Hello & welcome to a round-up of the action in the Isthmian League Divisions on Sat/Sun 16/17th September. The bulk of the Bostik Premier clubs and some Bostik North & South clubs are on FA Cup duty though here are the results from the remaining matches in all 3 Isthmian divisions. Enjoy.
Saturday 16.9.17
Bostik Premier Division
Merstham 3 – 3 Brightlingsea Regent
Venue: Moatside | Attendance: 148
Regent fought back to claim a draw in the only Bostik Premier match this weekend. Merstham took the lead through Jake Hutchings on eight minutes, before Alex Addai made it two on the quarter-hour. Regent pulled one back through Matt Cripps on 27 minutes. Merstham restored their two-goal cushion at the break as Simon Cooper made it 3-1. It stayed that way until the last ten minutes when super-sub Tom Richardson grabbed a late brace (80 & 88’) to give the R’s a point. Merstham rise to 13th, while Regent go into 11th place in the table.
Bostik Division North
Bury Town 0 – 0 Aveley
Venue: Ram Meadow | Attendance: 224
Aveley held in-form Bury Town at Ram Meadow in this stalemate. Bury Town are now unbeaten in four matches and sit in 7th place, while Aveley ended their three-match losing streak here and are 16th place.
Romford 0 – 5 Bowers & Pitsea
Venue: Ship Lane | Attendance: 106
Bowers thumped out-of-form Romford at Ship Lane. Lewis Clark gave Rob Small’s side the lead after just two minutes. Martyn Stokes doubled the lead on 31 minutes, before Ben Sartain made it 3-0 three minutes before the break. After the break, goals from Stokes (48’) and Clark (90+1) completed braces for them and a handsome win for the visitors. Romford fourth successive loss sees them second bottom, three points clear of Norwich Utd. Bowers second win on-the-trot sees them rise to 4th place.
Soham Town Rangers 2 – 2 Canvey Island
Venue: Julius Martin Lane | Attendance: 159
Ten-man Canvey fought back well to claim a point at Julius Martin Lane. Soham led through Gary Cohen’s opener 21 minutes in. Matt Allan doubled the lead on 62 minutes. Canvey then had goalkeeper Henry Newcombe sent off immediately afterward. Captain Sam Collins went in goal though late goals from Steve Sheehan (77’) & George Sykes (85’) denied Soham the victory. Soham rise to 13th place in the table while Canvey are now unbeaten in four matches, residing in 10th spot.
Tilbury 4 – 4 Norwich Utd
Venue: Chadfields Attendance: 67
This encounter was extraordinary from start to finish at Chadfields. Tilbury went ahead through goals early-doors from Emiel Aiken (2’) and Toby Aromolaran (10’). Norwich Utd roared back as Lawrence Cheese pulled one back on 23 minutes, before Jamie Speller levelled three minutes later. Aiken struck again six minutes before the break to give the Dockers a two-goal cushion again. After the break, a Danny Smith OG (71’) made it 3-3. Aiken then grabbed his hat-trick with nine minutes left. With moments left, Lee Will levelled once again to give the Planters their first point of the campaign. Tilbury rise to 9th place in the table.
Witham Town 0 – 1 Mildenhall Town
Venue: Spa Road Attendance: 81
Mildenhall narrowly defeated ten-man Witham at Spa Road. Joseph Asensi got the only goal 11 minutes before half-time. Witham had to see out the last minutes with ten men as Lance Akins was given a straight red card. Witham first loss in four sees them in 15th place. Mildenhall rise to 8th spot.
