Round-up: Essex Senior League & Cups (Sat 28 Dec) [ESL 19/20 29.12.19]

Written By Scott W  [Twitter: @ScottMHC14]  – Non-League & ESL Writer

Hello and welcome to my round-up of Essex Senior League from Saturday 28 December. The weekend’s focus was the Peter Butcher Trophy with one tie each in the League and the Errington Challenge Cup, which saw a superb match take place. I would also like to wish a very happy Happy New Year to all clubs, staff, players & readers of this blog.

Saturday 28 December

Peter Butcher Trophy – Round One

Enfield  3 – 0  Southend Manor   | Woodside  | Att: 73

The E’s got a morale-boosting win to progress into the next round of the Peter Butcher Trophy with victory over fellow strugglers Southend Manor at Woodside. Steven Ellery’s rasping effort put Matt Hanning’s team ahead seven minutes before half-time. The latter stages saw the hosts secure a much-needed triumph as strikes by Dan Chambers [70’] and Joe Pattison [76’], twinned with a rare clean sheet got the job done. Manor’s focus shifts to their league campaign in the New Year.

Redbridge Res  0 – 5  Walthamstow  | Robert Clack [3G]

Walthamstow named a strong line-up and comfortably brushed off Reserve Division side Redbridge Reserves at Robert Clack in Dagenham to secure their progress into the next round. Player-boss Ryan Maxwell got a rare goal here, along with another brace for the seemingly-unstoppable Dwade James. Stanley Muguo and Lewis Francis also netted in this one as the ESL side pretty much wrapped up their progression by half-time.

Match Off: Redbridge P – P Sawbridgeworth Town Res (Waterlogged Pitch)

ESL Badge

Essex Senior League

Clapton  2 – 0 Sawbridgeworth Town  | Southchurch Park | Att: 25

In the only league match this weekend, Clapton grabbed only their fourth win this term with a win over fellow strugglers Sawbridgeworth Town. Goals from Germaine Dua and Deimar Queni were enough to back up some promising approach play and leap above both Southend Manor and Enfield in the table to go into 16th spot. Sawbo’s tough season goes on, they are nine points below Manor in the standings.

The ESL Challenge Cup (CC Final 1.5.17)

Errington Challenge Cup – Round Two

Saffron Walden Town  4 – 3  Cockfosters   | Catons Lane | Att: 214

In the match I attended this weekend, Walden made it into the Quarter-Finals of the Errington Cup was they edged a superb encounter with Cockfosters. Nathan Scarborough struck twice for Walden & had a goal chalked off for off-side. On his debut for the Bloods, Tyger Smalls also scored & Jake Noble got the other goal. Billy Healey, George Beattie & Marcus Crowther got the goals for ‘Fosters who contributed heavily to a dramatic second half in particular.

I'm a Mental Health survivor (been surviving for years) & campaigner. I also like Music & Sport. This blog is centred on all things Non-League Football, mainly Match Reports of matches I've seen (mainly Essex Senior League (ESL) but also other Leagues) though it also houses the regular round-up's of the ESL action plus the Essex Olympian League divisions regularly. It also has the odd post about the scary world that we're all in, talking from a Mental Health perspective. Thank you for reading.
