Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of my round-up articles, looking athe action in week four of the ‘mini-season’ in the  Essex Olympian League divisions on Saturday 24th April. As ever, our focus here is on the top four tiers, with results from Divisions Four & Five. After each division, you’ll notice an image of the updated divisional standings (Source: FA Full-Time website). Image is from Buckhurst Hill v Harold Wood Ath, taken by me. Thank you for reading.

EOFL Premier Division

Starting off in the Premier Division and Bishop’s Stortford Swifts made it five league matches unbeaten with a good 3 – 0 win over Leigh Ramblers at Silver Leys. The goal-scorers for Billy Cove’s side were Tola Odedoyin, Gabriel Odili and Chris Gibbs as they reduced the deficit to Catholic Utd in third to four points, ahead of their visit to the Len Forge next weekend. The Rams remain in fourth spot. Basildon Town remain in second after a 2 – 0 win over third-placed Catholic Utd at the Basildon Sports Club. Goals from Charlie Kendall & player-boss Marcus Bowers ensured that caretaker boss Simon Thomas’s first game in charge (after the resignation of boss Stuart Marshall last week citing work commitments) ended in defeat.

In my featured match this weekend, Buckhurst Hill pulled off a fine 5 – 0 win over Harold Wood Athletic at Roding Lane. Tyler Dolan struck twice here for Mark Williams’ side, with Jack Griggs, Nathan Sollosi and replacement Fehinti Falola all netting as well to keep Buckhurst five points clear at the summit. My report from this match is available here: https://survivor16b.wordpress.com/2021/04/24/s-20-21-match-report-buckhurst-hill-5-0-harold-wood-athletic-eofl/

Elsewhere, Rayleigh Town got a super away-day victory, 3 – 1 at Shenfield AFC with Bailey Moss, Shaun Gittleson and George Vile the scorers for Paul Higgins’ side. Town rise to ninth spot in the table while Shenfield drop to 11th. Sungate also got back to winning ways with a 2 – 0 win at Kelvedon Hatch, which sent them back up to seventh. Two of the bottom three sides met at Arun Park as Springfield were held 1 – 1 by Old Southendian. David Knight struck for Dan Williams’ side but a late leveller for OS from Lewis Caplin denied them a much-needed victory. Other results meant that OS are now bottom, while Springfield reside in 12th. Finally, Canning Town leapt off the bottom with a superb 3 – 1 win over Hutton in Beckton. Town’s third league win this term leaves them in tenth, while Hutton’s third loss on-the-rack see them stay in fifth.

EOFL Premier Division table (after April 24 action)

EOFL Division One

Moving into Division One, with perhaps the most surprising result this week being Rayleigh Town Reserves fighting back to claim a 4 – 4 draw with Old Chelmsfordians at London Road. The result means the hosts inch to a three-point cushion in tenth spot while the OC’s drop to fourth place. Leaders Ongar Town continued their sparkling form with a 7 – 0 victory over struggling Herongate Athletic at Lakeside. Aaron Blair grabbed yet another treble to move to 18 league goals this term for Ongar, with Harry Rawlins notching twice alongside singles for Frankie Goodall and Rodney Wilson. Richard Ponsford’s side now have an eight-point lead at the summit and surely won’t be caught before the end of May.

That being said, Manford Way could give it a good go as they won 6 – 2 at Shoebury Town. Tyrone Scarlett netted a superb treble to lead the way for Trevor Grace’s side here, with Jourdon Sabarouche also grabbing two goals himself. Ronnie Hobbrough got the other goal as Manford made it four wins from their last five games. Shoebury probably cannot wait to regroup in June now as they are four points adrift of Herongate at the foot of the table.

There were goals aplenty in other matches this weekend too, only the 41(!) being scored overall in the six matches in the division this weekend. Snaresbrook certainly did their bit for that tally as well with a 5 – 2 win at Toby. Daniel Tesfay got another double here for Rob Caine’s side, as Drew Barbier also notched a pair plus Ife Ogunbayo also netted from twelve yards. ‘Brook go above their hosts here into sixth and they are only three points adrift of a top-three place, such is how congested the top half of the standings are. Also, Galleywood managed a fine 3 – 0 win at Runwell Sports with Matthew Buckingham, Thomas Watling and substitute Luke Osborne all finding the net at St Luke’s Park. ‘Wood go up to third in the standings while Runwell drop to fifth.

Finally for this division, Chingford Athletic made it four games unbeaten as they won 4 – 2 at Ramsden Scotia. Michael Mignot got another double here to take his tally to nine goals in a Chingford shirt in the last month. Archie Stojic and George Miller also netted to send Lee Bowers’ side up to eighth. I wouldn’t rule them out making a late run for a top-four spot either. Scotia drop to ninth spot.

EOFL Division One Table (after April 24 action)

EOFL Division Two

On a day of movement in the top half in Division Two, Leigh Town got back to their irrepressible selves with a thundering 6 – 1 at Old Southendian Res. Brodie Horne netted another three goals here to make it to five league goals this term now. Tom Byford, Sam Irvine and Lewis Lawrence completed the ensemble cast of scorers for Jack Pearman’s side who remain a point clear at the summit, while OS Ressies remain seventh. Beacon Hill Rovers ended a three-match winless run with a 3 – 0 win at my local club Rochford Town. Bradley Morgan, Karl Swanborough and Josh Perry all struck to give Stephen Bennett’s side renewed impetus in second spot, Rochford drop to tenth.

Elsewhere, Corinthians moved into third place with a decent 2 – 0 win over Ryan at Stambridge. John Bolton-Smith and Leo Clarke provided the goals as Chris Stoneham’s side got their third straight win. Ryan remain in eighth spot, a point clear of Harold Wood Athletic Reserves who were held 1 – 1 by AS Rawreth at Harold Wood Park. Substitute Darren Wettner got the crucial goal there for the hosts as bottom side Rawreth finally got their first point of the campaign. May & Baker ‘A’ also got a fine 3 – 2 win over Laindon Orient with Nimaga Dauda notching twice for Scott Harding’s team. A known name to fans of the whole club, Carl Patten got the other goal for Bakers. Carlos Dias and an OG accounted for Laindon’s goals but this loss drops them to fourth and makes them vulnerable to being caught by both Wakering & Epping as Orient have played more matches.

Speaking of Wakering, Wakering Sports took on Epping Town this weekend at Cupid’s. A fine performance saw the hosts emerge with a 3 – 1 victory with Ben Rowe, Ben Burrows and Max Drury goals sealing a third win in succession for Mitchell Gleeson’s side. Charlie Pollard netted a late goal for Town but Wakering go above their opponents here into fifth spot.

EOFL Division Two updated Table (after April 24 action)

EOFL Division Three

In Division Three this week, leaders ACD Utd came away with a fine 3 – 2 win over Collier Row at the Forest Row Centre. Jamie Alexandrou, Connor Lambert and Jake Noble all struck for player-boss Michael Wade’s side as they extended their lead at the summit to four points. Row suffered a damaging defeat here in their own promotion ambitions and fall to sixth. ACD’s two nearest rivals also had setbacks, with Manford Way Res being held to a 1 – 1 draw at Hullbridge Sports ‘A’. Edward Hawney netted for the Lower Road developmental side, with David Hornsby notching his 18th league goal of the season to level for the visitors, who are still unbeaten in their last six matches.

Elsewhere, in the late kick-offs, Basildon Town Reserves came from behind to defeat Wakebury 2 – 1 at Basildon Sports Club. Late goals from Mark Squibb and a Scott Cooper penalty were enough to overhaul Adam Topley’s earlier goal for the Berries to give the hosts their fourth win in their last six outings. Wakebury’s three-match winning run is over and they are four points adrift in third now. Also, Toby Res were held 2 – 2 by Corinthians Res at Ford’s Sports Club in Newbury Park. The result doesn’t do much for either side as they both are in the bottom three.

Buckhurst Hill Res got a fine 4 – 1 win at home to Lakeside Utd with Harry Davison scoring for the visitors there. Buckhurst’s second-side had a brace from Louie Cooper to set them on their way to success, with Endrit Abazi and Genit Abazi both also netting here. Buckhurst’s second-side rose to ninth after this victory. Also, Hutton Res had two matches this week which heralded six points. Firstly in midweek, they defeated Collier Row 4 – 1, in a match I attended at Polo Fields, my report is available here: https://survivor16b.wordpress.com/2021/04/22/s-20-21-match-report-hutton-res-4-1-collier-row-wed-21-apr/

Meanwhile at the weekend, Hutton Res defeated Leigh Town Res 5 – 1 with Jack Shaw scoring twice, plus Carl Dutton, Thomas Price and substitute Bailey Morris were all also on target in their fourth consecutive win. Bill Stratford’s side sit fourth, level on points with Wakebury just above them in what is a tight top six (see table below).

Hello and welcome to another edition of the Essex Olympian League round-up, here on my blog, looking at the action from Saturday 26 September from the Premier Division all the way to Division Three, plus Results from Divisions Four & Five. Thanks for reading.

EOFL Premier Division

In the Premier Division, Basildon Town lead the table on goal difference after a 2 – 1 success at Canning Town in Beckton. Anthony Aylett and Grant Cumming got the goals for Marcus Bowers’ side who are only one of two sides with a 100% record thus far. Dominic Lewis responded for Canning here.

The other side is Buckhurst Hill who had to fight hard to defeat Rayleigh Town 2 – 1 at Roding Lane. Suleyman Zuhdu gave the hosts the advantage a minute before half-time. However, Paul Higgins’ half-time team-talk must have stirred the visitors as Jack Long struck a minute after the restart to level the game. And with a draw coming ever-closer to fruition, Nathan Sollosi netted three minutes from time to give Mark Williams’ side an important victory. Catholic Utd also won this week, with an impressive 3 – 0 triumph at Springfield. Second-half strikes by Aaron Baldwin, Luke Trice and Simon Thomas were enough to maintain the unbeaten start for Stuart Marshall’s side.

Two sides who got their first wins this season both won 1 – 0 away from home. Leigh Ramblers won by that score-line at winless Kelvedon Hatch, with substitute Billy Carter getting his first goal for the Rams in this win. Shenfield AFC also won 1 – 0 at Bishop’s Stortford Swifts, with Liam Snellin the goal-scoring hero for the visitors. Hutton did enough to hold Sungate to a goal-less stalemate at Polo Fields to end the visitors winning start to the season.

Finally, Old Southendian powered to a fine 5 – 1 win over Harold Wood Athletic at Garon Park. Manager Connor Lane had to play at centre-back though would have been delighted to witness the game first-hand as a brace from Mitchell Ali and strikes by Craig Paton, Sam Adcock and James Oates pushed OS to their first league win this term in some style. Dan Johnson got Harold Wood’s consolation here but their tough start to the league season continues.

EOFL Division One

In Division One, Ongar Town maintained their terrific start with a 6 – 0 win at home to Snaresbrook. Aaron Blair got another treble here, with Joshua Boxall getting two and Joe Lilly also chipped in.  This result means they have three wins from three and the only other side to achieve that thus far is Runwell Sports who edged an incredible game at Lawford Lane, where they defeated Old Chelmsfordians 6 – 5, with Martin Llewellyn & ex-Hullbridge player Daniel Okah both getting doubles. Ryan Scougall and replacement Ben Christie also netted for Jason Plom’s side.

Elsewhere, Manford Way are in third after winning 4 – 3 at Ramsden Scotia. Substitute Ryan McDonach struck twice for Ramsden, with Alex Bessant also netting but Trevor Grace’s side kept their winning start going as a brace from Kieran Smith and goals by James Odhiamba and Harry Main sent them to the three points. Toby got another good win, defeating Chingford Athletic 3 – 2 in Newbury Park. Dean Maguchu, Luis Ruiz and Chris Rowland all scored for the hosts as Chingford’s tough start to the campaign continued.

Also, Galleywood got their first win this season as they won 2 – 0 at Rayleigh Town Res. Sam Donn and replacement Lewis Rose got the goals for the Chelmsford-based side to send them up to mid-table. Finally for this division, Herongate Athletic got their second league win with a 4 – 2 success at Shoebury Town. Jack Sparrow, Ben Warren, Jonathan Packer and an OG accounted for the visitors’ goals.

EOFL Division Two

Now we move into Division Two, and Leigh Town lost their 100% record as they drew 2 – 2 at local rivals Rochford Town. Jack Pearman’s side struck through James Roberts and Tom Byford but Rochford got another point here to remain unbeaten. Beacon Hill Rovers  won 2 – 0 at Wakering Sports to leap up to top spot. Also, Laindon Orient got their first league win as they won 3 – 0 away to bottom side Harold Wood Athletic Res. Oliver Dingli, Ashley Blackburn and replacement Carlos Dias got the goals for Neil Blackburn’s side as they went into sixth place.

May & Baker Res also got a first league won as they won 3 – 1 at AS Rawreth. And in the game I was at this weekend, Corinthians drew 2 – 2 with Epping Town at Stambridge in a game both sides could have won. Leo Clarke and Nathan Dewberry goals put Chris Stoneham’s side two-up at the break but Town responded quickly through a penalty from Joe Rickett and a well-taken strike by player-assistant boss Dave Limber. If you’d like more on this match, my report is here: survivor16b.wordpress.com/2020/09/26/s20-21-match-report-corinthians-2-2-epping-t-sat-26-sept-eofl/

EOFL Division Three

In Division Three, ACD Utd are heading the standings after a comprehensive 7 – 0 triumph at Basildon Town Reserves. Player-boss Michael Wade helped himself to five of the goals himself, with Brad Falco and Connor Lambert joining him on the score-sheet. Town’s second-side lost their 100% start and drop to fourth after this result. Collier Row are the nearest rivals after a 4 – 2 win over Corinthians Res at the Forest Row Centre. Braces for Michael Coughlan and Daniel Reeve assisted the Romford-based side to a fine victory. Buckhurst Hill Ressies are third after a 4 – 1 success over Toby Res with Casey Lockhart, Jake Law and Jehmal Taylor among their goal-getters.

Elsewhere, Wakebury won 2 – 0 against Lakeside Utd at Shoebury Park. Goals from Billy Bonham-Dare and Daniel Buglione saw Matt Cardy’s side into mid-table while Utd are without a point from their three league games thus far. Also, Manford Way Res won 2 – 0 over Hutton Res and had a David Hornsby double to thank for their opening win of the league season.

S2020-21 Round-ups: Essex Olympian League (Wk 3 – Sat 19 Sept) [EOFL 20-21 20.9.20]

Written by Scott W [Twitter: @ScottMHC14]

Hello and welcome to another edition of the Essex Olympian League round-up, here on my blog, looking at the action from Saturday 19 September from the Premier Division all the way to Division Three, plus Results from Divisions Four & Five. Thanks for reading.

EOFL Premier Division     – Saturday 19th September

Starting off as we always do in the Premier Division, Basildon Town have three wins from three league games after a 3 – 1 win at Bishhop’s Stortford Swifts. Strikes from Antony Aylett, Graham Harrison and substitute Jamie Simpkins were enough to continue their fine start under player-boss Marcus Bowers. Carlos Flood got Swifts’ goal in this one but a frustrating afternoon was compounded by finishing the match with ten men. Harold Wood Athletic also got an important victory with a 2 – 1 success over Canning Town at Harold Wood Park. Connor Hartwell’s brace was enough to give Alex Goldstone’s side their first league win of the campaign.

Buckhurst Hill also retained their 100% start with a narrow 1 – 0 win at Leigh Ramblers. Suleyman Zuhdu once again was the difference as his goal saw them to victory despite ending the match with ten men. Rayleigh Town also saw off a tricky match with a 1 – 0 win at Old Southendian in their local derby at Garon Park. Harry Talbot got the only goal as Paul Higgins’ side got their campaign going with a first league win.

Hutton made the trip to the Len Forge Centre to face Catholic Utd and came away with a decent 1 – 1 draw. Aaron Baldwin put the Super Hoops ahead before substitute Lewis Scott levelled with sixteen minutes remaining. Kelvedon Hatch also drew 1 – 1 with Shenfield AFC at New Hall. Pelumi Adedokun struck for Shenfield and replacement Joseph Benjamin replied for Hatch as both teams picked up their first league point here. Finally for the top-tier, Sungate edged Springfield 1 –  0 to join Buckhurst and Basildon on nine points at the top of the early standings.

EOFL Division One

This week in Olympian Division One, we only had 34 goals being scored. Manford Way laid down another marker for their prospects this term as they powered past Shoebury Town 7 – 2 at the London Marathon ground. After coming off the bench, Kieron Smith got four goals on his own for the hosts, with Liam Burgess, Olajide Yusuff and Joe Lovell also on target for Trevor Grace’s side here. Ongar Town also got a big win, defeating Chingford Athletic 5 – 3 at the Lakeside Sports Ground.

Snaresbrook also got a fine win, with a 4 – 2 success over Galleywood at Nutters Field. Drew Barbier got a double here for Rob Caine’s side. Billy Osbourne and Daniel Tesfay also netted to overpower a brace for Harry Bond for Galleywood as they fell to defeat here. Toby also scored four in their 4 – 0 win at Ramsden Scotia with Rhys Willson also getting two goals here, with Marc Porter-Brown and Luis Ruiz also finding the net for Mark Jones’ team.

Elsewhere, Runwell Sports got a 2 – 0 win at Rayleigh Town Res with Keane Hill and Jon Atmore getting the crucial goals at London Road. Herongate Athletic also got a good result, winning 3 – 2 against Old Chelmsfordians at St Clere’s Sch. Goals from Jai Felstead, replacement Corley Ross and Ben Warren sealed the win for Herongate. OC’s responded through goals from Marley Okosi and Samuel Pollard.

EOFL Division Two

Now we move into Division Two and Epping Town got the result of the day as they secured a 7 – 3 triumph over Harold Wood Athletic Res. Joe Rickett was the hero for Stuart Hoskins’ side as he claimed four goals himself, with Graeme Turner, Callum Turner and Mike Moore also on target. Ath couldn’t stem the flow of goals but did respond through strikes by Warren Taylor, Mike Lowry and a penalty from James Pottle. Wakering Sports also got a decent result, winning 1 – 0 at AS Rawreth, with Ryan Gregory getting the only goal at the Warren.

Also, Leigh Town maintained their winning start to the season with a 4 – 0 victory at May & Baker Res. Shane Cooper struck twice in this one, with James Roberts and Tom Byford also getting their names on the score-sheet. Corinthians also have two wins from two league wins as they won 4 – 2 at Ryan, on the 3G pitch at Wadham Lodge. Lewis Watson and Scout Bown netted for the home side, but another treble for Nathan Dewberry and one from John Bolton-Smith got the Stambridge side to victory.

In the other two matches, Laindon Orient held Old Southendian Res to a 1 – 1 draw, with James Shadwell on target for Neil Blackburn’s side. And Rochford Town got an excellent 3 – win at Beacon Hill Rovers to remain unbeaten so far this term.

EOFL Division Three

In Division Three, Basildon Town Res maintained their 100% start with a 3 – 2 win over Manford Way Ressies at Basildon Sports Club. Two goals from Scott Cooper and one from Toby Warren were enough to claim the win, with Josh Duah and David Hornsby goals for the Manford side making it a close game. ACD Utd got a fine start to their league campaign as they won 4 – 2 at Hutton Res. Ollie Williams, Michael Wade, Samuel Payne contributed to the win, as did an own goal. Charlie Nichols and replacement Benjamin Rose scored for Hutton’s second side as they fell to defeat at Polo Fields.

Elsewhere, Buckhurst Hill Res defeated Leigh Town Res 2 – 0, with Genit Abazi and Maxwell Nwofor accounting for the goals at Roding Lane. Collier Row also got a victory, sending new side Lakeside Utd to a 3 – 2 loss at the Forest Row Centre. Michael Coughlan, Ben Woolven and Dan Reeve goals got Row to the points, while George Meany and Mohammed Bouzeryouh responded for Utd here. The other two matches in this division were both draws. First, Wakebury got a creditable 2 – 2 draw at Corinthians Res with Daniel Buglione and Chris Gore finding the net for Matt Cardy’s side. The home side responded through strikes by Luke Smith and Ryan Woodley.

And finally, Toby Res held Hullbridge Sports ‘A’ to a 2 – 2 draw In Newbury Park. The hosts had Chris Rowland’s brace to thank for their goals, while Harry Boswell and Max Pitts both netted for the young Hullbridge side.

Season Review 2019-20: Essex Olympian League Division Three [EOFL SR 19/20 23.4.20]

Written By Scott W  [Twitter: @ScottMHC14]

Hello and welcome to the second of a mini-series of blog articles looking back at the ‘void’ Season 2019-20, as deemed by the FA.

In this piece, I look back at Essex Olympian League Division Three, including an array of statistics compiled from the EOFL FA Full-Time website including top goalscorers & top appearance makers in the League fixtures. I was fortunate enough to attend a few Division Three matches this term so they may be referenced to as well here.

EOFL Division Three  (as of season cut-off point of March 14th 2020)

As with all the EOFL divisions, the season was halted in mid-March 2020 before eventually being curtailed several weeks later. At that point, ACD Utd held the top spot with 43 points from 18 matches. This record included thirteen wins and only the one loss, which was away at rivals Wakebury in late October. Michael Wade’s side were also the best side defensively in this division this term with only 19 goals conceded all league campaign, not bad for their first campaign as an Olympian League side. Fellow newcomers Wakebury were four points adrift in second place, with twelve wins from their 19 matches this term. Matt Cardy & Dan Blewett’s side were the most entertaining side this term with 56 goals scored, at an average of 2.95 Goals per game (GpG). The Shoebury-based side were not as proficient in defence and that may have cost them the top spot but both Wakebury & ACD have a lot to be proud of this season.

Another promoted side ended up being third in Corinthians Reserves. Terry Rose & Ben Adams’ team had an impressive twelve wins from their 15 matches, with only two losses, at home to Buckhurst Hill Ressies and away at Wakebury, which I was pleased to watch in-person. On a better note, they are the second-best goal-scorers this term with 51 goals (but in fewer matches than the Berries so the GpG is 3.40). A sturdy defence as well may have seen them climb into the top two, had the season continued. The next two sides ended in close formation in fourth & fifth respectively. Firstly, Toby Reserves were fourth on 29 points, with nine wins from their 18 matches. They were also fourth in the ‘Entertainers’ listing, with a substantial number of their 40 goals this season coming from forwards Marc ‘The Flea’ Porter-Brown and Luis Ruiz. In fifth place are Collier Row with 28 points from fourteen matches, which included an impressive nine wins for you guessed it, another promoted side (from Div Five in 2018/19). What is also noteworthy is that Row have the third-most miserly defence this term as well with 25 goals conceded, so plaudits to them on that.

Another side I saw this term in Hutton Reserves finished in sixth spot, having played the least amount of matches this term (13), ending up with 21 points. Matt Singh’s side grabbed seven wins this term, though as a caveat, six of those wins were at home. The other win was at White Ensign Reserves in mid-December, which happened to be the game I watched them in. Factor in an impressive goal-scoring record of 35 strikes (a GpG of 2.69) this season and again, they also have grounds for optimism next season. Leigh Town Reserves and Buckhurst Hill Reserves finished in seventh and eighth spot respectively. Leigh’s second-side, under the leadership of Robert Hutchings-Spiller ended up with 20 points from their 14 matches played. Unlike their first team in the division above, Town’s defence was breached 33 times this term as they won six and lost six of their matches this season. Hill’s second-team were two points behind them in eighth spot with 18 points from their fourteen games. Again, their defence was their ‘Achilles heel’, shipping 35 goals at an average of 2.50 per game.

Into the bottom four now, with Lakeside Reserves ending up ninth on 14 points from their 17 matches. All four of their wins this term came in their last nine matches as the latter half of the campaign saw them evade the dreaded bottom two. It was that poor start to the campaign (they didn’t win in their first ten matches) that contributed to them having the second-worst defensive record, conceding 48 times. Basildon Town Reserves finished tenth with 13 points from 15 matches. A difficult campaign at both ends of the pitch was highlighted by them having the third-weakest side in terms of goal-scoring, having scored 23 times and also conceding 41 goals, the fourth-worst in the division. Even so, their four wins this term matches the win count combined for the bottom two sides this term.

20191102_151847
Still from White Ensign Res v Hullbridge ‘A’ (2nd Nov 19)

White Ensign Reserves were 11th, with three wins chalking up the bulk of their ten points gained this term. Manager Jack Caten has had it hard this term, as his side conceded 53 times in their 18 matches, the worst in the division. That said, they continue the club’s tradition of playing at the Len Forge Centre [3G] which is good to see. Finally, another new side in Hullbridge Sports ‘A’ ended up propping up the table, with one win all season – away at rivals Lakeside Reserves. It was a rare great day for Jason Mole’s side, as they scored four points all season and conceded forty-six  goals in their 15 matches this term. I saw the bottom two duke out a 1 – draw in November (image above) at the Len Forge.

Saturday 25 January

Premier Division

As we usually do, we start in the top-tier. In their top of the table showdown, Buckhurst Hill were held to a goalless draw by rivals Sungate, in a match seen my Non-League Correspondent ‘DW’. His video clips are available via his Twitter feed sat @essexfootie. Also, Leigh Ramblers  got a fine 4 – 1 win at struggling Bishop’s Stortford Swifts. Charlie Portway netted for Swifts though that was outdone by goals for the Rams by Andrew Webster, Ryan Lowe , Pat Cannon and Dan Williams wich in turn secured the visitors their fourth win in their last games and rise to second spot, six points off leaders Sungate. Shenfield AFC also grabbed a hugely-important triumph as they won 4 – 1 at Canning Town. Alex Tredgett’s brace led the strugglers on the path to victory, with Ben Caroll and Samuel Lock also on target to send them up two places to 12th. Canning stay in eighth spot but only have seven matches remaining to play this season and they are only three points clear of the bottom.

Finally for the Premier, in the match I attended at Garon Park, Old Southendian got a big 4 – 0 win over title challengers Catholic Utd. Nick Henesy struck twice, with Nico Dubouchet and Ryan Stillwell’s also on target as OS ended a a four-match winless run in some style to rise to 10th. The ‘Super Hoops’ have lost their last three matches now and drop to 3rd and are vulnerable by the sides immediately below them in Buckhurst Hill, Springfield and Rayleigh Town who all have matches in hand on Dan Trenkel’s side. If you’d like more on this match, my report is here: survivor16b.wordpress.com/2020/01/25/match-report-old-southendian-4-0-catholic-utd-sat-25th-jan-eofl/

In Senior One, FC Hamlets defeated fellow mid-table side Shoebury Town 2 – 0, thanks to goals from John Gilroy and Charlie Heatley to move up to ninth, though Ashley King’s side have still only played eight matches in the league thus far, so a busy next three months or so beckons. Leaders Chingford Athletic won again, 3 – 0 at top five side Galleywood, thanks to a treble by Lee Lashley. Dave Richbell’s side lead the division by ten points, though their rivals all have a number of matches in hand on them. In what was a mixed day for the top five in Senior Two, leaders Leigh Town were untroubled as they won 3 – 1 at home to Harold Wood Athletic Res at John Burrows Rec. Harry Payne, Daniel Driscoll and Brodie Horne all struck to give Jack Pearman’s side a sixth consecutive league triumph and go three points clear at the summit. May & Baker Res defeated fellow high-flyers Old Southendian Res as Jmmy Donald’s side came out 2 – 1 winners. Michael Agha and Darren Seymour strikes overturned David Stubbs’ strike for the OS side and went five points clear in 4th. Ben Manley’s OS side saw their eleven-match unbeaten streak end here though they remain 2nd, a point clear of Beacon Hill Rovers, who impressively won 3 – 2 at rivals Corinthians. A George Davis double and one from Adefunbi Adeyemi was enough to secure Rovers a sixth win in their last seven matches to stay 3rd. Chris Stoneham’s side drop to seventh though do have matches in hand to compensate for their dip in form of late.

Wakering Sports also won, 2 – 0 at home to out-of-form Epping Town. Ryan Gregory and Ben Rowe strikes were enough to give Sports a second win in their last seven outings. Epping remain fifth on goal difference after a frustrating afternoon. Laindon Orient are level on points with Town in sixth following a 6 – 0 win at home to beleaguered Ryan. Skipper James Shadwell got a treble with Carlos Dias, Jordan Walsh and Ashley Blackburn also on the score-sheet in a resounding win for Neil Blackburn’s team.

Match OFF: AS Rawreth  P – P  Rochford Town   |

Senior Division Three

An explosive day of Senior Three action saw 37 goals scored in just five matches. Wakebury remain four oints clear at the summit after a 4 – 2 triumph at White Ensign Res. Charlie Little got another brace for Matt Cardy’s side, with Liam Jarrett and Harry Kateley also on the scorer’s sheet to make it four straight wins though with five matches remaining to play, the onus will soon turn to their rivals as they seek to gain ground on the EOFL newcomers. ACD Utd still lead the chasing pack in second place, after an enthralling 6 – 4 win over Basildon Town Res at Westlands. Player-boss Michael Wade got a treble here, with Connor Lambert also netting twice and Sam Payne also chipping in. Grant Cumming hit two for Bas, with Ryan Morgan and Lewis Wynne also on target though they remain second-bottom.

Corinthians Res also got back to winning ways with a narrow 4 – 3 win at bottom side Hullbridge Sports ‘A’. Max Hall’s hat-trick and one from Ashley Webb was enough to outdo home goals from William Bray, Tom Ranger and replacement Joseph Darby and remain third, six points ahead of Collier Row. Lakeside Res got their third win in their last four games with a 4 – 2 success at mid-table Toby Res. Salem Said got a brace, with Brandon Booty’s spot-kick and Damilola Olusanya also contributing. Toby’s second-side responded through Dean Maguchu and Marc Porter-Brown strikes though it is four losses on-the-bounce for them as they stay fifth, 11 points adrift of ACD in second.

Also, Buckhurst Hill Res rose to seventh with a 5 – 3 victory over fellow mid-table side Leigh Town Res. Tommy Fraine grabbed a treble to keep up his impressive form in front of goal, with Landry Gogoa also netting for the Hill second-side.

Hello and welcome to this week’s review of the Essex Olympian League action, from Saturday 16th November in the Premier Division all the way to the results in Senior Five. Thanks for reading.

Essex Olympian League

Premier Division

Starting as ever with the top division, with Buckhurst Hill really gathering their momentum with a 5 – 2 win over fellow high-flyers Leigh Ramblers at St John’s [3G]. Dan Whitehead put the hosts ahead early on though after a tough battle, a four-goal salvo courtesy of braces for Nathan Sollosi and Fenti Falola late on ensured Hill went top on goal difference. The Rams’ third straight loss means they fall to fifth.  Hutton edged Sungate 3 – 2 at Polo Fields to extend their unbeaten run to three matches. A brace from George Nash and one from replacement Will Marlowe sees the home side up to tenth. The ‘Gate suffered only their second loss this term here and drop to third place.

Bishop’s Stortford Swifts defeated Rayleigh Town  2 – 1 to rise to eighth place. By Contrast, Rayleigh’s winless run now extends to six matches and they sit second, level on points with leaders Buckhurst Hill now. Also, Shenfield AFC were held 1 – 1 by improving Old Southendian at St Martin’s School.

Match Postponed: Harold Wood Athletic P – P Springfield  (Due to a waterlogged pitch)

Senior Division One

Moving into Senior One, Chingford Athletic continued their superb form since entering the division with a 4 – 0 win at Snaresbrook. Elsewhere, Lakeside were held 3 – 3 by Herongate Athletic. Drew Klessa-Smith was back in the goals for ‘Side with a brace, with Ryan Budd also notching here though they dropped to fourth. And in the clash of the bottom two, Shoebury Town were held 2 – 2 by Toby at Cupid’s. Both sides are yet to win this term, though Toby did pick up their first point of the campaign here.

Roydon  P – P  Basildon Town  | Paringdon Sports Club

Senior Division Two

In Senior Two, with Epping Town not in action, it was a chance for the rest of the top five to gain ground. Corinthians did exactly that, overcoming a less than super start to demolish AS Rawreth 9 – 3 at the Stambridge Memorial Ground. Louis Hill powered a hat-trick for AS here, though the hosts’ firepower roared back as Nathan Dewberry got another four goals here, with Jake Hodder getting two himself and Bill Wilton, Theo Cannon and Oliver Brickwood also notching here. Chris Stoneham’s side went back top on goal difference, Leigh Town are the other side on 22 points as they just got the better of Wakering Sports 3 – 2. Shane Cooper, Harry Payne and Max Jones were their scorers here, with Danny Pallett and Mohammed Sesay hitting back for ten-man Sports here. Beacon Hill Rovers are only a point behind in third as they defeated Ryan 3 – 1. Laindon Orient sit fifth as an Ashley Blackburn brace assisted them to a 2 – 1 win over Harold Wood Athletic Res in Basildon. Joe McBurney hit back for the Ath second-string though they stay 7th.

Old Southendian Res also had a thriller as they were held 3 – 3 at home to fellow mid-table side May & Baker Res. Andrew Cable, Lewis Caplin and Greg Molford struck for OS though they drew for the fourth time in their last six matches. Rochford Town also got a win by way of Home Walkover as struggling Westhamians could not field a side.

Finally for the main section, in Senior Three, Toby Res remain top of the standings as they triumphed 4 – 2 against Collier Row. Hello and welcome to my regular round-up of the week’s action in the Essex Olympian League from Saturday 5 October, looking at the top four divisions, the Senior League Cup action plus results from Senior Division Four and the Reserve League Cup results, all in a ‘one-stop shop’. Thanks for reading.

Nathan Sollosi and Suley Zuhdu netted for Mark Williams’ team though Mitchell Day and substitute Liam Snellin strikes levelled things up for ten-man AFC who had Sam Bubb dismissed. Also, Kelvedon Hatch were held 1 – 1 by Rayleigh Town at New Hall. Two other sides also have 100% records in the division with one of them being Epping Town who dismantled Westhamians 19 – 0 at Stonards Hill. Hutton Reserves picked up their first league win of the campaign in some style with a 13 – 3 win at struggling Dagenham Utd. Sean O’Callaghan and substitute Jack Shaw both hit trebles, with Joshua Seal and Josh Sumner getting braces plus Stephen Judge, Conor O’Regan and Adam Player all also on target in a thumping win for the Shenfield-based side. Hello and welcome to this week’s round-up of the Essex Olympian League action, which looks at the top four tiers spanning the Premier Division all the way until Senior Division Three with results from Senior Division Four. My thanks to the clubs and to EOFL Publicity Officer Andy Wilkins for his assistance in this piece.

Premier Division

So, we start with Catholic Utd giving us another reminder of their strength as they won 7 – 0 at Hutton. Tom Hollingsworth led the charge with four goals himself, with Simon Thomas, Tony Jacobs & Aaron Baldwin the supporting cast of goal-getters on this occasion. Sungate were also among the goals as they won 5 – 2 at home to Springfield. Jake Clarke struck twice here, with Reece Clarke, Shaun Goddard and substitute Gabriel Ogunwomoju also finding the target for Bobby Port’s side.

Meanwhile, Basildon Town dispatched Shenfield AFC  3 – 0 in a battle of the newly-promoted sides. Keith King, Tommy Green and Junior Lawrence strikes gave Gareth Cleverly’s side the points. Kelvedon Hatch also triumphed, with a 2 – 1 win away at Canning Town. Veterans Petrit Elbi and Alan Taylor did the business with the goals for Hatch in that one.

Also, in the match I attended at London Road, Rayleigh Town defeated Leigh Ramblers 3 – 1 in a battle of the then top-two. Danny Hurford, Henry Sims and substitute Bailey Moss all scored for the hosts, while Joe Hunter’s crisp curling strike pulled one back late on for Wayne Seal’s team. Senior Challenge Cup (aka Kershaw Cup)

In the show-piece early-season event of the Olympian League calendar, Bishop’s Stortford Swifts narrowly defeated Buckhurst Hill 1 – 0 at Roding Lane as Stuart Hoskins’ team took home the first piece of silverware this term.

Senior Division One

Next, into Senior One now and Chingford Athletic opened their season with a fine 3 – 0 win over Herongate Athletic. Alex Gordon, Gary Murray and Eric Kelly all notched here to give Dave Richbell’s side the win. Also, Ramsden Scotia were held 0 – 0 by visitors FC Hamlets at the Nursery Sports Ground.

Senior Division Two

Senior Two’s matches were awash with goals this weekend. First, Laindon Orient powered to a 9 – 1 victory over Westhamians. Substitute Jasper Read helped himself to a hat-trick, with Troy Reed getting a double plus Samuel Burton, Adam Cole, Ashley Blackburn and James Shadwell all got one apiece for Neil Blackburn’s side.

AS Rawreth beat Harold Wood Athletic Reserves 4 – 2 with Chadrack-Kisoka Domingo , Louis Hill, Lewis Wynne and substitute Peter Mwaura all netting to outdo strikes by Joe Pyne and Joe McBurney for the Wood second-side. Leigh Town defeated an under-strength Rochford Town side 3 – 1 away from home with Tom McKeon, Sam Gillmore and substitute Kieron Crane netting for the visitors. Luke Jackson struck for Rochford though they fell to defeat here.

Finally in this division, Old Southendian Res started life in Div Two with a fine 2 – 0 win at Wakering Sports. David Stubbs and Greg Molford got the goals in this one at Cupid’s.

Senior Division Three

Into Senior Three now and with Corinthians Reserves getting the points via a home walkover as opponents Dagenham Utd couldn’t field a side, attention turned to the other three matches. Buckhurst Hill Ressies’  were the first visitors to the new Hullbridge Sports ‘A’ side as Hill won 3 – 2. George Mole and Joseph Darby struck for Sports though a Rhys Davies’ brace and one from Landry Gogoa ensured the points went back with Hill.

The other two games were both drawn. Firstly, Lakeside Reserves were held 3 -3 by Basildon Town Reserves. David Alele, Harry Davison and Marley Wright all netted for the hosts, though Bas left with a point thanks to strikes by Jake Bridgeman, Sam Green and player-boss Alex Shields. Second, Toby Reserves  held Leigh Town Reserves  3 – 3 in a battle of two new sides to the division. Ben Forsyth, Chris Pope and Connor Tyler netted for the visitors though Toby got a point through an OG plus Rhys Willson and Sam Parish goals.
