On a slightly soggy though decent pitch at Leslie Field, Burnham Ramblers took on Tower Hamlets in a bottom-of-the-table clash in the ESL.
The match started as it carried on, quite open as both sides hit the woodwork early-doors. Burnham took the lead with just ten minutes gone, as Charlee Hughes calmly slotted past the Hamlets’ keeper into the left corner.
Burnham kept on the pressure, having the majority of the chances before Hughes once again popped up in front of goal, blasting home from close-range to double the home side’s advantage.
Hamlets had the odd opportunity to reduce their arrears though their defensive frailties showed once again just before the break. Hughes timing his run well, receiving a good through-ball, rounding the ‘keeper before slotting home assuredly for a first-half hat-trick.
Half-Time: Burnham Ramblers 3 – 0 Tower Hamlets
Burnham had chances to extend their lead after the break, though Hamlets did improve and got a consolation late on through Leoman Medrado’s long-range cracker. Burnham finished the match down to ten men as Bobby Bird got his marching orders late on for two bookable offences. Even so, Burnham deservedly won this encounter, as they were slicker in attack and more defensively sound. Hughes could’ve made it four though hit the post moments before the final whistle.
As a result, Burnham are off the foot of the ESL table, Haringey & Waltham are bottom on goal difference. Hamlets’ indifferent form continues.
Full-Time: Burnham Ramblers 3 – 1 Tower Hamlets
Hughes 10, 25, 41 Medrado 74’
This was my first visit to Leslie Field and would like to give an honourable mention to the club for the nice atmosphere and friendliness of the staff. Thank you.
