Hello & welcome to another round-up of Bostik Division North action and South results this weekend, reduced due to a number of clubs in FA Trophy action.
Saturday 11th November
Bostik Division North
AFC Sudbury 3 – 2 Tilbury
Venue: Wardale Williams Stadium | Attendance: 254
The Suds resisted a late surge by the Dockers to claim the win. Goals from early substitute Ben Hunter {35’] and Jake Colclough [46’] put the hosts in a good position, though the visitors responded with late goals from substitute Toby Aromolaran [81’] and Adam Vyse [90’] before an injury-time winner by Jake Clowsley sealed the hosts’ first win in five matches. Tilbury have lost three on-the-trot now and reside in 19th place.
Canvey Island 3 – 0 Grays Athletic
Venue: Park Lane | Attendance: 394
Canvey overcame Grays at Park Lane. A Mitchell Gilbey penalty a minute before the break put the Islanders ahead and the hosts cemented that advantage with goals from George Sykes [68’] and Ryan Charles [72’] to claim their tenth win of the season and claim top spot on goal difference. Grays’ five-match undefeated run comes to an end and also announced after the match that assistant boss Darren Manning has left the club, as he seeks to test himself as a manager – Manning has joined Essex Senior League side Hullbridge Sports, where he was a player and a reserve team boss previously.
Cheshunt 0 – 4 Barking
| Venue: Theobalds Lane | Attendance: 204
In-form Barking had a happy away-day as they defeated the Ambers at Theobalds Lane. The Blues edged ahead just before the break through Kiernan Hughes-Mason and doubled their lead seven minutes after the re-start through Dan Gilchrist. Late goals from substitute Sam Shaban [89’] and Abs Seymour on the stroke of full-time sealed the win for Justin Gardner’s side. Barking are now unbeaten in six league matches and are in 8th place in the table, three points off the play-offs. Cheshunt’s struggles continue as this was their fifth loss in their last nine league matches, they sit in 21st place.
Dereham Town 2 – 2 Romford
| Venue: Aldiss Park | Attendance: 202
Dereham were held by battling Romford at Aldiss Park. Jonathon Nzengo broke the deadlock twelve minutes in for Paul Martin’s side before four minutes after the interval, Jamie Forshaw levelled for the Magpies. Substitute Toby Hilliard [67’] put the hosts ahead though that lead lasted only six minutes before Romford substitute Hugo Atkinson [73’] struck to claim a point for his side. Dereham are level on points with Canvey at the top of the table though sit 2nd on goal difference. Romford’s second stalemate in succession edges them closer to the sides above them though they still sit bottom of the pile.
Hertford Town 0 – 1 Soham Town Rangers
| Venue: Hertingfordbury Park | Attendance: 243
Soham continued their recent good run with a good win at Hertingfordbury Park. Joe Carden got the only goal seven minutes from time to give the Greens their third win in their last six matches. Hertford’s second loss in their last six matches sees them remain 7th in the table.
Norwich Utd 1 – 3 Witham Town
| Venue: Plantation Park | Attendance: 101
Witham struck early with a goal-blitz to continue their recent revival at Plantation Park. First-half goals from Chinedu Osadebe [10’], Lance Akins [13’] and Correy Davidson [20’] pretty much sealed the points as substitute Liam Jackson’s late goal for the Planters was ‘too little, too late’. Witham’s third straight win sees them rise to 15th spot while Utd remain 23rd, having not won in four matches now.
Ware 0 – 4 AFC Hornchurch
| Venue: Wodson Park | Attendance: 88
Hornchurch returned to form here at Wodson Park with a comfortable win over out-of-form Ware. Elliott Styles [18’] broke the deadlock for the Urchins though they stepped it up after the break as goals a brace from George Purcell [61’ & pen 80’] and Leon McKenzie [70’] sealed the visitors’ third win in their last five games and go 3rd in the table.
