Essex Senior League Round-up (20.1.18)

Written by Scott W (@Twitter: @ScottMHC14)

Hello & welcome to the return of the results round-up looking at the Essex Senior League action this weekend, which was heavily affected by the inclement weather. The action began on Friday night with one match at Oakside:

Friday 19th Jan

Redbridge 2 – 1 Barkingside  | Venue: Oakside  | Att: 104

The Motormen produced a stirring late comeback to deny gritty Barkingside at Oakside. Barkingside took a surprise lead through on-loan Ryan Imbert on 32 minutes. The hosts huffed & puffed though it looked as though they would be frustrated by a strong ‘Side defence, assisted well by goalkeeper Ryan Karrer. Though that wasn’t to be as substitute Calvin Poku levelled with two minutes remaining before Poku struck again on the cusp of 90 minutes to ensure another three points for Ricky Eaton & Joey May’s side, their seventh straight league win.

Saturday 20th Jan

Burnham Ramblers 0 – 3 Clapton   | Venue: Leslie Field | Att: 65

Clapton produced a strong performance to take the points at Leslie Field. Khadean Campbell struck eight minutes in to give the Tons the lead. Burnham had their goalkeeper Joshua Strizovic to thank for frustrating the visitors along with the Ramblers defence though The Tons sealed the win with Steven Sardinha’s penalty [73′] and a strike from Greg Akpele five minutes later. Burnham suffered their third straight defeat while Clapton obtained their second win in their last five matches.

Enfield 1893 1 – 4  Basildon Utd  | Venue: Harlow Arena  | Att: 50

Basildon overwhelmed Enfield to secure another good three points here. Marcus Bowers opened the scoring with a fourth-minute spot-kick before Jack Adlington doubled the lead on 26 minutes. Bowers struck again two minutes before half-time and then three minutes after the interval, Adlington also completed his brace to seal the points. Recent signing Aundre Spencer [64′] grabbed a consolation though the hosts fell to their fourth straight defeat here. The Bees by contrast have now won six of their last seven outings.

The following matches were all postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

It also has the odd post about the scary world that we're all in, talking from a Mental Health perspective. Thank you for reading.
