Hello & welcome to my round-up of Essex Senior League action this weekend, followed by a results round-up from the Essex Olympian League Premier Division, Division One & Division Two.
Friday 26th January 2018
Tower Hamlets 1 – 3 Barkingside
| Venue: Mile End Stadium | Attendance: 86
Barkingside produced a strong display to leave Mile End with a good victory. Michael Walther’s men struck twice at the end of the first half through Roddy Lemba [40′ & pen 45′] to have the advantage at the break. An OG four minutes into the second half gave Hamlets some hope though Lemba completed a fine hat-trick seven minutes from time to give ‘Side their second win in their last four matches, sitting in 16th spot. Hamlets’ third loss in their last five matches sees them fall to 8th spot.
Saturday 27th January
Clapton 3 – 1 Wadham Lodge
| Venue: Old Spotted Dog | Attendance: 62
The Tons secured a good three points at home to Wadham. Steven Sardinha’s double [29′ & 80′] and a late goal from substitute Kai Bichard late on sealed the win. Brian Simpson got Wadham’s goal. Clapton’s thurd win in their last five sees them keep pace with the top-five in 6th. Wadham’s winless run stretches to six matches as they sit 19th, six points ahead of bottom side Hackney Wick.
Great Wakering Rovers 7 – 0 Burnham Ramblers
| Venue: Burroughs Park | Att: 50
I attended this match, my match report is here: https://survivor16b.wordpress.com/2018/01/27/match-report-great-wakering-rovers-7-0-burnham-ramblers-esl-27-1-18/
Hullbridge Sports 1 – 1 Enfield 1893
| Venue: Lower Road | Att: 39
Hullbridge came from behind to claim a point although Enfield were without regular goalkeeper Matt Corderoy so outfield player Jayden Hocking-Rising had to don the gloves. Ben Bradbury [17′] put the visitors ahead before Michael Salako restored parity for Darren Manning’s men eight minutes after the break. Sports inch up to 18th with this result, though are just a point clear of thrir opponents here who are second-bottom as their winless run extended to eight matches.
Ilford 2 – 1 Hackney Wick
| Venue: Cricklefield | Att: 55
The Foxes picked up an important if not spectacular victory over bottom side Wick. On-loan Liam Whipps and Jamie Hart got the goals for Allan Fenn & Billy Cove’s side. Jonas Fuadianitu got Wick’s goal. Ilford’s 2nd win in their last 8 sees them go into 7th, two points clear of Tower Hamlets &West Essex. Wick’s winless run continues and they are five points adrift at the bottom.
Southend Manor P – P Basildon Utd
This match was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
Stansted 4 – 0 Sporting Bengal Utd
| Venue: Hargrave Park | Attendance: 37
A superb second-half showing secured Stansted’s third win in the last four matches. Julien Lloyd put the Airportmen ahead ten minutes after the break before strikes from Chris Moore [68′], Warren Thomas [72′] and Ryan Ramsey [85′] secured the win as Stansted went up to 13th, six points clear of the bottom four. Bengal’s fourth defeat on-the-trot sees them down to 15th and not clear of the relegation scrap just yet.
Takeley P – P West Essex
Despite the efforts of the hosts to get this match on, it was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
Waltham Forest 1 – 4 Redbridge
| Venue: Kitchener Road | Att: 39
Redbridge continued their fine form as all the goals came in the second half at Kitchener Road. Brian Moses gave the Motormen the lead six minutes after the break, before Abdoulie Njai levelled on 62 minutes. Reside Coxi-Sebastfao put the visitors back ahead six minutes later before late goals from Moses [81′] and Jacob Dingli [90’+2] secured the victory.
