salmon, player-boss Dan Trenkel, substitute Tom Hollingsworth and Tom Kearney all netted as well in Utd’s sixth win in their last seven matches.

Rayleigh Town slipped up as they lost 2 – 1 at Manford Way. Dillon Southgate’s goal for Town was outdone by strikes from Ruben Carvalho and Lee Lashley as Manford got their third straight win to cut the gap to Great Baddow to two points. Canning Town put Baddow further in the mire with a 4 – 1 success over the strugglers. Sulaiman Massaquoi got another double, which Dan Bonny and Fraser Ferguson added to give the Beckton-based side the win and stay 8th.

EOFL Senior One

Now heading into Senior One, which was headed by a terrific display by FC Hamlets in their 7 – 0 home win over mid-table Frenford Res. Charlie Heatley led the way with a hat-trick, while Faron Smith got two goals plus strikes from John Gilroy and Ajibola Orilonishe sealed their eighth win of the season which seems them remain in fifth.

Galleywood rose to seventh after a convincing 5 – 1 success at Old Chelmsfordians. Tom Lakin, Sean Lander, Jack Chatterway, Luke Osborne and Freddie Bartrum got the goals for the visitors. OC remain in the bottom two despite Martin Mixture’s solitary goal for them. Shenfield AFC won 1 – 0 at Herongate Athletic, thanks to Ben Absolon’s strike – they stay second, a point shy of leaders Snaresbrook. Ramsden Scotia got an unchallenged win, by virtue of an away walkover as May & Baker Res failed to fulfil the fixture.

EOFL Senior Two

The stand-out match in Senior Two was another goal glut for Toby in a 10 – 1 home success over out-of-form Rochford Town. Des Gallen, Justin Clarke,Ryan Morgan and James Coleman made it a four-pronged ‘brace club’ here for the hosts with Peter Spicer and Sam O’Sullivan also netting as Toby went three points clear at the summit. Lakeside defeated former pace-setters Shoebury Town 4 – 2 with Matt Bearman, Ryan Budd, Luke Quinton and the ever-reliable Drew Klessa-Smith netting. Bearman later got dismissed for the hosts but they crucially held on for the win to go above Shoebury into 5th. Meanwhile, second-placed Runwell Sports were held to a goal-less draw by Beacon Hill Rovers, who remain 3rd.

Harold Wood Athletic Res won 2 – 0 at home to strugglers Ryan as two Joe Pyne strikes were enough to send Ath’s second side level on points with Shoebury. In fairness, the top seven is separated by only eight points at present.

Chingford Athletic won at Newham Utd, courtesy of an away walkover as the hosts unfortunately couldn’t field a side I believe.

EOFL Senior Three

In Division Three, one match was blighted by weather but in three matches that did happen, 13 goals were scored. Hutton Res defeated fellow strugglers Old Chelmsfordians Res 4 – 1 at Polo Fields to rise one place to ninth. Conor O’Regan struck twice, with Chris Skingley and substitute Charlie Nichols also netting, Mikey Romaine got the consolation for OC Ressies, who are now seven points adrift at the bottom.

White Ensign Res got a good 3 -2 win at fellow mid-table side Roydon with Billy Diack, Perry Osbourne and Lewis Brown netting for Jack Caten’s side. The hosts responded through goals from Darren Williams and Ezra Folan though it wasn’t enough on this occasion.

With leaders Westhamians in cup action, Wakering Sports strengthened their hold on second spot with a 3 – 0 win at Laindon Orient….

EOFL Senior Four

Finally for this week, in Division Four the goals continued to flow – not least at Stonards Hill where Epping Town plundered eleven goals in a huge 11 – 2 win over second-placed Dagenham Utd. Liam Clifton and Glen Warwick both grabbed trebles with Alex Paraskeva adding a brace and Skirmantas Bulauka, Daniel Garfinkle and Eamon Payne also notching. Utd hit back through the division’s top scorer Jacob Dingli and Scott Gormer though Epping stay third, seven points shy of leaders Corinthians, who were held 1 – 1 by Shenfield AFC Res at the Stambridge Memorial Ground. Former Essex Alliance League player Corley Ross netted for AFC, with the proflic John Bolton-Smith got the home side’s strike.
