Hello & welcome to my semi-regular round-up of the action in the Essex Senior League this weekend. This week, Following the ESL action, there’s an extended results check from the Essex Olympian League (Premier Division – Senior Division 4) & Essex Premier Cup Quarter-Finals.

Basildon Utd 1 – 3  Sawbridgeworth Town   | Venue: The Hive | Att: 71

The Bees were upset by resurgent Sawbridgeworth at the Hive. James Mays put John Watters’ side ahead on the quarter-hour, before hot-shot Marcus Bowers [32′] levelled. However, goals from George Pullen [62′] and a injury-time third from Toby Cleaver sealed an impressive win for Sawbo.

Burnham Ramblers 0 – 1 Waltham Forest    | Venue: Leslie Field  | Att: 24

Forest edged this encounter at Leslie Field. Vincente Belho got the only goal to take Forest above Burnham in the table and continue the hosts’ poor start to 2018.

Enfield 1893 1 – 2 Clapton | Venue: Harlow Arena | Att: 146

A Jeffrey Cobblah-inspired Clapton narrowly won this one at the Harlow Arena. Cobblah struck on 32 minutes to break the deadlock before securing his brace with 18 minutes to play. Adu Odukeya grabbed one back for the E’s nine minutes from time.

Hackney Wick 1 – 7 Barkingside  | Venue: Old Spotted Dog   | Att: 21

Barkingside stormed to a big win at the OSD to add to Wick’s pain. Greg Moorse put the hosts ahead before ‘side recovered impressively through another hat-trick from Roddy Lemba plus goals from on-loan Mattheus Santos, Kofi Billzy, Michael Ogboin and James Briggs. Wick host Southend Manor in midweek in another important match.

Ilford 1 – 1 Tower Hamlets  | Venue: Cricklefield | Att: 75

Ilford recovered to hold Hamlets at Cricklefield. Ex-Ilford striker Wale Odedoyin struck just three minutes in before Tony Cookey levelled for the Foxes.

Southend Manor 0 – 1  Stansted
| Venue: Southchurch Park | Att: 92

Stansted ground out another win at nine-man Manor. I attended this match – my report is here: survivor16b.wordpress.com/2018/02/03/match-report-southend-manor-0-1-stansted-esl-3-2-18/

Sporting Bengal Utd  0 – 2  Great Wakering Rovers
| Venue: Mile End Stadium  | Att: 10

Wakering battled to another three points thanks to goals from Nathan Dewberry [60’] and Chris Bryan ten minutes from time to keep the heat on the top 3.

Takeley  P – P  FC Romania   | Venue: Station Road

Match postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Wadham Lodge  P – P  Redbridge   | Venue: Kitchener Road

Match postponed due to compassionate grounds following the sudden passing of a soul connected to Wadham the night before the match. My thoughts & best wishes to the person’s family & friends and also the club as a whole.

West Essex  3 – 2  Woodford Town (2017)
|  Venue: Mayesbrook Park  | Att: 36

West Essex edged a five-goal thriller at Mayesbrook. Woodford struck through Temi Babalola and Takudzwa Mashingaidze though West recovered as through goals from James Bromley, a Joe Lefley spot-kick and the ever-dangerous Michael Mignot midway through the second-half.

I'm a Mental Health survivor (been surviving for years) & campaigner. I also like Music & Sport. This blog is centred on all things Non-League Football, mainly Match Reports of matches I've seen (mainly Essex Senior League (ESL) but also other Leagues) though it also houses the regular round-up's of the ESL action plus the Essex Olympian League divisions regularly. It also has the odd post about the scary world that we're all in, talking from a Mental Health perspective. Thank you for reading.
