Bostik League Division North midweek round-up (27.9.17)

Hello & welcome to an in-brief round-up of the action that took place in the Isthmian League Division North in midweek. The updated table will return at the weekend. Enjoy.

Tuesday 26th September

Brentwood Town 2 – 5 Maldon & Tiptree

Venue: Brentwood Arena  | Attendance: 105

Maldon first-half goal-blitz laid the foundations for a good win at the Brentwood Arena. Ryan Clampin’s quick-fire brace early-on (5’ & 8’) gave the Jammers the initiative before Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe made it three on 29 minutes. Clampin struck again to grab his hat-trick four minutes later as Kevin Horlock’s side led handsomely at the break. Maldon substitute Kieran Bailey made it five on 75 minutes before a late brace from Brentwood’s Andy Freeman (pen 77’ & 87’) made sure the hosts ended the match on a brighter note. This was Maldon’s third league win of the campaign.

Bury Town  0 – 1  Dereham Town

Venue: Ram Meadow  | Attendance: 275

Dereham edged this one to claim the points at Ram Meadow. Joe Gatting nabbed the only goal on 62 minutes to ensure the Magpies’ fifth league win of the campaign.

Soham Town Rangers  0 – 2  AFC Sudbury

Venue: Julius Martin Lane  | Attendance: 136

Sudbury held off the challenge of Soham to record a good away win at Julius Martin Lane. Adam Mills put the visitors ahead on 23 minutes, before Louis Blake doubled the lead ten minutes later to give the Suds their third league win of the season.

Tilbury 0 – 3 Bowers & Pitsea

Venue: Chadfields  | Attendance: 85

Bowers produced an excellent away-day display to claim the win at Chadfields. Jamie Salmon put the visitors ahead eight minutes before the break. Lewis Clark doubled the lead on 48 minutes. Rob Small’s side had to play the last nine minutes with ten men as Callum Leahy was given a straight red card. Bowers made the points safe though on 83 minutes as Clark got his second of the evening. Bowers have now won six league matches already this term.

 

Wednesday 27th September

Grays Athletic  3 – 6  Canvey Island

Venue: Parkside   |   Attendance: 253

Canvey got the points in a nine-goal thriller at Parkside. Mitchell Gilbey put the Islanders ahead on ten minutes. After the break, the goal glut started with Sam Collins (47’) and a George Sykes brace (52’ & 54’) giving Danny Heale’s side a 4-0 lead. Grays roared back to within one as Ryan Mahal (57’), Callum Ibe (61’) & Adeyinka Cole (63’) pulled Jamie Stuart’s side back into contention though Canvey sealed the win through Gilbey’s second on 64 minutes and Steve Sheehan’s header on 70 minutes. Canvey grabbed their fifth league win of the season here.

Romford  1 – 3  Cheshunt

Venue: Ship Lane  | Atttendance: 84

Cheshunt defeated out-of-form Romford at Ship Lane. Kyle Roberts put the Ambers ahead on five minutes, before Luke Illsley doubled the advantage 12 minutes later. Romford pulled one back through Jonathan Adebayo on 23 minutes though Paul Martin’s side trailed at the break. Callum Ellersley secured the second win of the season for Steve Newing’s side with 13 minutes remaining.
