Hello and welcome to a part preview of this weekend’s Essex Olympian League action, which sees the Senior Cup action continuing alongside some really fascinating league fixtures. Below is a brief look at my pick of the weekend’s action per division plus the rest of the fixtures from the Premier Division, all the way up to Senior Division Three.
Essex Olympian League Fixtures – Saturday 14th September
Premier Division (2.30pm KO’s)
Pick: Leigh Ramblers v Sungate | Belfairs Park
Ramblers welcome in-form Sungate to Belfairs. Wayne Seal’s side may be happy to get back to home comforts after mixed away days recently, as they haven’t won in their last three matches. Sungate by contrast are unbeaten after three wins in their first four matches, although they have all been at home. These two sides locked horns last just two weeks ago – that match ended in a draw though both sides are looking like they could be in for good seasons this term.
Other Fixtures in Premier Division
Bishop’s Stortford Swifts v Basildon Town | Silver Leys
Harold Wood Athletic v Canning Town | Harold Wood Park
Kelvedon Hatch v Old Southendian | New Hall
Shenfield AFC v Rayleigh Town | St Martins Sch [3G]
Springfield v Hutton | Springfield Hall Park
FA Vase Second Round Qualifying (3pm KO)
Lopes Tavares v Catholic Utd | Terence MacMillan Stadium
Essex Thames-side Trophy (3pm KO)
Buckhurst Hill v Walthamstow | Roding Lane
Senior Division One
Toby v Lakeside | Ford’s Sports Club (Newbury Park – Toby pitch)
Toby face a Lakeside outfit that make their league bow this term here at Ford’s Newbury Park. The home side here were in Senior Cup action last weekend, making the long trip to Southend as they defeated White Ensign Reserves to advance in the competition then. It wasn’t so great a day in their only previous league match though as they lost out at home to Old Chelmsfordians. It will be fascinating how both of these sides adapt to Senior One following their respective promotions in May.
EOFL Senior League Cup 2019-20 (2.15pm KO’s)
Chingford Athletic v Beacon Hill Rovers | Town Mead [3G]
Ongar Town v Snaresbrook | Fyfield Village Hall
Ramsden Scotia v Leigh Town | Nursery Sports Ground
Runwell Sports v Manford Way | Runwell Sports Club
Shoebury Town v Old Barkabbeyans | Cupid’s Country Club (Pitch 2)
Springfield v Hutton | Springfield Hall Park
Senior Division Two
Pick: Old Southendian Res v Epping Town | Garon Park
OS’ Ressie side welcome Epping to Garon Park. The hosts won Division Three last term under former long-serving boss Lee Warrington. Under the tutelage of new gaffer Ben Manley, they handsomely defeated Canning Town’s reserve side in the Reserve Cup last time out and also won their only league game to date at Wakering Sports three weeks ago. They face a wholly different test here though as Billy Cove’s Epping rock up following a hard-fought win after extra-time over rivals Corinthians in the Senior Cup last weekend. For me, this is one of the matches of the weekend outside the top division of the EOFL, given that both sides score goals.
Also in Senior Two this weekend:
Laindon Orient v Rochford Town | Ford’s Sports Club (Basildon)
May & Baker Res v AS Rawreth | May & Baker FC
Ryan v Corinthians | Wadham Lodge (Intermediate Grass Pitch)
Westhamians v Wakering Sports | Fairlop Oak Playing Fields
Senior Division Three
Corinthians Res v Wakebury | Stambridge Memorial Ground
Corninthians’ second-string take on newcomers Wakebury at the Stambridge Memorial Ground. Terry Rose’s team have record three wins from three matches thus far. Factor in their keenness to out-score their opposition and this makes this tie another interesting one. Wakebury started their season last weekend with a fine win at Basildon Town Reserves and the Shoebury-based team cannot be discounted in this one.
Also in Division Three this weekend
ACD Utd v Hullbridge Sports ‘A’ | Westlands Playing Fields
Collier Row v Buckhurst Hill Res | Forest Row Centre
Dagenham Utd v White Ensign Res |Ford’s Sports Club (Newbury Park) – Dag U pitch)
