Tower Hamlets took on mid-table Hullbridge Sports on a chilly evening at Mile End Stadium in an Essex Senior League encounter. The home side were looking to avenge a 7-1 home Cup defeat just two weeks ago here.
The visitors started brighter, and took the lead after only four minutes as forward Lucas Frankis slotted home neatly as Hamlets couldn’t clear their lines.
Hamlets attempted to settle themselves down after thieir early setback, though just couldn’t find much fluency in the final third. Forward O’Neal Rowe had two chances comfortably saved by visiting ‘keeper James Merralls. The home side’s best chance of the first period came on the half-hour as Saico Djop blasted a well-executed overhead kick in the area which Merralls saved at the second attempt.
Hullbridge were more composed going forward and extended their lead through a 25-yard cracker from forward Howard Wright on 37 minutes. The visitors made it three just minutes later as Frankis powered in good header from Aaron Hunwicks’ free-kick, for his second of the match.
Half-Time: Tower Hamlets 0 – 3 Hullbridge Sports
After the break, Hullbridge started well though Hamlets to their credit, stuck at their task in defence with ‘keeper making saves from winger Charlie Little and Wright.
Late on, the game petered out a little as the visitors defended stoutly. Hamlets kept going though were slightly hesitant going forward, perhaps the effects of two matches in three days starting to tell (though Hullbridge also played on Saturday).
Hullbridge held on well for a deserved victory, and rise to 8th place in the table. Hamlets stay 20th after three defeats on-the-spin.
