Essex Senior League Round-up (ESL 18.2.18)

Written by Scott W  (Twitter: @ScottMHC14)

Hello & welcome to my regular round-up of the action in the Essex Senior League this weekend. All seven matches survived the recent inclement weather and points were won & lost in important matches at both ends of the table.

Saturday 17th February

Barkingside 1 – 1  Southend Manor
| Venue: Cricklefield | Att: 48

‘Side recovered from a goal down to hold Manor at Cricklefield. Alfie Lindfield gave Manor the lead on 37 minutes though a minute before the break, Roddy Lemba restored parity for the hosts and that’s how it stayed. Barkingside go up one place to 14th, just two points above the bottom four. Manor stay 12th.

Clapton 0 – 1  Takeley   | Venue: Old Spotted Dog | Att: 72

Takeley were on the right side of another tough match at the OSD. Nick Barrett’s late free-kick secured all the points which takes Takeley back above the Tons into 5th, though they are nine points adrift of the top three. Clapton’s four-match winning run ended here, and are 12 points clear of Ilford in 7th.

Enfield 1893 2 – 0 Stansted  | Venue: The Harlow Arena | Att: 54

The E’s battled to their third win in four matches here. Goals from Ayo Odukoya [35′] and Dan Crowe [40′] were enough to pull Matt Hanning’s side out of the bottom four and into 16th place. Stansted’s third loss in their last four sees them stay 13th though the Airportmen are only three points ahead of that bottom four.

Great Wakering Rovers 1 – 1 Redbridge
| Venue: Burroughs Park | Att: 92

The top-of-the-table ended honours even at Burroughs Park. Redbridge led through talismanic striker Brian Moses’ 23rd goal of the league season [11′] though GWR levelled just seven minutes later thanks to Nathan Dewberry. They couldn’t be seperated after that as Redbridge stay top by three points, with Wakering joint-second with FC Romania after their unbeaten run extended to seven matches.

Hullbridge Sports 2 – 1  Tower Hamlets
|  Venue: Lower Road | Att: 38

Hullbridge picked up a hugely important win at Lower Road. I attended this match, my report is here: https://survivor16b.wordpress.com/2018/02/17/match-report-hullbridge-2-1-tower-hamlets-esl-17-2-18/

Sawbridgeworth Town 1 – 1  Ilford
| Venue: Crofters End | Att: 47

These two old rivals had another battle at Crofters End. Aaron Thomas opened the scoring six minutes in to put the hosts ahead before hot-shot Tony Cookey levelled five minutes before the interval. Sawbo stay 11th, above Southend Manor on goal difference while Ilford remain 7th though West Essex and Tower Hamlets behind them have games in hand.

Wadham Lodge 4 – 2  Waltham Forest
| Venue: Kitchener Road |

Wadham won the Walthamstow Derby and in doing so, grabbed their first win in seven matches. Sherwin Stanley was again the hero for Lodge with a hat-trick while Brian Simpson got the other strike for the hosts. Christian Owusu got a brace for Forest though a run of one win in their last seven sees Ryan Maxwell’s side in 17th place, perched above the bottom four, only a point above Burnham. Wadham remain 20th though are only four points from safety now.

I'm a Mental Health survivor (been surviving for years) & campaigner. I also like Music & Sport. This blog is centred on all things Non-League Football, mainly Match Reports of matches I've seen (mainly Essex Senior League (ESL) but also other Leagues) though it also houses the regular round-up's of the ESL action plus the Essex Olympian League divisions regularly. It also has the odd post about the scary world that we're all in, talking from a Mental Health perspective. Thank you for reading.
