Bostik Division North (& South) round-up (BLN 17.3.18)

Hello & welcome to another round-up of Bostik League North & South action. The weather struck once again as rain & snow heavily affected both divisions this weekend.

Saturday 17th March

AFC Sudbury 0 – 2 Potters Bar Town
| Venue: King’s Marsh | Att: 190

The Suds fell to a home defeat against in-form Potters Bar. Goals from Lee O’Leary [11′] and Michael Murray [23′] secured the Scholars’ 6th win in their last 8 matches to take them above Canvey, into 3rd spot. Sudbury’s third straight defeat leaves them in 12th spot.

Barking 0 – 2 Soham Town Rangers
| Venue: Mayesbrook Park | Att: 71

Barking’s inconsistent nature struck again with a loss to mid-table Soham. Lee Chaffey broke the deadlock on 14 minutes before an OG from Barking defender Adeyemi [68′] sealed the points for the visitors and in doing so ended a three-match winless run for them. Barking’s third loss on-the-trot sees them 9th while Soham are 15th.

Bury Town 2 – 1 Canvey Island | Venue: Ram Meadow | Att: 251

The Islanders lost out at Ram Meadow. Jack Lankaster gave Town the lead two minutes after the break, before Tevan Allan [71′] gave the hosts a more comfortable advantage. Canvey replied through Mitchell Gilbey’s strike eight minutes from time though Danny Heale’s side drop to 4th as they continue to stutter somewhat with two wins in their last six matches. Bury stay 11th after their first win in four matches.

Heybridge Swifts 3 – 1 Cheshunt | Venue: Scraley Road | Att: 203

Heybridge took another stride towards the play-offs with a good win over nine-man Cheshunt. Matt Price’s brace [21′ & 44′] put the hosts ahead before the visitors were not one but two men down after Agholor & Symons were both dismissed in a six-minute spell midway into the second-half. Despite their numerical disadvantage, Amadou Kassarate struck nine minutes before time for the Ambers to perhaps put the odd doubt in the home fans’ minds though that doubt was quelled six minutes later as Jack Cawley scored to secure the win for Jody Brown’s side. Heybridge’s 6th success in their last 8 matches sees them up to 8th, six points off the top six with at least four matches in hand while Cheshunt slip back to 23rd after only their second loss in their last six.

Norwich Utd 1 – 1 Bowers & Pitsea | Venue: Plantation Park | Att: 82

Bowers made the long trip north though were held by the improving Planters. David Knight’s sweet 35-yarder [33′] powered Rob Small’s side ahead though Nathan Stewart levelled on the hour to extend the hosts’ unbeaten run to three matches and go back into 22nd on goal difference. Bowers remain 2nd, six points clear of Potters Bar in 3rd.

Ware 1 – 0 Hertford Town | Venue: Wodson Park | Att: 251

Ware secured a vital win over mid-table Hertford. Jordon Watson’s goal [35′] was enough to give his side their 2nd straight win and rise to 20th, ten points off the bottom. Town’s 4th loss in their last six sees them in 13th spot.

This blog is centred on all things Non-League Football, mainly Match Reports of matches I've seen (mainly Essex Senior League (ESL) but also other Leagues) though it also houses the regular round-up's of the ESL action plus the Essex Olympian League divisions regularly. It also has the odd post about the scary world that we're all in, talking from a Mental Health perspective. Thank you for reading.
