Hello and welcome to this week’s round-up of the Essex Olympian League action, which focuses on the seven Premier Division matches this weekend. The action in the other divisions starts next week.

EOFL Premier Division

We start at Basildon Sports Club where Basildon Town started life back as a top-tier club with a 3 – 1 success over Canning Town. Keith King got the first for the hosts, with Tommy Green and Brodie Horne also on target for Gareth Cleverly ‘s side.

Bishop’s Stortford Swifts were also among the day’s victors with a 3 – 0 triumph over visitors Old Southendian at Silver Leys. Xaniel Doku, Terrell Hunter and a Chris Gibbs thunderbolt secured the points in their first home match. Catholic Utd were the day’s ‘entertainers’ with a hefty 6 – 2 victory over Kelvedon Hatch at the Len Salmon Stadium. Simon Thomas was the leading scorer with a brace, with Tom Hollingsworth, Dan Trenkel and Tony Jacobs also getting themselves on the score-sheet, alongside an OG.

Elsewhere, Leigh Ramblers continued their early 100% start with a fine 3 – 0 victory at Harold Wood Athletic. New signing Rhys Fatt got a double to get things moving for Wayne Seal’s side, to which Jack Davies got the other goal as the Rams took all three points there. Rayleigh Town also got a stand-out result as they defeated last season’s champions Buckhurst Hill 3 – 1. Paul Morris got two of the home side’s goals, scoring on 25 and 65 minutes. Cameron Glover got a late third to seal the points for Paul Higgins’ team. Suley Zuhdu struck back for Hill though this result might imply the division could be a bit stronger than last season this time around.

Also this weekend, Springfield started their campaign with an impressive second-half showing in a 5 – 2 win at Shenfield AFC. Ryan Batchford, Mason Sprott, Dave Wareham, Oliver Brittain and Joe Nathanson were the ensemble cast of scorers here as the visitors took the spoils. Joe Oliver and Jordan Elliott got consolation goals for the hosts. Finally, Sungate started their season with a 4 – 1 win over Hutton at Ilford Wanderers Rugby Club. Jake Clarke, Shaun Goddard, James Smith and substitute Gabriel Ogunwomoju all netted to overwhelm Joshua Bardouleau’s solitary goal for the South Essex side.

It also has the odd post about the scary world that we're all in, talking from a Mental Health perspective. Thank you for reading.
