Hello and welcome to my round-up of the curtailed Essex Olympian League programme that took place on Saturday 14th December, thanks to the weather (the matches with ‘P-P’ in them denote that they were postponed. Thank you for reading.
Saturday 14 December
In the only surviving top-tier tie, Sungate came away from Beckton with a 4 – 2 victory over struggling Canning Town. The result means that the ‘Gate have a four-point lead at the summit, with Catholic Utd and Leigh Ramblers their nearest challengers in second and third respectively. Buckhurst Hill sit fourth, six points adrift of the leaders though have five matches in hand on them to catch up the points deficit.

Senior Division One
Only one match survived in Senior One as well and it saw a rare blemish on Chingford Athletic’s season ‘scorecard’. Lakeside won 2 – 0 at Town Mead thanks to strikes by Ollie Pettit and Charlie Ashpole to take them into third place on their own. Chingford still lead the standings by seven points though nearest rivals Old Chelmsfordians have three matches in hand to leapfrog them.

Senior Division Two
Two matches were played this weekend in Senior Two. Epping Town drew 3 – 3 with a spirited Wakering Sports side at Stonards Hill. Mohammed Sesay scored twice for Sports, with player-boss Mitchell Gleeson also notching. Glen Warwick got a double of his own for Town, with Alex Paraskeva also on target for Billy Cove’s side who rise to fourth though are five points adrift of leaders Leigh Town. Elsewhere, in a match reversed to Rochford Recreation Ground, May & Baker Res still won well, 4 – 0 over Rochford Town. Jeese Martin grabbed a brace, with Connor Kain and Ryan Leavens on target to see Jimmy Donald’s side leap up to sixth spot.

Senior Division Three
Finally for this section, in Senior Three, ACD Utd went up to third place with a 2 – 1 success at bottom side Lakeside Res. Michael Wade and George Munns struck for ACD, with David Alele on target for the hosts, who are three points adrift at the foot of the table. Also, Hutton Res secured fourth win in eight games this term with a 3 – 0 win at White Ensign Res. Brad Freeman, Stephen Judge & Joshua Seal goals after the break sealed a good performance from Robert Lorkins’ side and rise to seventh in the process.
