Hello and welcome to the return of the Essex Olympian League round-up’s for the 2018-19 season. This season we will (as much as possible) go through the Results and more from the Premier Division, all the way to Senior Division Three.

We start with the first weekend of action in all four divisions – Saturday 25th August.

EOFL Premier Division

Bishop’s Stortford Swifts H – W  Great Baddow (Home walkover – Baddow couldn’t raise an XI)

In the ation that did go ahead, newcomers Buckhurst Hill continued their excellent start to the campaign with a 3 – 1 win over Catholic Utd. Richard Akinlade’s brace and Steve Townsend’s goal sealed Hill’s second straight win. Utd start with a defeat though Thomas Kearney got their goal.

Elsewhere, Canning Town defeated Old Southendian 4 – 1 thanks chiefly to a Reece Morgan hat-trick and a Beko Dushku strike. Town recorded their first success of the new term while the Southend side succumbed to their second straight loss. Leigh Ramblers recorded an impressive 2 – 0 win at Harold Wood Athletic as Harry Goodwin and Jamie Selby-Knight strikes extended Ramblers’ 100% winning start.

In the other matches in the division, Rayleigh Town held Springfield 1 – 1 while Sungate won 3 – 2 at Kelvedon Hatch and a Brad Freeman brace assisted Hutton to a 4 – 1 victory over Manford Way.

EOFL Senior Division One

In the three matches in this division that took place on its opening day, Ongar Town won 2 – 1 at FC Hamlets through goals from Ben Stone and Ben Polley. Charlie Heatly halved the arrears for the hosts though they fell to defeat.

Meanwhile, 2016/17 Senior One Champions Basildon Town recorded a very good 4 – 1 win at home to Frenford Reserves on their return to the division following their relegation from the Premier tier last term. Alfie Phillips, Jimmy Markham, Sener Suari and Jamie Miller all netted for Town. Finally, in a battle of two newly-promoted sides, Rayleigh Town Reserves dispatched Herongate Athletic 3 – 1 thanks to a double from Charlie Legg and Oliver Ventura’s additional goal.

EOFL Senior Division Two

Lakeside began the season under their new name with a comfortable 3 – 0 win over Ryan. Drew Klessa-Smith’s treble did the damage to give the hosts all three points. Meanwhile at the Rochford Recreation Ground, Rochford Town began another Senior Two campaign with a 2 – 2 draw with Newham Utd. Dave Watson struck twice for Town while Lamar Obinkwo’s double ensured a point for Newham.

Meanwhile, relegated Runwell Sports were held 3 – 3 by Upminster and in another duel of the newly-elevated sides, Chingford Athletic and Harold Wood Athletic Reserves battled to a goal-less draw.

EOFL Senior Division Three

Finally for this opening article, Division Three provided 13 goals in three matches. Leigh Town grabbed arguably the stand-out victory of the day with a 4 – 1 triumph over newcomers Wakering Sports. George Darby’s brace, Zac Mashford and Ashley Sexton set the visitors on their way to victory. Paul Wines got a consolation for Sports.

Newcomers Laindon Orient succumbed to a 2 – 3 loss to Roydon. Lewis Watson, Jordan Handscomb and Charlie Ryder goals saw the visitors to victory while goals from Rodney Sarah-Wilson and Ash Blackburn at least ensured Neil Blackburn’s side were competitive.

Elsewhere, White Ensign Reserves beat Old Chelmsfordians Reserves 2 – 1 thanks to Perry Osborne and Harry Somerset-Butler strikes. Martin Mixture netted for OC’s second team though they fell to defeat.

That’s all for this week, keep tabs on the blog for future articles throughout the season & thanks for reading.

Hello and welcome to an extended round-up of the action in the Essex Olympian League this weekend, stretching from the Premier Division to Senior Division Two plus results from Divisions Three & Four and action in the Anagram Records Trophy & Senior League Cup.

Anagram Records Trophy – Quarter-Final

Catholic Utd  2  – 0   Sporting Hackney

The Super Hoops progressed to the last four of the competition as they saw off Middlesex County Premier side Sporting Hackney at Wellstead Gardens. Goals from Max Kent and Mike Trenkel were enough to seal the win and they will face Wormley Rovers at home in the Semi-Finals on Saturday 24th March.

Senior League Cup –  Quarter-Finals

Frenford  4 – 3  White Ensign

Frenford battled past fellow Olympian Premier side White Ensign to progress to the semi-finals. The visitors led 2-0 before a penalty from Bradley Nobbs five minutes before half-time and a Danny Lock [51′] free-kick levelled things up for Frenford. Daniel Driscoll made it 3-2 before Ensign levelled and late on, substitute Georgie Fairhead got the winner to secure the Premier Division leaders’ progression.

Springfield   2 – 4    Newham Utd

Newham caused an major upset at Arun Close and sent Premier Division Springfield out of the competition. Goals from Omar Jomanday, Ousman Ndure, Michael Omari and Nick Read did the business for the EOFL Div Two outfit. Springfield replied thanks to goals from Jamie Doyle and Jack Mundy.

Olympian League  –  Premier  Division

Basildon Town  3 – 1    Bishop’s Stortford Swifts

Basildon picked up only their second win of the season here. Strikes from Yaw Danso, Dominic Locke and Sam Marsh sealed the win and kept alive their slim hopes of avoiding the drop this season. Stortford are in 8th spot.

Harold Wood Athletic  P – P   Manford Way  (Due to a waterlogged pitch)

Leigh Ramblers  1 – 4   Kelvedon Hatch

Keveldon powered to a big win over Ramblers at Belfairs Park. Anthony Aylett, James Burt, Lee Newton and George Saunders goals sealed the points which leaves Hatch in 4th spot and Ramblers in 10th.

Rayleigh Town   3 – 2  May & Baker E.C

May & Baker’s topsy-turvy form continued as Rayleigh grabbed a last-gasp win over the former leaders. Town led through Aaron Pallett and Harry Talbot goals before an Oxby penalty and a Henry Osei strike brought them back level. Peter Beaumont’s 90th minute goal sealed all three points for second-bottom Rayleigh and therefore May & Baker missed the chance to leapfrog Frenford at the summit.

EOFL – Senior Division One

Galleywood  1 – 0   Great Baddow

Galleywood ended Baddow’s long unbeaten run to go three points clear of bottom side Runwell Sports. Craig Skipper got the only goal of the game to leave Baddow top but vulnerable as Buckhurst Hill are two points behind though have four matches in hand.

Hutton   6 – 1   Old Southendian

Hutton moved ahead of their opponents here into 3rd after a crushing win. A double from Matt Price plus further strikes from Dan Carpenter, Keelan O’Donovan, Thomas Price and Chris Rowlatt ensure the win.

Runwell Sports  0 – 1    Sungate

Sungate edged to victory here despite ending the match a man light. Jake Clarke got the only goal for the mid-table side. Stephen Harding was the man dismissed though the visitors held on to stay 5th on goal difference, with matches in hand. Runwell remain bottom with only five matches to play.
