Hello and welcome to this week’s round-up of the Essex Olympian League action, which looks at the top four tiers spanning the Premier Division all the way until Senior Division Three with results from Senior Division Four. My thanks to the clubs and to EOFL Publicity Officer Andy Wilkins for his assistance in this piece.

Premier Division

So, we start with Catholic Utd giving us another reminder of their strength as they won 7 – 0 at Hutton. Tom Hollingsworth led the charge with four goals himself, with Simon Thomas, Tony Jacobs & Aaron Baldwin the supporting cast of goal-getters on this occasion. Sungate were also among the goals as they won 5 – 2 at home to Springfield. Jake Clarke struck twice here, with Reece Clarke, Shaun Goddard and substitute Gabriel Ogunwomoju also finding the target for Bobby Port’s side.

Meanwhile, Basildon Town dispatched Shenfield AFC  3 – 0 in a battle of the newly-promoted sides. Keith King, Tommy Green and Junior Lawrence strikes gave Gareth Cleverly’s side the points. Kelvedon Hatch also triumphed, with a 2 – 1 win away at Canning Town. Veterans Petrit Elbi and Alan Taylor did the business with the goals for Hatch in that one.

Also, in the match I attended at London Road, Rayleigh Town defeated Leigh Ramblers 3 – 1 in a battle of the then top-two. Danny Hurford, Henry Sims and substitute Bailey Moss all scored for the hosts, while Joe Hunter’s crisp curling strike pulled one back late on for Wayne Seal’s team. Senior Challenge Cup (aka Kershaw Cup)

In the show-piece early-season event of the Olympian League calendar, Bishop’s Stortford Swifts narrowly defeated Buckhurst Hill 1 – 0 at Roding Lane as Stuart Hoskins’ team took home the first piece of silverware this term.

Senior Division One

Next, into Senior One now and Chingford Athletic opened their season with a fine 3 – 0 win over Herongate Athletic. Alex Gordon, Gary Murray and Eric Kelly all notched here to give Dave Richbell’s side the win. Also, Ramsden Scotia were held 0 – 0 by visitors FC Hamlets at the Nursery Sports Ground.

Senior Division Two

Senior Two’s matches were awash with goals this weekend. First, Laindon Orient powered to a 9 – 1 victory over Westhamians. Substitute Jasper Read helped himself to a hat-trick, with Troy Reed getting a double plus Samuel Burton, Adam Cole, Ashley Blackburn and James Shadwell all got one apiece for Neil Blackburn’s side.

AS Rawreth beat Harold Wood Athletic Reserves 4 – 2 with Chadrack-Kisoka Domingo , Louis Hill, Lewis Wynne and substitute Peter Mwaura all netting to outdo strikes by Joe Pyne and Joe McBurney for the Wood second-side. Leigh Town defeated an under-strength Rochford Town side 3 – 1 away from home with Tom McKeon, Sam Gillmore and substitute Kieron Crane netting for the visitors. Luke Jackson struck for Rochford though they fell to defeat here.

Finally in this division, Old Southendian Res started life in Div Two with a fine 2 – 0 win at Wakering Sports. David Stubbs and Greg Molford got the goals in this one at Cupid’s.

Senior Division Three

Into Senior Three now and with Corinthians Reserves getting the points via a home walkover as opponents Dagenham Utd couldn’t field a side, attention turned to the other three matches. Buckhurst Hill Ressies’  were the first visitors to the new Hullbridge Sports ‘A’ side as Hill won 3 – 2. George Mole and Joseph Darby struck for Sports though a Rhys Davies’ brace and one from Landry Gogoa ensured the points went back with Hill.

The other two games were both drawn. Firstly, Lakeside Reserves were held 3 -3 by Basildon Town Reserves. David Alele, Harry Davison and Marley Wright all netted for the hosts, though Bas left with a point thanks to strikes by Jake Bridgeman, Sam Green and player-boss Alex Shields. Second, Toby Reserves  held Leigh Town Reserves  3 – 3 in a battle of two new sides to the division. Ben Forsyth, Chris Pope and Connor Tyler netted for the visitors though Toby got a point through an OG plus Rhys Willson and Sam Parish goals.

Senior Division Four (Results only)

Catholic Utd  5 – 1 Laindon Orient Res   | Len Forge Centre (3G)

Forest Glade  1 – 2  Wakering Sports Res  | Barleylands Road

Roydon  2 – 2 Old Chelmsfordians Res  | Paringdon Sports Club

It also has the odd post about the scary world that we're all in, talking from a Mental Health perspective. Thank you for reading.
