Hello & welcome to this week’s round-up of Essex Senior League action which again was heavily affected by weather… Groundhog Day & a broken record anyone?
Saturday 31st March 2018
Burnham Ramblers 3 – 1 Woodford Town
| Venue: Leslie Field | Att: 36
I attended this match and my match report is here: https://survivor16b.wordpress.com/2018/03/31/match-report-burnham-ramblers-3-1-woodford-town-esl-31-3-18/
Clapton 0 – 3 Sawbridgeworth Town
| Venue: Old Spotted Dog | Att: 42
Sawbridgeworth continued their fine recent form with a win over 6th place Clapton at the Old Spotted Dog. Joe Wright put Sawbo ahead seven minutes before the break. A minute after the interval, Aaron Thomas struck to double the lead before Terrell Hunter secured the win later on. Thanks to their 4th win in their last five, John Watters’ side leapfrog Ilford and Tower Hamlets and go into 8th spot. Clapton’s fifth straight defeat means they stay 6th though nearest challengers West Essex have three matches in hand on the Tons.
FC Romania 4 – 1 Sporting Bengal Utd | Venue: Theobalds Lane | Att: 35
FCR warmed up for their Gordon Brasted Final appearance on Easter Monday with a comfortable victory over Bengal at Theobalds Lane. The hosts netted another four times here. First through an OG seven minutes after half-time before Mihai Botosan [56′], Cosmin Sandu [73′] and Sergiu Pitaru ten minutes after that sealed the points to grab FCR’s second win in their last four matches. They remain 3rd, though are two points shy of GWR in 2nd. Bengal slide down to 15th, four points clear of the drop zone after three defeats in their last five now.
Tower Hamlets 1 – 3 Hullbridge Sports | Venue: Mile End Stadium | Att: 46
Hullbridge ended a superb week for them with a first-half inspired victory at Mile End. Only six minutes had elapsed when Luke Hornsley gave Darren Manning’s side the lead. Adebola Sotoyinbo the continued his recent goal-scoring form by adding a brace [19′ & 22′] to all but seal the points. However, a clean sheet eluded them as Harry Matthews struck in injury-time to give the hosts something to shout about. Hullbridge’s third straight win sees them leap up to 14th, though are five points clear of the relegation zone. Hamlets suffered their third straight loss here and drop to tenth.
