Hello & welcome another round-up of the action in the Bostik League Division North here on my blog. There’s a quick turnaround with most teams playing twice in three days over the Bank Holiday Weekend. Below the Division North round-up, there’s also a mention of the results from today’s matches in Bostik Division South. Enjoy.
Friday 25th August result
Aveley 2 – 1 Witham Town
Venue: Parkside Attendance: 292
Aveley struck late on to deny Town and pick up a ‘smash & grab’ victory at Parkside. Elliot Ronto put the visitors ahead with 12 minutes remaining. Aveley levelled five minutes into injury-time though substitute Jack West before Aveley completed the turnaround two minutes later with fellow substitute Jordan Weston grabbing all three points after West’s flick on.
Saturday 26th August results
Barking 0 – 1 Heybridge Swifts
Venue: Mayesbrook Park Attendance: 72
Heybridge picked up a narrow win at Mayesbrook Park. Juan Luque got the only goal with 18 minutes remaining to keep up their 100% record in the division so far this season.
Bowers & Pitsea 1 – 2 Haringey Borough
Venue: Len Salmon Stadium Attendance: 102
Haringey picked up their second successive win at the Len Salmon Stadium after their FA Cup triumph last weekend. Micheal O’Donoghue gave Borough the lead ten minutes before the break. Borough substitute Michael Ademayui extended the lead for the visitors with six minutes left. Bowers grabbed a consolation through substitute and new signing Gavin Cockman four minutes from time though the visitors held on for their second win of the season.
Brentwood Town 5 – 2 Norwich Utd
Venue: The Brentwood Arena Attendance: 120
Brentwood produced a five-star performance at the Brentwood Arena. The Blues took the lead on 19 minutes through Matt Price’s spot-kick. Harrison Georgiou doubled that lead seven minutes later, before Andy Freeman made it 3-0 on 37 minutes. The Planters pulled one back through Lawrence Cheese three minutes before the interval. The visitors reduced their arrears to one on 58 minutes thanks to Ben Jones’s goal. Brentwood rallied late on after some nerves as Price converted a second penalty and struck at the death to complete his hat-trick.
Bury Town 1 – 4 AFC Hornchurch
Venue: Ram Meadow Attendance: 301
Hornchurch continued their unbeaten start to the season with a big win at Ram Meadow. Tobi Joseph put Hornchurch ahead after 13 minutes, before a Sam Mott OG levelled things for Town. After the break though, Hornchurch rallied to pick up the win as Brad Warner put the Urchins back ahead nine minutes after the restart. Joseph grabbed his second with 19 minutes left and substitute Theo Fairweather-Johnson made it four eight minutes from time.
Cheshunt 3 – 3 Canvey Island
Venue: Theobalds Lane Attendance: 180
Canvey recovered to claim a point in a entertaining draw at Theobalds Lane. George Sykes gave the visitors the lead after just three minutes, before Jason Hallett levelled for the Ambers ten minutes after the break. Cheshunt then took the lead through Daniel Cheema on the hour before Mark Summers made it 3-1 with twenty minutes to go. The Islanders fought back in the last ten minutes as goals from substitute James Walker and Ashley Dumas sealed a point for Danny Heale’s men.
Dereham Town 2- 0 AFC Sudbury
Venue: Aldiss Park Attendance: 210
Dereham continued their impressive start to the season with this win at Aldiss Park. Ashley Jarvis gave the Magpies the lead seven minutes into the second half. Sudbury were reduced to ten men with 16 minutes left as Julian Smith was dismissed. Daniel Beaumont’s penalty just a minute later sealed the win for a Dereham side yet to concede a goal in three matches.
Maldon & Tiptree 2 – 3 Hertford Town
Venue: Park Drive Attendance: 87
Hertford upset Maldon at the death to claim a big win at Park Drive. Daniel Bond gave Hertford the lead twenty minutes in, before Ryan Clampin levelled for the Jammers on the stroke of half-time. Michael Toner put Hertford back ahead with 13 minutes left. Maldon thought they’d grabbed a point as Ryan Gondoh levelled with minute to play. Though in injury-time, Maldon’s Nicholas Akoto was sent off for two bookable offences. Seconds later, Jason Beck’s goal pinched the win for the Bostik North newcomers, their first of the campaign.
Mildenhall Town 1 – 0 Ware
Venue: Recreation Way Attendance: 177
Mildenhall picked a narrow win over ten-man Ware at Recreation Way. Ware had to play 59 minutes with ten men as Ahmed Abdullah was dismissed just after the half-hour. Two minutes after the break, Shaun Avis broke the deadlock with the only goal of the game to grab an important three points for the Hall.
Potters Bar Town 3 – 1 Soham Town Rangers
Venue: Pakex Stadium Attendance: 126
Potters Bar continued their excellent start to the season with a good win over Soham at the Pakex Stadium. The Scholars took the lead after 12 minutes through William Wambeek. Soham were reduced to ten men on 24 minutes as Harry Norman saw red. Soham did level five minutes later from a James Tricks penalty, though Micheal Murray restored Potters Bar’s lead with two minutes of the first half left. Six minutes after the restart, Murray grabbed his second to make the points safe for Steve Ringrose’s side.
Romford 4 – 1 Tilbury
Venue: Ship Lane Attendance: 82
Romford powered to a good win over Tilbury at Ship Lane. Jonathon Nzenga gave the hosts the lead on the quarter-hour. Luke Hornsley levelled for the Dockers a minute before half-time. Romford pushed on after the break, as Ben Clarke restored their lead ten minutes after the interval. Nzenga grabbed his second twenty minutes from the end and Chris Taylor made it four with six minutes remaining.
Waltham Abbey 2 – 1 Grays Athletic
Venue: Capershotts Attendance: 114
Abbey came from behind to grab the win at Capershotts. Kieran Bishop gave Grays the lead after 25 minutes. Abbey levelled though through a Christian Assombalonga penalty eight minutes after the break before Darelle Russell grabbed the winner with 15 minutes remaining.
