Hello and a warm welcome to another of my mini-series of articles previewing the upcoming 2019-2020  Essex Olympian League season, division-by-division. We continue with Senior Division One which will have 14 sides competing in it with a multitude of sides getting promoted to strengthen the competition.

EOFL Senior One Constitution (2019-20)

  • Chingford Athletic (P)
  • FC Hamlets
  • Galleywood
  • Herongate Athletic
  • Lakeside (P)
  • Manford Way (R)
  • Old Chelmsfordians
  • Ongar Town
  • Ramsden Scotia
  • Rayleigh Town Res
  • Runwell Sports (P)
  • Shoebury Town (P)
  • Snaresbrook
  • Toby (P)

Senior One has seen something of an overhaul as no less than five clubs have been elevated from Senior Two. That said, with the top two of Shenfield AFC and Basildon Town going getting promoted, FC Hamlets and Snaresbrook lead the sides looking to follow suit this term. Those two sides both got top-four finishes in 2018-19 thanks to strong respective campaigns with Ramsden Scotia and Galleywood next on the list. An inspired finish to the season saw Old Chelmsfordians grab seventh last term, with Herongate Athletic, Ongar Town and Frenford Res after them. The latter side have elected to move to the Essex Senior League Reserve Division for the new season, while Rayleigh Town Reserves got a reprieve from the drop and once again take their place in Senior One. After a severely tough campaign last time out, May & Baker Reserves drop to Senior Two this time around.

Onto the newcomers then in Senior One, and leading that number are Senior Two champions Chingford Athletic who shone on all fronts last term to win that title on goal difference, thanks to a heavy win at the end of April. Runners-up Toby will also face the step up, after 13 wins last term. Runwell Sports, Shoebury Town and Lakeside make up the ‘new blood’ in what promises to be a really competitive division this coming season.

To all the clubs, managers, players and many others who support them, have a good season all. I look forward to keeping tabs on the action. Best, Scott

I'm a Mental Health survivor (been surviving for years) & campaigner. I also like Music & Sport. This blog is centred on all things Non-League Football, mainly Match Reports of matches I've seen (mainly Essex Senior League (ESL) but also other Leagues) though it also houses the regular round-up's of the ESL action plus the Essex Olympian League divisions regularly. It also has the odd post about the scary world that we're all in, talking from a Mental Health perspective. Thank you for reading.
