Hello all and welcome to my round-up of the action in the Essex Olympian League, on Saturday 13 November. This week, the focus on League action remains, with this round-up focusing on the top four divisions, with results from Divisions Four and Five. Many thanks for reading.
Essex Olympian League Round-up – Saturday 13 November
EOFL Premier Division
In a day of big results in the Premier Division, Basildon Town extended their advantage at the summit to four points after an important 3 – 1 victory at Galleywood. Thomas Watling scored his 11th league goal this term for ‘Wood but strikes by Graham Harrison, Ryan Scougall and Adam Bessadi were enough to give player-boss Marcus Bowers’ team the victory. Ongar Town drew 1 – 1 with fellow title rivals Rayleigh Town at Lakeside Sports Ground, with Ben Baxter scoring for Rayleigh there after Jack Zielinski had given Ongar the lead a few minutes earlier. Hutton also lost ground on the top three as they lost 1 – 0 at Kelvedon Hatch, with Drew Klessa-Smith getting the crucial goal there.
Meanwhile, Catholic Utd had a big second-half performance to thank for a 5 – 2 success at Shenfield AFC with Aaron Baldwin netting a treble after the interval for Simon Thomas’ side with Harley Kee getting the other two goals to keep them in sixth. Leigh Ramblers also got a huge victory as they triumphed 3 – 1 at Bishop’s Stortford Swifts. Jack Gardner, Ole Hunter and Paul Hayes all netted to give Mark Hunter’s team the win which takes them up to eleventh. Swifts remain tenth.
Also, Canning Town edged to a 2 – 1 win over Old Southendian in Beckton and Sungate won 2 – 1 at Springfield.
EOFL Division One
In the second-tier, Epping Town climbed out of the bottom two with a 3 – 1 triumph at Leigh Town. Callum Turner got all three goals as Stuart Hoskins’ team got a big win. Chingford Athletic moved into the top six after a important 5 – 2 victory at home to Beacon Hill Rovers at Town Mead. Eren Muti struck twice for Declan Murphy’s team here, with Jed Arthur, Vasilieios Theologou and substitute Scout Bown all also on the score-sheet.
Also, Toby continued their good run of late with a 2 – 1 win at home to Corinthians, with Albert Perry getting both goals for Mark Jones’ side in Newbury Park. Wakering Sports extended their lead at the summit to five points after defeating nearest rivals Runwell Sports 2 – 1 at St Luke’s Park. Alfie Fossett and player-boss Mitchell Gleeson got the crucial goals to overturn substitute George Lyons’ goal for Sports. Finally, Old Chelmsfordians rose to fifth after a comfortable 5 – 1 success at home to Herongate Athletic at Lawford Lane. Charlie Portway netted four goals for the OC’s here, with Brad Ross netting the other goal for Scott Fleming’s side. Steven-Rhys Boreland-Mastersgot the solitary consolation for Billy Cove’s side.
EOFL Division Two
Now into Division Two, and both of the leading sides got narrow away wins this weekend. Harold Hill kept their three-point lead thanks to a 1 – 0 win away at AS Rawreth with Peter Tyler notching his 17th league goal this term to give Mark Ellis’ side a vital win. Rawreth remain tenth. ACD Utd also won 1 – 0, away at Harold Wood Athletic Res with Jacob Dingli notching his 13th league goal of the campaign to extend Greg Knock’s team a six-point advantage over their nearest rivals Wakebury, who drew 3 – 3 at fellow top four side Manford Way. Max Hall, Daniel Buglione and Jack Smith all netted for Matt Cardy’s side but a double for David Alele and one for Samuel Oramadike saw Manford get a point.
Elsewhere, Hutton Res are off the bottom of the table after a big 6 – 2 win over fellow strugglers Rochford Town at Polo Fields. Jack Power and Michael Browne both scored for Jim Cooper’s team but a fine hat-trick by Jude Keeling plus strikes by Dayne Wood, Bailey Morris and Benjamin Rose sealed an important win for the home side, only their second win of the season to date. Mid-table sides Shoebury Town and May & Baker A drew 2 – 2 at Cupid’s with Abraham Jairette & Eddy Cooper netting for the visitors. Substitutes Brad Samaroo and Billy Bonham-Dare got the goals in reply for Garry Johnson’s side. Lastly, Old Southendian Res won 4 – 3 at Rayleigh Town Res, with Calvin Armstrong, John Hanrahan and Dan Beestone netting for Dark Barker’s Town side there. The OS second-side rise to sixth after this win.
EOFL Division Three
In Division Three, Hashtag Utd Development remain in third place after a conclusive 5 – 1 victory over Leigh Town Res at Barleylands. Samuel Pratt notched another two goals for the Tags youth side here, taking his tally in the league to eight this term. Kai Warren, Josh Jarvis and replacement Jake Smith completed the goal-scorers to keep their eight-point lead over closest rivals Toby Res, who won 3 – 2 at struggling Collier Row, thanks to a double from Oliver Dingli (reaching 15 league goals in the process) and one from Toby Stutely.
Meanwhile, the top two both won with leaders Catholic Utd Res winning 3 – 1 at Corinthians Res, thanks largely to a brace from Dan Trenkel and one from George Jones. Samuel Halsey replied for the Stambridge-based side. Wakering Sports Res remained six points adrift after a 4 – 1 victory against mid-table Pitsea Athletic. Connor Fardyga netted a superb treble to pass 15 league goals this term with Scott Clark also scoring for the hosts at Cupid’s. Finally for this division, Buckhurst Hill U23 won 3 – 1 at Hullbridge Sports Res with Michael Clark netting for ‘Bridge.
